Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on November 01, 2023, 12:23:40 PMThis discussion has been going round in circles for years. Clones getting the funding keeps coming up for some reason as if that was ever likely. In fairness it would be worth it just to see the DUP outrage and general losing their shit. It would be on an epic proportion if GB money was going to a foreign land ;D

clones is a horrendous stadium and an awful location for a provincial ground.
gaa should have pumped the monies into  armagh and built it up or even newry to say 33k
casement given the mess we are in , within North is genuinely a waste of monies
everything seems broken and the pushing for say 80million oftaxpayers monies just doesnt seem right it it comes to the detriment of essential services

Quote from: shawshank on October 23, 2023, 04:24:18 PMAs Aaron Kernan picks up his 18th senior championship medal, it further confirms how crap the senior clubs in Armagh are that they annually role over. What is it Cross are doing the rest of you are not apart from living rent free in your heads.
having a catchment area that is second to none
there is simply too may clubs in armagh
lurgan has 4 teams
camlough/ bessbrook  2 teams and am not counting corrinshego)
cross has a committed area with no infiltration from soccer
fair play though to both clanns in lurgan they are investing in youth which will get rewards in the future

if what I have heard is true then yeah, the Clonduff boys will feel that was justification
Jeez if what was said is true!!! then this has no place in football and it's no wonder certain clonduff boys went nuclear
Really despicable if true

Was out for a run this morning with a mate from another club
They have spent 80k on managers over past 5 years and nothing in infrastructure under age etc
To win nothing
My club has spent the same on infrastructure and no paid managers
We have a new  underage field ,walkway etc
We won nothing either
The amount flowing out of clubs in search of success is bonkers

I'm not sure how oblivious some are to the financial realities of the situation, but it is beyond mental to suggest that the FAI could compete with top tier English, Italian or Spanish clubs for the services of successful, up-and-coming managers. And it's even more absurd to think such managers would want to sidetrack their careers with a stint in charge of a mid-to-lower tier international team.

Someone like Carsley is the best we can hope for, and it's very doubtful that he'd even be interested. He's not getting the senior England job - they'll go big on that when they ditch Southgate. But a Championship club will take a punt on him eventually, which would probably be a better career move than the Ireland job.

The alternatives to Kenny are depressing - auld fellas so far behind the times that the club scene has forgotten about them. Or another LOI graduate like Damien Duff.
would take the england u21 manager

Car crash interview. It's has went down badly, especially the money stuff. Like really what other reason is there to go to the Camel league? You'd have more respect for him if he just came out and told the truth "the money is too good to turndown". No player is joining for 1 or 2 years so they can win the Jamal Khashoggi memorial cup.
totally agree
he spectularly messsed up
the bit about Klopp  or club not wanting him was poor given that he wanted a commitment that he was being played.

Ulster rugger ballers to play in Breffni Park 7th October.

Kingspan probably being the main thing here, sponsors of both.

A fair drive for a lot of the BT9 brigade, a change of scenery heading to Cavan.

Plus politically convenient to as no doubt somebody would have stirred the pot so to speak if it had been in a pitch in the 6 counties.
same day as the scotland game so i cant see too many at it

General discussion / Re: 20 years of the PSNI
September 04, 2023, 03:31:40 PM
Quote from: Applesisapples on September 01, 2023, 12:13:55 PM
Am I alone as a moderate nationalist, being concerned at the current direction in policing. I have good friends who are catholic PSNI officers. They allude to a culture within the force that is still in some part sectarian and anti-catholic. I have always felt that it would take time and an effort on all sides to move this on. However current events and the fact that only 26% of officers are NI born catholics is dismaying. In my view the fault here in part lies within our own community, we still are lukewarm in our acceptance of police and they have not become embedded in the community in the way that the Gardai are. The church, GAA and both main nationalist parties need to be doing more to address this. but the PSNI need to look at themselves as well. On joining the police a catholic officer is invariably advised to leave his community and live in a safe (unionist usually) area. They give up all that makes us Irish, the parish, family and the GAA. That is a barrier to recruiting Catholics. Police stations are still festooned with poppies and commemorations to the RUC. Whilst these need to have a space in fairness, it should not be in your face. The Federation in its badge and utterances is unionist in inclination, in spite of Liam Kelly, who like the turncoat has too much to prove. The nationalist community needs to encourage our young people to join, we need to make an effort to have them live in the community and be less qualified in our support. Mistakes were made at the Sean Graham's commemoration but there was a crowd there at a time when I had to wave a the hearse of family members as it passed my street because we couldn't attend the funeral and from what I saw they were not socially distant. Given that the disciplinary action was rescinded, you would wonder why the court case was taken.
I want the PSNI to succeed, there are many fine officers from both tradition doing a good job, the majority in fact. But policing is still too politicised and we are as guilty as the unionists. Time for change on all sides.
the issue though is that all nationalists aspire towards a 32 county entity so de facto its actually hard to sell joining the psni because its part of the maintenace of the status quo . ( and the money is crap)
