Archie Mitchell

Just watched the Inside Sport special about Seve Ballesteros on BBC 1 there. What a man. Hopefully his health continues to improve and is back playing golf again soon. No one deserves it more than him. Absolute gentleman.

The Watcher Pat

Yeh lot of respect for him...Has a big heart and doesn't seem to let anything bring him down.

A great outlook in life.
There is no I in team, but if you look close enough you can find ME

Former #1 World Ranked golfer David Duval in jeopardy of not making the tour next year. He used an exemption (1yr for money earned lifetime) to play in 2009 and needs to make the top 125 player list (he is 125th as of this morning) or its back to Q-school.

See McIlroy nearly pulled off a great win today. Back to the top of the order of merit though

Yeah, was watching that live, think it was the 17th that he 3 putted and that did it for him. After Shanghai this week he's some man to make a charge on the last day - certainly not dull watching him play golf.

Orior

Okay, so the Race to Dubai is the old Order of Merit, except that there is a play of for the top 60, and only a handful can actually win it.

Hmmmm.

The people in the top 60 have won more money that anyone else. So they reward them by giving them even more money. No doubt they deserve it, but the socialist in me feels uncomfortable with such huge prizes going to so few.

Errm, it is a professional sport where the winners ger rewarded, how is it supposed to operate, the top players share their earnings with everyone else? ::)

Orior

Who is funding the prizes? I hope I'm not.

Maybe I've been hanging around the GAA too long.

Pretty sure that most of the prize money comes through corporate sponsorship.

The Victorian government weighed in with half the apperance fee for Tiger Woods to play in Melbourne this weekend (1.5 million of tax payers money), they reckon the local economy raked in about 25 million as a result and this was their justification.

I think most Western governments would be precluded from stumping up prize money for competitions but as Dubai is not exactly as a 'Western' government I'm not sure if that is the case for next weeks end of season showcase. The main sponsors of next weekends gig are the same mob that sponsor Rory McIlroy, Jumeriah or something they're called.
