Here we go again. If we have a problem with a rule, the answer is not to condemn the application of the rule. The answer is to try to have the rule changed.

I think the point is that this club are being hammered for what several clubs also do (and are not being hammered for).  As you say, the rule is daft.

That other people get away with it is hardly a defence.
This club could have proposed a change of rule at any time through the congress. Instead they knowingly chose to break it, so they shouldn't be whining.

that it is done in Croke Park is not a bad defence but the the suits are too busy whuring the Association to SKY sports

+1.
Mind you the GAA's history of "flexible rules" usually means the "units" feel they can get around anything.

Congress voted to open Croke Park, it did not vote to open clubs in Longford, as you well know.

Think the GAA in general needs an overhaul on rules. Some of the wishy washy shite on nationalism especially needs to be revised

Stad

Who'd be easier to understand, a Longford farmer or Jamie Carragher?

Isn't not opening club grounds to all sports the exact opposite of 'Grab All'?

Billy is not offering a defense, neither was the club in the article. The club have already admitted the infraction. I assume they are taking umbrage over the imposition of such a large fine and have the right to argue an appeal.
Is the argument, that loads of clubs deviate from the rental rules in order to raise finance, a mitigation factor for reducing the fine?  I don't know..

It's of no monetary gain to either of those parties for a club in Longford to have their doors closed. Grab All just doesn't fit I nthis context at all. You can't have it both ways.
