Final is in Istanbul this year.  I don't think I would like to see O'Neill against Celtic to be honest, he was fantastic at Celtic and he deserves nothing but good memories from his time there.  If he had to face them again it would certainly be difficult for him, the man can do no wrong in my eyes, just so happy he is in charge of the Villa.

Yeah villa a great club mind them winning euro cup some achievement when only champions played in it. would love too see villa break into top four oneill can attract the big names if there was champs league for them to play in. A shrewd man. How is Petrov playing for villa

Doogie Browser

Petrov had a slow start, but I think he has done a very effective job for Villa.  Playing very differently than he did for Celtic where Lennon allowed him to push forward, at Villa he seems to be the holding player allowing Barry to attack.  But Sidwell did very well tonight and O'Neill may have some big decisions to make re Petrov or Sidwell later on.
I honestly think 4th spot is up for grabs this year as Arsenal seem to have an identity crisis at present.

Petrov started very poor with celtic as well but when oneill took over he took off.Only thing i think he lacks half a yard of pace for attacking in prem prob more suited to job alligned for him by oneill at that level.

i agree doogie re the choice that needs to be made around stan and sidwell.  i was quite impressed by sidwell last night. he puts in a shocking amount of work. just what you need on a big european away night. at the minute i think he deserves a run...

there is no doubt he was bought to replace Barry going to liverpool, but that doesnt mean he isnt worthy of a place anyway.

winsamsoon

But then again he is ginger. Maybe David Moyles should buy him and Barry Robson and they can all look like willy from the simpsons.
I never forget a face but in your case I will make an exception.

lurganblue

they'd all need to ship off to another club though cos sweet chuck wouldnt do in the premiership

Its time I posted on here....another Villain!
Great result last night even if we did have our backs to the wall for most of the second half.
I think 4th spot is a realistic target this year and a good run in the Uefa cup will help us to no end too.
It's good to have so many games, long may it last!

Welcome aboard!  You are right, Villa have been on telly more this season already than the past 2/3 put together I would say!  Who said Channel 5 is only for porn and perving at Natasha Kaplinsky!

i think they get the team that finishes second in the group

i've recorded match of the day2 on sky plus to watch yesterday's game. cant believe it. thats two games lost in a row in the premiership and against teams we really have to be beating if there is any hope of us doing well this year.

Doogie Browser

You are right lurganblue, yesterdays result was hard to stomach, it was a vital match to win as we play Arsenal and Utd in our next 2 games, three points yesterday would have given us a cushion ahead of the teams below us.

youbetterbelieveit

Very disappointed with yesterdays result, definitely games we need to be winning if we want to break into top 4, and with two big games coming up, it really means we need to get 2 or 3 pts from those games. The amount of games already seems to be taking its toll.

lurganblue

yeah the amount of games does seem to be having an effect but this is something we have to be able to deal with if we want to be successful.  hopefully we'll have a lot more midweek games to come  ;D

Back to back loses for the villians, not impressed!! Easy chances being missed by Milner and Gabby not helping our chances:):) Plus Sidwell losing the plot!! Good news is we play Man Utd and Arsenal in next two games:L:Llol
