I suppose it's the only venue they could have bar the UAE.

The competition has taken place in England & Wales and final always planned for the Oval only problem is that one of the teams was supposed to be England who were beaten unexpectedly in the semi final in Bristol by Pakistan.  Morgan blamed it on the wicket claiming that it did not provide home advantage because it was a worn wicket which allowed Pakistan to have equal conditions.  Should not have been a surprise to him as the path to the final for England was already mapped out and the rules of the competition are that only a used wicket can be taken for the semi final.

Inspired Pakistan thrash India by 180 runs.

Bloody hell there was a remarkable lack of coverage for this tournament in "cricket-mad Australia".  Yep, the sweep-it-under-the-carpet; they-might-not-notice attitude of the meeja strikes again.  God they're shit, sore losers.

That's great news for them. I'd be worried about them making inroads into hurling now.

They'll have good crack getting 5 days without rain to play a test match in this country.

Future Eoin Morgans will have to come up with a decent excuse.

Ireland and Afghanistan now join the rota of tests and will have the opportunity to play the 5 day game.

It will also stymie any players leaving to join England.  They can do so at present because Ireland cannot play test cricket.

However, Ireland will have to learn how to play the 5 day game as they are currently 50 over and 20 over specialists, different skills and tactics are required.  Expect them to take on some English first class sides at 4 day cricket.

As already side good luck with getting 5 dry days in this country.

They will get a lot more money now. This is big news following the recent recognition of the inter-pros as being first class cricket.

There's an article in the IT today which explores the effects of the new status

Funding doubled  at least over an 8 year period, raising it from €18 million to €36 million.

In terms of being a test nation making cricket more attractive to the public, it is now accepted that T20 is the direction to go to bring in the public to watch cricket.  Rarely, test cricket is an attractive sport for spectators and tends to draw the purists or most people don't bother to turn up on Day 5 or the game is over after three days.

I've wondered could Croker fit in a cricket pitch. If not we need a purposie built Lords or Trent Bridge style ground, not easy. Malahide & Stormont need the temporary stands.
