Highlights, with the penalty incident from two new angles..
https://youtu.be/cYwvd00Cwj4

8 steps or so before defender takes him out, no penalty right call and Gough deserves credit for that. Poster calling him dishonest need their head examined. Reffing Gaelic football nearly an impossible task with the tackle in our game and all the slabbering and pushing that goes on.

Some call by the ref to be fair. You don't see too many calling those. All involved want consistency. After 5/10 mins you should know how the ref is going to call tackles / steps etc and react accordingly. The problem is refs change their tune at times during games. A 4/5 man tackle (!) is allowed during a play, next time its a free. Very frustrating. But I agree Spuds, reffing football is a tough tough job

Breheny leading the charge against Donegal's Motion

https://m.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/martin-breheny-super-8s-farce-makes-congress-clr-while-major-issues-ignored-37833926.html

He's not. He's saying it should be discussed at CC or CCCC but can't be because it's in the GAA laws so therefore has to be discussed at Congress..his words re the motion are:

"The Donegal argument is that playing two of three games in Croke Park is an advantage for Dublin, a case that's difficult to argue against."

Indeed.
Them lazy Laythrum hoors. They could have won 4 or 5 All Ireland's if they'd just rolled up their sleeves. ::)

So we agree. There was never some halcyon day when 32 counties were competitive. Some counties are better at football than others. Some smaller counties are better than other smaller counties because they work harder and are better organised. Handicapping Dublin won't make Leitrim any better.

You see Paul, it's this kind of delusion from a lot of Dubs that get's on people's goats. What most would like is for CP to cut down on the bottomless money pit re Dublin and attempt to level the playing field in as much as it can be leveled, what with all the other advantages Dublin enjoy.

Watched a documentary called Free Solo about the rock climber Alex Honnold and his attempt o scale El Capitan without the use of ropes. Unbelievable and well worth a watch.

Great show. Shreds the nerves at times !

Once again it's all about the big bad dubs blah, blah, blah. Have you ever put together a medium or long term policy plan for your club/county and applied for funding???

Anyone can cut and paste figures and post abuse using the anonymity on the internet. Why not do something constructive with your time for your club/county instead of constantly criticising people in Dublin for doing that
Multiple counties and clubs have tried. You must think every county and club outside of Dublin is inept? Most counties struggle to break even every season. In fact, a very successful season can put a county in the red due to extended team costs.

Can you accept that the AI football championship was far more open before the Dublin funding brought through so many top class players?

And in particular the Leinster championship.
8 in a row? Doesn't it get boring?
Even Louth got to the final in 2010 and should have won it.
In the 2000s almost every county in Leinster got to a final, bar Carlow, Kilkenny and Wicklow.
Most counties had an aspiration to win it.
Not anymore.

I accept Dublin had a plan, implemented it and are now reaping the awards. I look at other counties for example Cork and Galway. One focused on building a stadium they didn't need and couldn't do that right and the other got audited for extremely questionable financial behaviour I won't expand on for legal reasons.

But sure give Louth & Leitrim loads of money because clearly that's the only reason Dublin are successful.

It's typical Irish begrudgery. Instead of emulating successful people, teams companies etc we look on jealously at their success and hope for their failure so we rejoice in it.
[/b]

I'm sorry man, but that's not right. Most on here (except for those Trump loving hallions on the US thread) are GAA folk. Most are exasperated by what's playing out before their eyes. Their beloved championship has become farcicle (how the other  Leinster counties must feel watching the Leinster Championship draw, only they will know) . Many lash out, but its definitely not begrudgery. Dublin have many many advantages, of that there's no doubt, but the financial bit can and has to be addressed. Watching Dublin win again this year will be absolutely zero /anti  craic.

That has the makings of a good final.
I hope it lives up to its billing. Two good enjoyable semi finals today and the two underdogs gave a good account of themselves which was pleasing to see.

