GAA Discussion / R.I.P. Farrandeelin
February 05, 2023, 07:10:11 PM
R.I.P. Farrandeelin.  Passed away today, only a young man with a very young family.  He would have been on here posting this evening had things been different. A gentleman and great servant of Knockmore GAA here in his beloved Co. Mayo.

I'd expect Sligo to win it out.  A bit like Offaly and their under 20's, they have put a very strong team together.  Would have won the Connacht Final by a lot more if it had been a decent day.

Would have to be fellow clubman Padraig 'The Bomber' Brogan, some of his performances for the club were just unreal.  At county level, I would say, Dermot Early and also the most stylish of them all, the great, Matt Connor.

How many chances are some of these Mayo players going to get?  3 of those forwards that started and were substituted during the course of the game today have been given 3 or 4 games each to prove themselves over the course of this league.  Bar a 3 minute cameo by one of them at the end of the Donegal game, all 3 have been poor.  They aren't even close to the standard unfortunately.  Not sure what Horan is looking at, if he's looking at anything at all.  I fully expect him to play all 3 again in Galway and again all 3 will be substituted.

Mayo / Re: Mayo Club Football.

A bit of a stretch to say it's a neutral venue to play Castlebar Mitchell's in McHale Park, Castlebar.  They have even more influence than the Dubs do in Croke Park.  Every cent from the match programmes sold in McHale Park, even at county games goes to the Mitchell's.  Every cup of tea or bar of chocolate sold all year in the ground goes to the Mitchell's.   Every car park that charges you money around the ground goes to the Mitchell's.  While other clubs are really struggling financially, Mayo GAA have created their own version of Dublin on the club scene.  It's beyond a joke.

I'm involved with our local club that play in D1 of the Under 14 ladies league here in Mayo.  Unfortunately we just missed out on qualifying for Feile this year so was wondering if there was any club out there that are hosting an under 14 blitz as we would love to take part.

Would be nice to bring the ladies on a bit of a trip to reward them for the effort that they are putting in.  Willing to travel anywhere in the country😁😁😁

GAA Discussion / Re: U14 Feile
June 26, 2017, 06:07:48 PM
The D1 Feile as won by New York had 16 teams. 8 local teams and 8 invited teams such as Portlaoise, Castlebar, New York etc. The invited teams probably won their local Feile. As only 8 counties were invited into D1, then the other counties not included had teams invited to participate in D2, D3.....D10 etc. Next year Mayo reps might be in D2 or D3.  There are a number of regional Feiles for clubs that missed out or were not invited. It's not an all-Ireland title, but in a child's head the main Feile is Number 1, even if it doesn't have all of the best teams competing.

That's not how the reffing courses down here would say.  I couldn't believe it myself, nor could anyone else and it was brought up on more than 1 occasion for clarification.  I presume it's to do with health and safety.  Obviously it's interpretation but that's from a course only 3/4 weeks back.

We take it all back Joe...  :P

According to the tutor, who has reffed All-Ireland's and the other 3 refs that were in attendance it only applies when you are brought to the ground in a tackle and and upon hitting the ground it has to be got rid of immediately and can thus be thrown at that moment in time.  It was even more shocking to find out that you could score from it too.  There were 20 at least in the room and all were in shock.   I know in ladies GAA you can play the ball on the ground to get it away from you but this was certainly a 1st for me.  If I'm wrong, and I'm certainly no expert, then so are a lot of imminent refs who will be reffing in the League next weekend.
