Would anyone have the stats of the games he has refereed this year?

Reason I'm asking.  I have noted the last four games,  where he has sent off at least one player (yesterday sent off three and had to be escorted from the pitch) Most egotisitcal referee that is about I would say and it always has to be about him

shawshank

he is just shocking, as bad a ref you will see at intercounty level.

Shocking at any level!  seen him book a player for swearing to himself after missing a sitter!

These are the types of referees that are being schooled these days unfortunately. Gone are the days of referees using their common sense or not revisiting incidents when asked by the CCCC, just ask Pat Fox. Better get used to overly fussy referring.

Big difference in over fussy and letting your ego get in the way!

Exactly how I feel about most of the newer referees.  That and big egos.

QuoteThat and big egos.

Could a person without a big ego stick it as a referee?. They are subjected to abuse from the first time they take the whistle.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

And in fairness he's up against some pretty serious competition!!!

The sendings off yesterday were bad decisions but he also bizarrely disallowed 2 points which were fisted over the bar.
Both of which looked perfectly ok.

Dougal Maguire

He refereed an underage match in South Armagh a year or two ago. The home team shot a wide, the umpire flagged it wide, Hughes insisted it was a score, this despite the fact that even the managers of the team that were being given the 'score' told him it was wide.
Careful now

He seems like a bit off an ass to be fair..  Surely the sign of a good ref is that no one talks about them after a game. But again the GAA top brass seem to pick the more harsh refs for big games and this takes away from the spectacle usually.  I wonder did he ever play himself?

At the start of the championship last year the refs were told to referee the handpass really tightly. The Derry Armagh game was the first one to be reffed like this and it was a farce. From then on all the other championship games were reffed less and less tightly with regard to the handpass rules. Most refs now apply common senese to allow the game to flow. At the moment Hughes is the only ref who refs this rule really tightly and he is way over the top. He has almost completely destroyed every game i've seen him ref.

Yet to see him have a good game, club or county.  Egotistical is the best way to describe him, shocking arrogant, but there's no point being a timid sort if you want to be an inter-county ref.  He's a by the book bureaucrat, lets nothing go or flow.

My early experience of watching Hughes was that he seemed to deliberately go against the flow on simple decisions at key times in games. An attitude that smacked of 'remember me'; all ego.

As mentioned above he's been an absolute bollocks about the handpass rule. The handpass rule was always going create horibble stopstart games, and when this was recognised it was quietly given a back seat (and for some refs, a place in the boot). Why Hughes feels the need to be different here is anyone's guess. But in saying that, if he gets rewarded with an AI final while he behaves like this, then he'll surely have fulfilled his career goals. I'd suggest that if he is awarded an AI final while he behaves like this, then the referee panel should not just be removed from office, but banned completely from any part in our games - for they would be directly responsible for encouraging the game towards ruination.

IMO Paudie Hughes has often been good when reffing for our club, which must speak volumes for the other Armagh refs' attitude towards us...