Definitely, enjoyed both matches today, fair play to all 4 teams. Gaoth Dobhair I feel didn't reach their full potential today. Couldn't get a hold in midfield and didn't get enough breaking ball, maybe underutilised big KC but that was maybe part of their decision making in the final 3rd. Put in a serious shift and represented Ulster very well. They can be very proud of their achievements this season.

As regards the final, it'll be very close. I've seen both Crokes and Corofin against Slaughtneil in the flesh. Corofin's performance in that final was the best I've seen from a club side. Crokes have serious footballers in all sectors. Should be some battle

Very enjoyable game to watch.

Good contest. Hope Gaoth Dobhair can hang in there and take their chances. Is there a player in the country (Inc Tyrone) who goes to ground as easy and often as Lundy?

I've mentioned that before. Ardmore, Sean Dolans, Doire Colmcille and Ogra Colmcille will take hammerings from the teams coming down and could have the opposite effect than desired. You would worry for the future of one or two of those clubs senior teams.
I've mentioned it before but I really think the restructuring of the league was a bad idea (although it had good intentions). It wouldn't surprise me if Ardmore followed Ogra in the fairly recent future and that would be a shame. I see Ogra are still going to try to field in Junior Championship. What will their players do for the rest of the season though? Will some look to play elsewhere? It really is very sad.

Would agree, intentions are good, but there's a few City clubs that are going to get it really tight this year and you just hope that they retain players as the season progresses.
Is this the city with 110,000 of a population, mainly "nationalist"?

Heard Ogra won't be playing in the league this coming season. Sad to hear, some clubs getting it very tight at the minute.

On the issue of players missing - I know this was probably covered before - but of last years three county champions (Coleraine, Banagher and Limavady) are there two players on the county panel? Maybe others are injured just now.
Liam McGoldrick and Mooney were to be away travelling. Other Coleraine players declined invites. Brian Og McGilligan from Banagher, not sure if any others are involved? Maybe Hagan? Limavady keeper is the only one who should be near the county panel.

L McGoldrick will play some part this year, Mooney and Co McGoldrick away. C Mullan I'm not sure about. Hagan is either travelling or working, cannot remember from an earlier Derry Post article. Re Limavady, Brown with the AFL, Hartin still involved. Though I'd maybe have given R King a rattle up in Owenbeg to see how he'd progress in that environment over a period of time.

Apologies for gremlins hiccup in the earlier post! First of all well done to Derry for winning their first three games in this year's league. One can say with some justification mission so far accomplished.

However, with the exception of the last ten minutes yesterday, they really failed to penetrate the Waterford defence, albeit they had thirteen men behind the ball.It was only when Derry had two men sent off that they really took the game to Waterford and put in an impressive scoring stint.

One worrying aspect of all the performances this year is  that at least three of Derry's better performers have picked up yellow cards in the last three games that they have played. This is simply unacceptable as there is very often a thin line between victory and defeat. Those who were sent off were lucky that the other thirteen really played out of their skins in those vital last minutes. Hopefully the individual players and management will take the possible serious consequences of their hasty actions on board.

It was good to see Brendan Rogers back in action.Presumably Sean Francis Quinn and Terence O'Brien  and maybe Benny Heron will be available for consideration in the next game against Wicklow.

The line in bold re yesterday's game would apply more to the ref than the players !

Division 4 football reffed by a Division 4 ref! Crazy stuff at times in Dungarvan. We finish with 13 men when none of the tackles were worthy of a ticking, never mind a yellow. And how McAtamney was sent off for 1 yellow was a bit mad. There was talk that he must have received a yellow as a sub during a row in the Waterford dug out 5 mins before he was introduced. No one seen anything other than Rocks and a Waterford man getting yellow.

Anyway, another 2 points gained and move on. Waterford very defensive and cynical. Game played in windy conditions so hard to gauge again. I must say Postie"s kickouts were excellent all day. BR was superb at 3, surprised he played. Rocks, McGill v good, McNeill excellent.
