Jota being injured a huge loss. The amount of minutes the front 3 are clocking up is bound to be taking its toll which may explain the lack of bite in the attack.

They definitely need a rest. Play the second string against Villa and leave Mane, Salah etc out of the squad altogether.

When did Liverpool last not play a 2nd string side for a FA Cup 3rd tie?

Utd have to play 3 times before the game at Anfield, Liverpool once...  Play a strongish team in the cup, it might be just the tonic ya need?
Yeah would probably agree there.
I would bring Williams in for Trent to try and give him a bit of a kick up the arse.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

I actually think the loss of VVD, Gomez and Matip is having a adverse effect on the attack as much as the defense.
With the first choice guys available , Liverpool play a really high line which condenses the pitch alot more and allows them to be really aggressive in their own press and win the ball back higher up the pitch. A massive amount of Liverpool chances come from this and puts opposition under constant pressure.
The guys filling in are either not as good/not as quick or not in their natural position so the tendency is to drop off alot more. That 10/15 yards can make a big difference.
Trent going through a  dodgy patch and Robertson having to play every minute doesn't help either.  :-\

Meanwhile, Villa have a COVID outbreak.

Talking about fielding the U-23s.

Not a hope should Villa be given any leeway after last year.

Villa haven't asked for any leeway. Came out straight away and said they'll field a team.

Exactly. Villa are doing what was advised for project restart. I have absolutely no idea how Newcastle and Fulham got to call their games off.

I expect a pumping but I'm also interested to see how some of the talked up youngsters get on.

I would imagine Liverpool will have a team full of youngsters also.
Well that and a mixture of senior squad players who never get minutes

Way stronger than expected. Five first choice regulars in there. Maybe he feels they need a confidence boost ahead of the United game.

They better win now!

Not sure I would be playing Fabinho. I would argue he is our most important player at the minute!

An Watcher

Sometimes fellas need game time or maybe a bit more game time in a proper match. They could also have been trying out things. It may be a meaningless match but it doesn't mean don't play your big players

Hound

The pace of United's attack means I think we can't afford to play either of the reserve centre halves v the mancs. So it'll be Hendo and Fab for me.
Albeit that means Harry Maguire is bound to be very dangerous from set pieces.

Two assists from Shaq, so I'd be delighted to see him get the nod in midfield alongside Thiago and Gini.
