Didnt want to start a thread, but can find anything about the English team.....
Although the media are screaming out for the 100 caps I reckon Capello has a point here - no sentiments

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3096200,00.html
Beckham left out of squad

The England manager telephoned the midfielder and broke the news to Beckham - who is just one appearance short of becoming the fifth man to earn 100 England caps - but assured him he could be part of his plans for the future.

It is understood that Capello told the 32-year-old he wanted his players to be match-fit, and that naming Beckham in his squad to face Switzerland next week would be unfair on those who have been playing in matches week-in, week-out.

Beckham is very disappointed by the news, especially as he has been training with Arsenal during his holiday - Major League Soccer's close season - to get fit for Capello's first game in charge.

He has however been encouraged by his talk with Capello about the future.

In the phonecall, Capello told Beckham he was still part of his plans and that there was no reason why he will not pick him again as long as he is fit enough and playing well enough for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

It is also understood that Capello had no issue with Beckham going to Brazil and Africa this week.

Capello has a history of dropping the former Manchester United star, jettisoning him from the Real Madrid set-up after he signed for the Galaxy before, like Steve McClaren, recalling him as the season reached fever pitch.

Pilot 'breakdown' diverts flight

Air Canada says a crew member was taken ill
An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing in Ireland after a pilot apparently suffered a mental breakdown.
A passenger said the pilot was carried from the plane shouting and swearing, saying he wanted to talk "to God".

The flight from Toronto to Heathrow landed at Shannon airport after its crew declared a medical emergency. Passengers flew on to London later.

Air Canada has confirmed that a crew member was unwell, but did not confirm he was suffering mental problems.

He basically said he wanted to talk to God

Passenger

"At no time were the safety of the passengers or crew in question," said an Air Canada spokesman.

"The flight was met by medical personnel and the individual is now in care."

Eight-hour delay

One of the passengers, Sean Finucane, said he saw the co-pilot being carried into the cabin in restraints.

"He was very, very distraught. He was yelling loudly at times," he told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

"He was swearing and asking for God and very distressed. He basically said he wanted to talk to God."

Passengers were put up in hotels while another crew was found. They eventually arrived in London eight hours late.

General discussion / Paddywagon Attacked Again
January 24, 2008, 10:57:56 AM
A TOURIST bus decorated with leprechauns has been badly damaged in a petrol-bomb attack in south Belfast.

Dozens of mainly Australian and New Zealand tourists were unable to visit the Giant's Causeway yesterday because another coach could not be found. Police last night said they were pursuing all lines of inquiry following the attack at Fitzwilliam Street on Tuesday night.

It is believed a window on the bus was broken and petrol poured in before being set alight. Coaches from 'Paddywagon' tours were fire-bombed twice in Belfast in 2000.

A neighbour alerted the manager of a Fitzwilliam Street hostel where the bus was parked.

Stephen McPhellamy of Paddywagon, said he would find it "saddening" if it proved to be a sectarian attack.

"Half of our work-force in Northern Ireland are from a unionist background," he said. Paddywagon, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, describes itself as "a backpacker's friend and an aid to tourism in Ireland - nothing more".

Rogue trader to cost SocGen $7bn

Despite the loss, the bank expect to report a net profit, made in 2007
French bank Societe Generale has announced losses of 6.9bn euros ($10.2bn, £5.2bn), blamed on a fraud by its trader and the credit crunch.
Societe Generale said it uncovered a fraud of 4.9bn euros by a Paris-based trader, who has been suspended.

It also announced new write downs of 2.05bn euros related to the sub-prime mortgage crisis in the US

The bank, one of France's largest, will need to seek 5.5bn euros in new capital to make good the losses.

'Secret trade'

"I am sorry but I have a hard time buying the fact that a trader was able to set up a 'secret trade' of 4.9 billion without anybody finding out," said Ion-Marc Valhi at Amas Bank.

The rogue trade took apparently took place last weekend, on 19 January.

The sheer scale of the loss is overpowering

Frederic Hamm, fund manager at Agilis Gestion, believes that the fraud "impacts the reputation of the bank".

Chief executive Daniel Bouton offered his resignation but it was rejected by the board, the bank said.

Richard Fuld, the chairman of Lehman Brothers, told BBC News in Davos that "nothing stuns me, nothing really surprises me these days."

Shares in the bank were suspended on Thursday.

General discussion / Omagh verdict expected today

Judge to give Omagh bomb verdict

Twenty-nine people died in Omagh on 15 August 1998
The judge in the trial of the man accused of involvement in the Omagh bombing will deliver his verdict later.
Sean Hoey, 38, from Molly Road in Jonesborough, denies a total of 56 charges, including the murders of 29 people killed in Omagh in August 1998.

During the trial, the prosecution alleged that DNA evidence linked him to the Omagh bombing and other explosions.

