Di Maria has been poor at all levels since the 2014 WC. He looked good against Nigeria for about ten mins and then was just a mess. The suggestion is that with Messi and mascherano effectively running the team, dybala doesn't get in as he encroaches too much on Messi's space. He's a second striker or a false nine, not a creative midfielder or a winger. Higuaín is an excellent goalscorer but goes missing in big games too often for it to be clichéd to suggest he bottles it. Has missed huge cheers to win Argentina the WC and a Copa America. Their biggest mistake (ignoring politics and personality clashes) has been leaving Icardi behind.

Banega will play every minute from now on. Long overdue creativity. Biglia isn't great but he should play ahead of mascherano for the legs if nothing else. The defence is just appalling.

What a moment to go after him.

You mean yesterday?

The terrible defence getting fully exposed here.

Messi's legs are gone. France running them off the park.

How the FÙCK did Ronnie Whelan and Ger Canning (and the ref) see nothing wrong in Pogba being being bear hugged and wrestled to the floor there?

What in the name of Christ was that?

Uruguay-Portugal should be even more enjoyably violent.

Scoreline flattered Argentina in the extreme, bar a worldie and a fluke they'd have been beaten out the gate. All the best performances were from French players.

So bar what happened in the match it flattered them? Argentina had plenty of chances to win this one. Mbappe dragged France through nearly single-handedly.

Bollocks. Pogba and Matuidi were both excellent. Kanté was very good too. Mbappe was the star but his second goal was put on a platter for him after a lovely team move. He was anything but on his own.

Argentina just have no defence (with the exception maybe of Tagliofico) and a poor midfield. Absolutely ludicrous from Mercado and Otamendi to keep losing the head after the Agüero goal.

Mbappe won the penalty and scored two. The other was scored on the volley by a defender, not Pogba and certainly not Kante. The bollocks is saying Mbappe wasn't very clearly the difference between the two sides.

Good thing is Ronaldo or Suarez will be gone after this game. Such a pair of diving playactors.
