did Woodward bow to the public clamour and appoint OGS too early? If he had stuck to his guns and waited to the end of the season would they have appointed him? I think not given the end to the season. but hope springs eternal.

Not a chance! Complete madness to give him the job in the first place. He got a bit of a bounce that all new managers get and a very lucky win against PSG.
His managerial record shows nothing that would suggest he's up to the job of managing a club like United. He'll be gone by March next season and the merry go round will continue.
If anyone at United had any sense they would call an end to it now and go after Poch.

Could be Halloween if there's a shaky start. Anyway, do Utd have to play in the qualifying round for the Europa League next season?

Depends on the FA cup final. A Watford win means they would need to pre-qualify, I think.

Watford win would leave United starting in July something ridiculous - they are due to play a friendly in the USA that same day.

Could be the final twist of the knife.

Should go for Chris Hughton would do a better job than Ole. He must be the most badly treated manager in EPL history.

That should see United out of the cup.  Can concentrate on getting 6th in the league then

Or 4th  ;D

6th  :D

Poch with a stronger panel and players playing to their potential only finished the league season 5 points ahead of United and United have been a total shambles August to December and for the last two months.

Best thing Poch has done is leading Spurs to the CL final and the wins v Man City,Ajax on route to that final was every bit as lucky as United's win v PSG.

I think there's every chance Ole will be asked to resign very soon and get a big thank you and a big  payoff, and it'll be dressed up like it is all his idea. 'He's had a chance to think it through and he's decided it's not for him' type language.

Poch would be super for MU, IMO. Comparing the average transfer fee per player, it's amazing what he's done. And it's not like it's all plain sailing to manage Spurs. Dele is supposed to be a right arse, but he keeps him on straight and narrow. And there's been a lot of upset that the players get paid miles less than the rest of the big 6. To keep them all together, playing for each other, and playing for him has been a great achievement. They've been top 4 all season, and I'm sure it would have been more comfortable but for the understandable distraction of their CL run.

If Poch does leave in the summer, IMO, there's no chance of Spurs finishing higher than 6 next season. If he stays they'll be top 4 again.

A squad he put together for relative peanuts and don't you think he deserves the credit for getting them playing to their potential??
He's also made them a regular fixture in the top 4.
Put it this way, if both of they were in the market for a job now, Poch would have his pick of clubs and Ole would be going back to Norway to manage the pub team he came from.

Lloris has made more mistakes this season than in all previous years combined.

Trippier has had a horrible season.
Rose only got his place back properly after Xmas.
Toby was out of favour for a while.
Jan has become injury prone.

Winks has missed half the season with injuries.
Dier has missed two thirds of the season with injuries
Wanyama has missed two thirds of the season with injuries.

Alli has missed half the season with injuries.
Kane has missed half the season with injuries.
Son missed a quarter of the season with internationals.

The only Spurs players who consistently played to form this season were Sissoko, Son and Vertonghen. Eriksen was solid all season without being spectacular.

There's more improvement to come from Spurs's squad than Man Utd's.

United's squad has only performed for about 2 months this season, loads of injuries and players such as DeGea totally under performing. Any decent improvement next season should get them up to about 74 -76 points IMO.

5 season of Poch with Spurs now. First two seasons finished with 64 and 70 points 3rd season was overachieving one and they have regressed in the league the last two seasons with less points and 20 plus points off the champions. I don't see much improvement with Spurs next season they will probably draw more games and not lose 13 matches again but will likely require marquee signing or two to get close to a title challenge.

United need to buy well and the type of players the need to buy are not the galactico type signing (bar Van Persie I can't think of one of those that has worked) but young hungry players on their way to the top. That's what Liverpool have been outstanding at for quite a while. The huge concern is that the scouting system is not up to identifying these targets. Hopefully I will be proved wrong on that - to be fair there are only so many players and surely United would be aware of them.

Think some on here need to cool their jets at times. Things are bad but some of the comments I read about Valencia above are just bullshit. He was a good player in good teams and contributed quite well as a wide player and then a full back to wuccessful teams winning things. To suggest otherwise betrays little knowledge of the game. Don't let the twilight of a players career colour how you perceive the whole career.

Alli has played 25 league games, Kane 28 and Son 31.  Alli tends to be a one trick pony in that if he doesn't get the goals through arriving late into the box, he doesn't do anything.  Kane hasn't looked the same since he came back from injury last March.  Pochettino seems like a very good manager but he also gets a lot of credit for the players brought to Spurs but alot of that was down to Paul Mitchell who brought in Alli, Alderweireld and Trippier.  Add in the fact that Kane and Vertonghen were already then its obvious that the perception of him being some kind of transfer genius are not entirely true.

You got to remember OGS arrived at the right time and had a favourable run of fixtures against low level opposition which in all fairness Jose was making a hames of similar games, but with the dead cat bounce and some players actually bothering to put some effort in they were rewarded with some good victories.
First sign of a good team at Old Trafford was PSG and United got schooled.

Return leg with Pogba in the stands United give it a real go and whilst fortuitous with the penalty exposed PSG's soft underbelly. Credit where it's due.

The OGS fanclub of ex teammates in the media were in overdrive and it was on this wave of sentiment that Woodward was able to fill his next big appointment on the cheap and save a few more $ for the Glazers.

She is right.

In the same way Moyes was appointed, because I think United's 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices didn't want the job, it's the same with Ole. Appointing an inexperienced man on the back of a 10 game runs madness. But makes me think, Poch and others were likely approached and didn't want it. So let's save face and pretend Ole was the only one we ever wanted. Same happened with Moyes, like he was the chosen one, and look how that panned out

Did they get him on the cheap?

thought I read somewhere he was 2nd or 3rd highest paid manager in PL - £7.5 a year or something?
