Never saw Dermot Earley play - by all accounts a mighty player. I struggled with the no.3 jersey for ages l, never thought of Quinn and it's a good shout, tried to think of a Leitrim man to put in and I couldn't. I'd be happy to drop Forde for Quinn

Think it's a bit harsh to label Kevin Walshe and Liam as donkeys in fairness!!

You just picked my team Stephenite!!  Quinn for Ford and Tomas Mannion for Enon Gavin are the only two changes I would make to your selection

Gay Sheerin - Roscommon
Kenneth Mortimer - Mayo
Michael Quinn - Leitrim
Tomas Mannion - Galway
Deccie Meehan - Galway
James Nallen - Mayo
Sean Og De Paor - Galway
Kevin Walshe - Galway
Liam McHale - Mayo
Eammon O'Hara - Sligo
Ciaran McDonald - Mayo
Michael Donnellan - Galway
Ja Fallon - Galway
Padraig Joyce - Galway
Tony McManus - Roscommon

Walsh and McHale are well ahead of Willie Joe as orthodox midfielders go.  Yeah, sure Willie could field a ball but jaysus his distribution was brutal at times.  Didn't see enough of Earley to pick hime here.

I think that's more or less the team I would pick. never saw Dermot Earley is his pomp and personally I would rate Walsh and McHale above Willie Joe.

An alternative 15, just to be awkward.

Gabriel Irwin

Harry Keegan
Pat Lindsay
Dermot Flanagan

Danny Murray
John Maughan
John Finn

Willie Joe Padden
Mickey Quinn

Kevin O'Neill
Dermot Earley
Noel Durkin

Conor Mortimer
Val Daly
Joe McGrath

Christ this is tough but its got to be done.

Ivan Heffernan.
Harry Keegan. [Alright he conceded 2 - 5 one day in Championship but he was a legend]
Seamas Quinn.
Ken Mortimer.
Eamonn O Hara. [ first time i ever say him play was at 5 v Mayo - league match in Ballina I think]
Tomás Mannion.
Sean Óg De Paor
Liam McHale.
Kevin Walshe.
Dermot Earley. [ played on wing in his last ever game v Mayo in Connacht final 85 in Dr. Hyde Park -  if memory serves me correctly]
Padraig Joyce.
Mickie Kearins.
Ciarán McDonald.
Willie MCGee. [ Actually saw him play Railway Cup v Leinster circa 1975]
Tony McManus.

I know. No Willie Joe or Michael Donnellan.
Mayo - 5
Galway - 4
Roscommon - 3
Sligo - 2
Leitrim - 1

Great thread Stephenite. I like your team. I did see Early play many times and he was a legend for the Rossies but also very passionite about the Railway Cup. Muppet you're correct his last match was v yourselves in a one sided Connacht Final in 85 at wing forward when he was 37 years of age and 20 years playing intercounty senior football. I would put him in at midfield in place of McHale. Kevin Walsh has to be there by virtue of his 3 allstars. Enon Gavin was amazing when he won his allstar at 19 years of age but Harry Keegan excelled in that position when Ross won 4 Connacht titles in a row and contested the 1980 AIF. Seamus Quinn for Leitrim was an incredible full back. I'd have him instead of Forde. Val Daly was one of the best footballers never to win an AI so I would slot him in at the corner with Ja moving to 11 and Mac to the side and omitting the great O'Hara.

Conor Mort                  Seamus Quinn        Harry Keegan

Sean OG                      James Nallen         Deccie Meehan

                        Kevin Walshe            Dermot Early

Michael Donnellan           Ja Fallon          Ciaran Mac

Val Daly                       Padraig Joyce     Tony Mac

No team posted yet for Munster, but maybe it would be too easy.  All you would have to do is pick 14 from Kerry plus Declan Browne.

The thoughts of Conoreen marking Stephen McDonald is just too much for me.
I'd put Kenneth in there !
