What's wrong with that? Sure, you want us to take in anyone who turns up from 900 to 9,000 miles away!

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 23, 2024, 06:46:47 PMR Dougan,J Doherty,M Warnock are 3 of the Glen men. Straight of the top of my head, [Yes 2 ain't playing for Glen at the minute, abroad, and Gallagher never gave J Doherty a chance.) P Cassidy abroad, P McNeil left, no game time, four lot others left, with no game time either plus a few cut, with long term injuries. We cant hit a 45 on a regular basis but R Connery[ Castledawson] and Kielt [ Kilrea Youngest one) in club football can. As noted, Derry are in their 8th Minor final in 10yrs. Derry along with Tyrone should be the Ulster counties with the greatest depth.Derry going well but can't hold a indepth panel. Armagh won nothing, but can?

Quote from: imtommygunn on May 23, 2024, 01:54:17 PMwhat'd he say about enda mcnulty? Paul Grimley, David Gough and Cavanagh way out of line with. I haven't really listened much to him since. Doesn't seem to understand that RTE were absolutely bang on to get rid of him.

He's been relentlessly mockinging him for years seemingly for no other reason than because Enda writes self-help books, which are something Joe dislikes. He's written numerous columns down the years attacking him and mocking him for it, and he had a podcast a few months back obstensibly about his views on self-help books but which was essentially just an episode dedicated to Enda bashing. It included a bit where he told a story of how he and Enda were once both speaking at a school prizegiving in Newry and the general gist of the whole story was: 'When Enda's speech was over, I was introduced as the main speaker and I got up and belittled Enda and oh the place exploded and everyone thought I was hilarious'.

Add Eoin Bradley and Marty Morrissey to the list

Quote from: JoG2 on December 12, 2023, 11:29:09 PMI suppose they'll be various speed wobbles along the way, part and parcel of committees.. From the outside looking in, it's not so bad (performance wise)

The problem is that there was alot of work done behind the scenes when McKeever got the V Chair post. He put together a football committee (they were side-lined as they were holding certain people to account)that shaped the high performance aspect of the county teams. That was designed to bring continuity to our county teams regardless of who was in charge, the managers might change but the elite performance aspects would remain. That has been dismantled and you have Harte (who i hope continues to do well) coming in with his own backroom team. In other words we are going back to how our county teams were run 6 yrs ago and beyond. The long term effect of this approach will come home to roast in 8/10 yrs time if it is not remedied.

I think, on the back of Cahair O'Kanes article in the I.N. about the amount of injuries we are experiencing. I'll recyle this post I made on 13th December.

Loughlin's not an long standing groin condition that finally needed surgery?
Doherty's quad hasn't been right since the crafty 'tackle' by Maher in Salthill during the league game? Not training related.
Murphy's injury occur at training?
McEvoy's hamstring.. In a big panel of players this will happen. We've been very lucky with injuries the last couple of seasons.
If it's a change of S&C and people are pointing fingers, why is the number not greater from 14 odd games and countless tough training sessions?
I'd say if you went through every panel in Ireland since the league started this year we'd pretty average re the amount of injuries

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on May 22, 2024, 02:28:08 PMIf Armagh replicate their performance from the first 55 mins of the Ulster Final I think they could beat Derry with a bit to spare, especially if Derry's injuries dont clear up.

A lot of ifs and buts though.

Think they play for 77+ mins in games these days

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 20, 2024, 09:44:38 PMI been to a number of games, think they competive enough. There not alot of goalkeeping options in the county. Not alot of possible stand out future county men. Alot of the very good players are not big. There is a very good lad playing No.11 for Castledawson whos he? Wouldn't be the biggest!

I don't get to many club games these days but I'd have though there were some good players coming through from those county minor/u20 sides? We already have a 2nd keeper in Scullion at the senior county level so we're covered there for a while.
Championship is usually competitive enough, 3 teams realistic contenders and 1 or 2 others can always can always win on a given day.

Not that competitive the last couple of years. Glen have cake walked it (although I think you mean apart from them it's fairly competitive)

The result of the last 3 finals.

2021 - Glen 1-13 0-7 Slaughtneil
2022 - Glen 1-12 0-7 Slaughtneil
2023 - Glen 1-13 0-7 Magherafelt

Incredible consistency from Glen when you even look at those 3 score lines. Keeping the opposition to 0-7 in 3 finals in a row.

They had 6 men in the Derry squad at the weekend (Ciaran McFaul, Conor Glass, Emmett Bradley, Ethan Doherty, Eunan Convery, Danny McDermott)
Conleith Mcguckin left the panel a few weeks ago & Johnny McGuckain just finishing up with the u20's, he really looks the part too.

Their team is frightening, and then you start to add in other household names Dougan, Warnock, Carville, Tallon, Doherty, Flanagan etc

Serious squad. With the age profile of Slaughtneil, only Magherafelt rally come close re squad strength

For the past 7-10 years, I would be inclined to come on here to see opinions on games V read the newspapers after a game. Not any more.
A lot of well minded bloggers unfortunately have done likewise.

I guess that's aimed at me, as the original comment was. Am not sure what I said that was so offensive as to warrant calling in the moderators. In fact what I said I believe to be true... but time will tell and I may have to eat my words.. or not.
Been yapping for years about how much he hates Harte. Went through a new name there but still the same sh!te.

Dose.
I've said nothing personal about Harte so is hardly 'hate'. Seems to be a very touchy subject to suggest he wont lead Derry to the All Ireland. I wasn't on here previous but you tell yourself that...

😅 you're bit precious about Mickey Harte being criticised. I've commented on other topics. Still not sure what I've said that is so offensive..

I think I only took umbrage to someone hinting the stamping incident was down to Harte and Devlin, not you but you may have jumped on (again, no kissing).. Which is school ground stuff

Quote from: cornerback on May 20, 2024, 10:37:16 AMThere was a incident in the Derry Galway game were a Galway player in possession was "ushered" over the sideline by a couple of Derry players. McQullian pointed his flag in favour of the Galway player and indicated a pushing motion with this hands.  I didn't hear if the referee blew his whistle at this point but is it not the linesmans job to indicate which way the line ball is to go and he should not be calling the freekick??

The linesman will advise the ref on off the ball incidents, he will do the line and he may even stand in behind a free and help the umpire on a wide or a point call.. The ref alone decides, he can take advise, but it will be his call

It's his call yes, but the wording in the rule book has changed. Historically the linesman would have called lined decisions and off the ball stuff, but can now alert the ref to any incident the ref may not have seen on or off the ball
