I guarantee Omagh CBS didnt spend money on expensive Bonding sessions to other countries the year they won the Hogan Cup.

TYP was on this thread,im sure he can confirm that.

Wasn't there a Football team that came north on a tour in preparation for Senior Colleges football- staying over for the weekend.  I think TYP reported that they played Omagh, I remember thinking that was the first time I'd heard of a football team going to those levels.

THis has been going on for years TYP. I know St. Pat's used o head away to Bundoran for the weekend to play friendly games against Jarlath's and another team most years and at least 5/6 years before I was playing MacRory football (and that was 8 years ago).

I went to a rugby school (big one in Leinster) and we went on bonding trips around Ireland in preperation for Schools Cup. Since I have left, the school have gone to S. Africa but all of the money is raised by the individual themselves, the school contribute zip.

since the mid 90s st pats dungannon have been taking their macrory teams south for bonding weekends and matches with local schools and in return those schools have come north. with regards to the cost, I would imagine this does not come out of the school budget but from very genorous sponsors.
If you have nothing nice to type, type it anyway but be prepared for the on slaught

Yes I Would

Not that long ago there used to be killing match for the mars bars and crisps in the back of team bus after games.
Not a mention of even a bowl of soup or a sandwich. How times have changed!!

Schools football is big business....
Weekends away going for quite a while - we went to tuam to play a few schools round there.
Then when I got to third yr at college, one of my lecturers was John Kremer, the sports psych interviewed in the irish news there recently, and he was telling me he was at my old school a few times since to meet the macrory boys. This would have been 3/4 yrs ago, when it was really only the county teams starting to look into this level of preparation.

Madness - Dungannon academy won the Hogan cup and spent a few thousand mostly in transport and a bit of food !

No-one has a problem investing in Schools, or spending money on Travelling arrangements,Specialist training,Training/Match Gear, or Hotels the night before big games etc etc

i Dont think anyone has a problem with the specialist cryotherapy treatment or anything similar either as it aids recovery.

The Bonding Trip to Sunderland however would have cost a good precentage of that 60K, That is not a necessity for prepara

Dont rugby school teams go on tours every few yrs, as in the US and places. What way are those funded - bound to cost more than 60k over the yr.
