GAA Discussion / Re: Sigerson

AFAIK it's a strait knockout until the last fours teams left on the weekend.

Although eligibility for the Sigerson may depend on positions in the Ryan Cup. But don't quote me on that!

As I thought, feck all (was asking about the team, not individuals thereof).

Now, for slow learners:

Tyrone: Ulster Champs, AI exit at the Quarter Final stage, beaten once.
Monaghan: Ulster Championship finalists, exit at the QF stage, beaten twice.
Derry: Beaten by Monaghan in 2nd round of Ulster, exit at QF stage, beaten twice.

Good research there... can't fault it. Having said that it means absoulte nothing, the All Stars have nothing to do with the amount of matches won and lost, nor the amount of titles won.

It concerns players and their performances. Tyrone performed well below their usual standard throughout the year, Monaghan and Derry performed above their standard with more players excelling in their positions than their Tyrone counterparts. Again... there is no rule that states the Captain of the Ulster winning team deserves an all star, there were obviosuly 3 more players who played consistently better throughout the year than Dooher. Therefore he is not entitled to an Allstar. Actually Brian Dooher probably knows himself he wasn't a consistent enough performer to get one. Why all the sour grapes?

And Derry have won, this season? (Still waiting)

Oh sorry I forgot they're called the Irish News Ulster ALlstars (Oh but only if you've won something)

WTF has winning anything got to do with it. Allstars are about being a consistently good player over the course of a championship season i.e. Muldoon, not being a good player in one match i.e. Dooher.

It's not rocket science chap!

QuotePatsy O Hagan from Moortown, Co Tyrone is hilarious. Fomer Bard of Armagh. Seen him have a wee talk at a couple of Dinner Dances... Fantastic!

Saw him a couple of weeks at a party my friend was having before he got married. Patsy is a seasoned pro, he seems to know everyone and has a story for everyone whether it be old women or young kids and the amount of 'blue' he gets away with is unbelievable and everyone was lappin' it up. Great craic altogether!

Quoteone swallow does not make a summer, he was tripe against fermanagh, monaghan and meath

Hardly fair considering the man was carrying an injury hence the performances apart from Donegal.  But that performance alone should have earned him an All Star.  As FOSB stated, he did Captain his County to an Ulster Title and his Man Of The Match display was against the NFL Champs.  Sure Enda scored a few points against Antrim, he should get the All Star instead!

Dickhead! AllStars are judged on a Championship SEASON... Dooher played well in 1 game out of Tyrone's 4... Muldoon played well in 4 out of 6 games. It's not rocket Science!

Would have liked to see Carney get a run out. Surely we could have gotten away with only one of Murphy and Wallace on the subs, I would've liked to have seen Carney get a run out in this kind of game as I think it's one where his physicality would have caused problems. Oh well I guess we won't have the chance to see him at all this World Cup. Disappointing.

Tony Scullion was a late developer and never played minor football for Derry. He was asked into the U-21 team in his last year. The side went on to win the U-21 1983 Ulster Championship and went on to be runners up to Mayo in the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship after a replay.

Scullion was also a keen hurler for both Ballinascreen and Derry. He played in five Derry Senior Hurling Championship finals and was man of the match in the 1989 final, despite never winning a final. He played for the Derry hurling team between 1983 and 1991.

He was part of the Derry side which were runners up to Down in the 1988 All-Ireland B final.

AFAIK his facts are pretty much correct. I just don't like the way he goes about his arguments. Getting that kid in COlumbine to go to K Mart with him was trash journalism. I know he was trying to highlight a point but he didn't need to exploit one of the victims to do it.

As for 'how did Bush get in'. If you take a look at the interviews in Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 you will see the mentality of middle America. Bible bashing gun slinging dumbasses whose heads are up their holes!

I have to say that having watched Bowling for Columbine CHarlton Heston has become one of the people I hate the most in the world... would never have believed someone who seems so polished and articulate usually could be such a stupid arrogant bastard!

Not too sure about anywhere else but there is a pre school in Draperstown that is totally Irish. Naiscoil na Speirini. I think they are a great idea and I would definitely put my kids through Irish Medium education as I think it helps broaden children's minds. A lot of good work is being done in this field in St. Mary's in Belfast too and I think that you will see a lot more of these schools sprout up around the place!

Any form of shaving below the neck unless for sport or an operation is purely for women

Holy god talk about your massive over reactions! Save your judgements for the big games lads. As has been proven pver the years we can't cope with being favourites! We won the match with a bonus point. At the end of the day the France and Argentina games need to be treated as knockout games... we need to win both of them to have any chance. We all know that the team have much in reserve for these games so I don't think there's too much to criticise.

I have to laugh at people calling for O'Sullivan's  head at this stage. This past season Ireland have played their best rugby in both the Autumn Internationals and the 6Nations. I don't see how O'Sullivan can be blamed for lack of player concentration in both the French and Italian games. As he said himself in the documentary "When France got the last try to snatch the 6 nations... were we any better or worse a team than we had been 2 hours previous?"

We've lost a couple of crappy warm up games and had one bad performance in the World Cup. Everything about the world cup is geared towards peaking at the right time... I think we will still do it!
