GAA Discussion / Re: Are we mad?

nobody has mentioned that the tickets cost double for the championship
maybe that's why good crowds come out
championship games are overpriced

Stadium announcement tomorrow?

The simplest solutions are always the best.

Smaller pre season competitions (less games) played on round robin, with no finals.
Less league games (more divisions) with promotion and relegation of top/bottom teams (league final not needed)
Play off knockout provincial competitions within 6 weeks.
Open draw for proper All Ireland championship, provincial winners seeded into draw (first round bye), other teams seeded into 1st round or 2nd round games based on league and provincial record over 2 years.
No back doors. You get two chances to win a title.

Preseason should be about getting players up to fitness levels for the league
Less league games in the poor weather
Provincial Games will have set weekends allowing for club games in April/May/mid June
Much easier to plan All Ireland competition in June/July/August, allowing for club games in breaks between games.

Ballagh, the town that lumps it's lot into Co Roscommon for elections, County Council grants, Irish Sports Council funding, Leader funding, Clar funding, BMW funding, Community Games competitions and much much more

but in Mayo for GAA
you tell me where the chip on the shoulder lies

The structures in Westmeath are nothing to shout about.

The senor and minor setups have improved hugely in the last two years as they have excellent management in place. The minors have a good crop of players with one or two standout players. The senior squad have had a few quality players coming through each year for the past few years who have been developed.

If I understand correctly Athlone is considered Westmeath even if half of it is in Roscommon. What is stopping them extending the boundary and just taking over the whole shop ?

All of Athlone is in Westmeath.
The boundary more or less goes along the bypass.
Roscommon Council ceded the west bank to Westmeath back in the late 1800s
However, unlike the other end of the county when it comes to GAA, we're not bitter about things like that.

Who is head of GAA in RTE? Or is there one?

More people attend GAA county games at this time of year than Rugby or Soccer the whole year around, yet both get their own midweek discussion programmes.

RTE are actually failing their licence payers in providing a service.

I wish they'd just hand all coverage over to TG4 who do such an excellent job

Congrats to pcd. Incredible achievement for a small school like pcd with a catchment of just 2 GAA clubs - Dingle and Gaeltacht against a school with a panel comprised from 14 clubs

They'd have 3 clubs nearby actually. Dingle, An Ghaeltacht agus Lispole. Not sure if any players from Lispole on current team though.
And you're right. 4 Munster colleges in a row and now going for 2nd Hogan cup back to back..it's a fairly ridiculous achievement for a small school.

I assume given they face a Roscommon team in the final we'll have a 100 page thread on here? Beforehand everything will be set against the Ross team, the venue, the ref etc..then afterwards we will hear how Ross were unlucky and were actually the better team.. ;D
I'll start the ball rolling so
Only 380 pupils in Roscommon CBS
First Hogan Cup final.

A teacher with a muppet as a spokesman, only in Mayo.

As you well know there are a lot of things only in Mayo. Ballaghdereen being one of those things!  ;)

Are there 2 Ballagh? Only one I'm aware of is Ballaghadereen Co Roscommon

There is a Ballagh in Limerick alright. But Ballaghdereen is in Mayo!
Different maps in schools down in Mayo so
