Should we gaa folks take a leaf out off the rugby supporters book and maintain silence or should we let out the crescendo of noise and shout up (down) etc, i for one think like paddy heaney and say do not change a thing.
Keeps 'er' straight

What are you talking about? What did Heaney say?

The correct thing to do is to sing the song or remain silent until it is over.

Sing it.

It always suprises me the amount of people who dont know the words. Why people feel the urge to roar before it is finished is beyond me.

That's been a major beef for donkey's years! Everyone in Croke Park would claim to be great gaels, would die for Ireland etc (the usual bollox) but hardly any of them know the words of their national anthem. It's a disgrace and embarrassing - say what you like about the English but at least they put their heart and soul into singing their national anthem. The rugby fans wiped our eye the other week by singing it properly!

So was there no GAA fans at that Rugby match that sang the Anthem. You have to realize that at GAA games there are a lot of young children who probably have not learned the words yet. There are a lot of people who are ignorant and just come for drink and a day out but this section of the crowd are in the minority. You say the rugby fans wiped our eye??? Watch the footage of the team and it is clear that approx 7 or 8 of them only sang the anthem. So do these players not care then????? And who cares about the English, you are talking about words, sure the English anthem repeats itself over and over again. It would therefore be easy to learn even for a moron. Listen to it the next time they sing it. It reminds me of the louts in the bar singing after about 7 or 8 pints. you know the billy connolly version.
I never forget a face but in your case I will make an exception.

It's not just about the English you tube - the French, Germans etc. all get behind the national anthem. The players are a different matter - most of them are getting psyched up for the match and either don't sing the anthem or go through the motions.

I wonder will this version be handed out on Saturday to help our Ulster-Scots friends........

Bring back God Save Ireland...

"High upon the gallows tree
Swung the noble-hearted Three,
By the vengeful tyrant stricken in their bloom. But they met him face to face
With the courage of their race,
And they went with souls undaunted to their doom ..."

You obviously don't learn Donegal Irish in Armagh!

I thought the National Anthem was

Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer
Our Country's call
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

From the mighty Glens of Antrim
From the rugged hills of Galway
From the walls of Limerick
And Dublin Bay
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

Hearts of steel
And heads unbowing
Vowing never to be broken
We will fight, until
We can fight no more
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

Pisses me right off how people can't stay quiet till the Anthem is over. The Dubs are the worst culprits and really in fairness any of the Southern counties are bad.Have to say the Ulster teams are much more respectfull
