Hard luck to Carlow died with their boots on and to think the grey hair men in suits at congress will likely deprive counties like Carlow having championship games like this against Div one opposition in the years ahead.
Is there a Motion before Congress?
Does every one at Congress wear a suit?
Just remember Carlow bet 3 Div 4 teams to get there. Probably never happen again that they'll get such fortunate draws.
They need to get themselves out of Div 4 now if they want to develop further.
Dare I suggest that Monaghan are gone well past their sell by date?

Eventually that motion will be brought in and past just the like U21 football championship was eventually scrapped even though the majority of players, supporters wanted to keep it.

Most wear suits and have grey hair in congress and all will eventually nod their heads to what Paraic Duffy wants.

Doesn't matter who Carlow played in between. They played two Div one teams this summer and gave a good account of themselves in both games.

Time will tell about Monaghan, right now they remain established Div one team and are on course for another All Ireland quarter final.

30mins played Carlow giving a good account of themselves against Div one opposition again. Fair play to them! its so much better holding their own in this type of game than some "B" championship game with few at it or interested in it.

Paddy Neilan from what i seen of him is a inconsistent ref, for example good in the Div one final this April while bad in todays game but at least the best team won that game today. Other refs are bad in every game yet keep getting high profile games.

If we're not good enough for Senior.......
We are this year though 8)
So "just winning the AI" is just a nuisance thing?
Sure why have competition at all? Why keep scores? Why does the team who scores most go on to another round? Why have cups and medals?

The underdog stories like Down,Roscommon winning against the odds v Monaghan,Galway this summer or Tipp reaching AI semi final last year is what is makes this competition a bit special. Look at any cup competitions across the world, the top teams more often or not will win them but its the underdog stories that will last a lifetime e.g non or lower league team in England causing a few upsets in the FA Cup.

Exactly and the memories Tipp players and supporters got from winning last years All Ireland quarter final is something they will never forget while in comparison winning a B competition will be quickly forgotten.

Carlow captain Darragh Foley says a second tier championship does not appeal to him.

A championship for lower-ranked counties has been mooted again this year but Foley feels it would be of no benefit to the Barrowsiders, whom face Monaghan at home this weekend in round three of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

"It wouldn't appeal to me. If you're playing in a 'B' championship you're seen as a lesser player," Foley told the Irish Independent.

"We'd never get a chance in a 'B' championship like we're getting on Saturday - playing a Division 1 team in a Round 3 qualifier at home before Sky TV cameras. That's where you want to be."

Fair play to him talking sense there.

I'd say he speaks for most players from so called weaker counties there. A b championship will never work in football. It was tried a few years ago and failed miserably. A couple of wins and a decent draw can lead any well trained team to still be playing championship football in mid July. To see Carlow as one of the last 14 teams left is amazing for me. A home game v Monaghan live on tv, in front of a massive Carlow crowd on Saturday evening. This beats any stupid B championship competition, where the final is played before 50 uninterested people.

sooner some realize that there is more to All Ireland championship than just winning the All Ireland .....the better
Moysider Farrandeelin Creteen Lar etc please note!!!

And you who won't be that bothered if Roscommon are placed into Intermediate/B section competition!!

Great post and the sooner some realize that there is more to All Ireland championship than just winning the All Ireland as you have highlighted here the better but unfortunately i feel some stupid B championship will be brought in by the men in suits at congress whom won't listen to what the majority of players and supporters want.

Just realised Galway's last score was after 53 minutes from Comer when we got back to within 3 points. Galway scored 7 points in the first 11 minutes of the 2nd half and only 2 more in the remaining 32 minutes of the game with a wind, christ thats depressing and doesn't reflect well on the management. Thats the second game in a row where we've faded very very badly.

Was the wind that big of a factor? seemed to be more of a swirling wind and not as bad as the Galway Mayo game. Roscommon scored more in the 2nd half 1-8 with 4 wides than they did in the 1st half 1-7 and 9 wides.

TBH C O Connor will be lucky if he avoids suspension looking at that.

Should be routine win for Mayo. Clare would beat Cork if they played them they are in a bad place right now and so poorly coached.

Delighted for Roscommon and their supporters on here.
Have always found them a very knowledgeable and fair set of supporters.

McStay played a blnder.

Roscommon are one of the bottom 6 when it comes to playing numbers.
They showed that the lack of numbers argument is rubbish.
Great to see.

Well done to them but I think you're overegging the pudding a bit there.

Roscommon would probably have the third highest playing numbers in Connacht and all they had to was beat a Division 4 side to get to the final in the first place. Great result for them yesterday but it probably said as much about where Galway are at than Roscommon are.
Roscommon have been playing Div one football the last two years and Galway haven't played Div one football since 2011 and it showed in that Connacht final.

Roscommon playing numbers would be similar to Sligos. At least yesterday they proved they weren't "desperate" as you tried to claim before the game but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt there as you were only looking for a cheap rise and have little or no knowledge of Roscommon football.

Superb stuff from the Rossies this afternoon. Showed just a glimpse of the huge potential and talent that is within this Roscommon group. Galway weren't let play their normal game they were out fought and out thought all over the field today and the Galway weakness of their goalkeeper and full back line was exploited and but for the 9 Roscommon wides that contest would have been over at Half time.

The after match celebrations showed what a provincial title means to a county like Roscommon and it would be a terrible shame if the provincials championships we scrapped.

Derry peaked themselves out after 60 minutes last week and today Clare were maxed out by 30 minutes. Yet it was still was only 13 v 14 on points scored and the two goals in as many minutes clearly the telling difference. Mayo lucky they didn't draw Donegal or Meath away as i think both of those sides who are better than Clare would have led by far more than two points at half time.

Cork or Roscommon next in neutral venue (Can't play Galway or Croke park with the U2 concerts) Back to Ennis for Cork or back to Salthill for Roscommon?