The defence argued that the evidence was unreliable and did not provide the basis for a conviction.

It was also revealed in court that two police witnesses had lied about how they had gathered some of the forensic evidence.

Much of the prosecution case was based on forensic evidence, particularly a type of DNA evidence, called low copy number DNA - a new and sensitive form of testing.

The defence have challenged low copy number DNA and prosecution experts themselves have differed in their evidence as to how reliable they believe it to be.

The judge, Mr Justice Weir, will give his verdict on Thursday afternoon, 10 months after the end of one of the largest murder trials in UK legal history.

When the trial ended he acknowledged he had a great deal to think about and a great deal of material to look at again.

The families of many of those who died in Omagh on 15 August 1998 are expected to travel to Belfast Crown Court to hear the verdict. Others will watch a video link set up in Omagh College.

In addition to the 29 counts of murder, Sean Hoey is also charged with five counts of conspiracy to murder, four counts of conspiracy to cause an explosion, six counts of causing an explosion, and 12 counts of possession of explosive devices.

The oldest victim in the Omagh bomb was 66 and the youngest just 18-months-old.

There was evidence from hundreds of witnesses during the 56 day trial and there were more than 500 items of evidence.

Charges were brought against Sean Hoey in 2005, after a review of the forensic and scientific evidence.

A new police inquiry began in May 2002 and followed criticism by the then Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan, of the original investigation by the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

GAA Discussion / Tracking Device
November 20, 2007, 10:51:48 AM
I see on the news last night Eugene Young was talking about the tracking system
I know we spoke about it before on a soccer thread & it is regularly used during Champions League games but does anyone have any idea what sort of distance inter-county footballers cover during a game?
Soccer players are around 8-10k metres I think
This device tracks what area of the pitch you are in during the game & the amount of metres you cover

2 interesting stories

SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS is indulging his favourite hobby with his massive wages at Chelsea — PORN.
The little fella of Stamford Bridge has chipped £20,000 into bongo channel Babe Central and is helping out with the wage bill for the "talent".
Wee Shaun's Abramovich-style cash clout means the other channels are struggling to book the best girls because SWP can afford to pay more.

A bit like Chelsea in a Premier League of porn.

Shaun likes nowt more than taking his seat in the grandstand to watch his investment in action in a studio in Kent.
And it has caused an almighty stir among other after-the-missus-has-gone-to-bed channels. A seedy insider said: "Shaun's money has forced up the wages for the girls and Babe Central's rivals are far from happy. It's exactly like Chelsea in the transfer market.

"He's been dropping in at Babe Central with his pals and ogling the girls.
"The flats above have been complaining about Wright-Phillips and his chums making so much noise while they've been watching the babes.
"The girls are writhing around in front of the cameras, talking to viewers, while Wright-Phillips and his pals drink champagne."

Meanwhile in Italy

An Italian football team has scored a controversial winner - by signing a sponsorship deal with an escort agency.
Outrage over escort agencyTrentino 1921 have received 10,000 euros (about £7,000) in the agreement which sees the name of the escort agency, Casa Bianca or White House, posted on the club's official website.

By clicking on to the logo - a white rose - surfers are taken to the Casa Bianca website, which warns it contains material of a sexual nature and users must be more than 18 years old.
The agency is based over the Austrian border in Innsbruck and describes itself as the "home of pleasure", adding that Casa Bianca is a "sensuous place to get everything you want".

There may have been a thread about this some time ago, not sure.
I have never seen so many of the b4stards about the house, now Im not talking Arachnaphobia here, but there is a lot more than normal.
These arent your normal small ones either, these are big big brown fcukers & can run quicker than Ben Johnson on steroids
Is there anything I can do to get rid of then?
Is there likely to be a nest in the house (they are upstairs & downstairs) or are they coming in from outside?

GAA Discussion / Reduction In Training Sessions?
July 23, 2007, 11:39:13 AM
Taken from Hoganstand

Central Council has looked at proposals which aim to reduce the effect that intercounty action has on club fixtures, with proposals on the table to reduce the number of training sessions as well as getting rid of junior and intermediate intercounty competitions.

The ideas were put before Central Council by Player Welfare Officer Padraig Duffy who is aiming to see club players get more games during the summer months instead of the current trend of games being postponed while county teams are involved in their respective championships.

One proposal is to limit the number of training sessions that inter-county teams are allowed, which would let players have a higher involvement with their clubs.

Another proposal is to end the current intermediate and junior inter-county competitions.

Central Council discussed the ideas which will now go before the Central Competitions Control Committee before counties are asked for their opinions.

IMO, it would be virtually impossible to police this, especially if a county are in the latter stages of the championship. Nowadays, most clubs know that if the county go well they wont see the county players till they go out.
Anyone any ideas on how they would have any chance of implementing this?
