Derry / Re: Derry Club Football & Hurling
October 22, 2023, 08:05:23 PM
Very sorry to hear about the death of Liam Peoples, Claudy.  A great GAA man, played goals for Derry in All Ireland Minor football final of 1981 (I think, or 1980?).  Another member of that team who has died too young.

Joe's opinion will soon be completely discarded, if not already.  The hyperbole barely masks his increasing anxiety to be taken seriously.  Ask Dungiven people - his Dungiven-ness has been decaying for quite a while now and in recent years/interviews has been very negative about his own native area and upbringing.  Joe may end up Dungiven-less.  "A good Harte these days is hard to find."  ;D

The war is really complicated. It could continue for a long time. Everyone is dug on and the West has no interest in peace. Giving in to Putin is no solution either.
The people suffer and the refugees keep coming. Some of them will probably never go home.
;D
The west has no interest as Ukraine is the wests pawn is disrupting Russias place in the world.

I   never believed a word about  this Ukraine thing from  the start.  Those who like to start  wars,  need a bogey man.  It's  Putin's turn to be  that  bogeyman

As you say, Ukraine (and zelensky)  are just  pawns in a bigger game of chess .  That means it's the Ukrainian people  who are suffering  but   The warmongers  don't give two  fiddlers about that

So just let Putin do as he pleases  ;D

The rest  of the world have sat back  and allowed Israel to do what  they like to the Palestinians for decades. I don't see any calls  from nato Britain or the US  to  put a stop to that
Very true.

Awful comment in the context.
Awful because it's true?

There are people who don't know what happened to their families. While it didn't happen in my family I would be pretty sure if it happened in mine I would want to at the very minimum know what happened to them. You look at the likes of Lisa Dorrian and some of the disappeared etc sure they barely even know where their family end up. People need some form of closure. It doesn't need to be convictions or money.

The head of the police resigned mainly due to incompetence.
Agree 100% that nobody should have to live carrying that with them. The perpetrators of these types of crimes, where there is no body and no closure, are no better than Brady and Hindley.
Awful because it was awful and shows a total lack of respect for victims. Says more about your skewed perception of justice. Quite British really.

When the head of the police has to resign because of something related to the troubles, how can the North move on anyway ?

Same in South Derry - you had to buy your own (expensive) aerial as the Unionist controlled Magherafelt District Council wouldn't allow a mast to facilitate reception of RTÉ.  Many bought the RTÉ aerial so that we could connect with our fellow Irish people.  RTÉ has repaid that loyality by making Irish people in the 6 county part of the island of Ireland second-class Irish citizens.  They have achieved what the Council couldn't!!

How are the TV licences going now for RTPÉ?!!

Is the passport not good enough for you?

Iarrann Aire Gnóthaí Eachtracha agus Trádála na hÉireann ar gach n-aon lena mbaineann ligean dá shealbhóir seo, saoránach d'Éirinn, gabháil ar aghaidh gan bhac gan chosc agus gach cúnamh agus caomhnú is gá a thabhairt don sealbhóir.

In English:

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland requests all whom it may concern to allow the bearer, a citizen of Ireland, to pass freely and without hindrance and to afford the bearer all necessary assistance and protection.

Would you prefer a British passport? Or are the competitions more important?
e coe competitions more important?
Tá mé sásta go maith le mo phas Éireannach. Foireann as na sé chontae i gcluiche ceannais peile na hÉireann is ní thig lena muintir cur isteach ar chomórtas na dticéad? Tú compordach leis sin?

What mast? Do you mean some sort of communal aerial, RTÉ was not broadcast in the 6 counties until after 1998 and then it used the same transmitters as the BBC etc.

The last time they checked nobody complaining in the 6 counties had paid one to them.
Have heard all that shit before. As regard the RTÉ reception in the 1970s, an RTÉ mast could have been facilitated but was turned down by Magherafelt Council. Check your facts.

Did they not have donegal football officials there to save the day?

Firm favourites for a county senior final to 4th place.
Is that Dungiven v Slaughtneil in the final then or are there semi-finals?

I think we all have to move on.

Digging heels in for justice relating to crimes/events 30+ years ago will not help and highly unlikely to get the desired result.
So those waiting for justice are the problem now?  Strange use of language.

I wouldn't use the term "problem". But there certainly will not be desired outcomes for everyone.
So once a crime is 30+ years old, we all have to move on?  Is that what you are seriously suggesting?
