The Glazers must be the worst owners in European soccer. Man U have the biggest income in England and are consistently mediocre.

Captain Obvious

Eight changes to the starting team today is a clear statement that Mourinho has given up on a top four finish and has put all of his focus on the Europa league.

Consistently since Fergie left?

Plenty was won under the Glazers from the mid 00s to 2013 the club are rebuilding now after the retirement of their greatest ever manager.

Mourinho was brought in last summer to improve the rebuilding process e.g champions league qualification and to win trophies. At the moment Man United can still achieve that this season.

Good for you.  Had Rooney squared the ball for an unmarked Mata instead of trying to beat one on the EPLs best keepers for 15 years the outcome might have been different.   Still think Arsenal would have come back tho.   Resting Valencia was the the biggest sign of not taking the game that seriously.

Hererra will get roasted by Jose, and deservedly so, for turning and then ducking instead of taking the brunt of Xhaka's shot.   What's the point in being their if you're going to duck??

Annoyed the shite outta me watching that today. Arsenal were there for the taking if United made any attempt to play but they went in with a minimalist approach and when Arsenal got a lucky break it was over. Rooney's total ineptitude is comical except it probably cost that game. First goal as always going to win and that chance he ballsed up was glaring (with Mata free in the centre). Everton would be mad to take him, he's like a guy in a pub that won a competition to play a premier league game.

On a positive note Tuanzebe was excellent and would make you wonder why he hasn't got more chances given, ahem, United have such a "small squad".

A draw and a win in the Europa gets United into CL next season but being truthful, anywhere outside of the top 2 is not acceptable.

gallsman

The Glazers aren't even close to the worst owners in Europe ffs.

Well that's top 4 gone now. Big gamble to focus everything on the EL and play the duds like Rooney and Smalling today. Spurs and Liverpool results this weekend had left the league route very open again.

Even if Utd had won today , spurs would have been 9 points ahead with a vastly superior goal difference.

Lads I'm an Arsenal fan and grew up watching proper games between the two clubs. Back to early 90s McClair Winterburn, Vieria Keane, Pizzagate, Keown Ruud. All today done has shown how far both teams have fallen. And Blackburn into third tier of football. All my perceptions of 90s football shattered.

I know they wouldn't have caught Spurs, but they play them next. Had Spurs won on Friday night they would still be chasing the title when playing United next weekend. That was a large factor in the perception that United had a difficult league run in, and would be best concentrating on the EL. Instead United will play a Spurs side with nothing on the line next Sunday - the same Spurs side that didn't give a flying f**k and let an already relegated Newcastle beat them 5-1 after they fell out of the title race last season.

That match, one against a nothing to play for Southampton, one against beyond shite Crystal Palace, and one against the worst Arsenal side in 20+ years was United's run in before today. Not anywhere near as bad as it looked a month or two ago. 12 points from that would've guaranteed CL football. 10 points might well have been enough. All on the EL now though, huge gamble.

Got no issue at all with the team he picked yesterday, the chance to win a trophy and qualify for the CL is of far more importance than finishing 4th. I'm sure Rashford, Pogba, Valencia & Bailly would have all if United would have finished the job in Vigo and I'd have expected United to win if they had. First goal was all important yesterday and we had a great chance to get it with Rooney but he fluffed it.

The criticism of Mourinho is well over the top in the media, you'd think it was him who wasted all the money since Fergie retired; He brought in 4 very good players although Mkhitaryan has been poor in the last month. Tuanzebe was excellent yesterday, for a lad making his debut been played out of position and against one of the best players in the league he looked well at ease.

We've got no divine right to challenge for the league every season as the media seem to think. We're not the only club spending money, City & Arsenal have spent as much as we have done in the last 12 months and will both probably end the season trophyless. The football hasn't been that bad either and I think we'll see a proper Mourinho team with more additions this summer.

MM who do you think are likely to see the exit door, or is it more a case of bulking up the squad to be able to maintain a challenge for the title next year?
