HQ on the ball it seems!

A Chairde,

Following on from the adverse publicity the GAA have received in the aftermath of a fan being ejected in Navan for waving a Palestine flag, GAA HQ would like to take the opportunity to remind fans that the only flags permitted in GAA grounds are the Irish tricolour and GAA CLG flag.   Dublin fans travelling to Omagh are therefore kindly advised to leave their Union Jacks at home.

Go Raibh Mile Maith Agat.

GAA Discussion / Colm O'Rourke
June 18, 2017, 09:23:11 PM
Did anyone read Colm O'Rourke's article in the Indo today previewing Tyrone v Donegal?    Completely trashed both teams before a ball was kicked.  Also claimed Sean Cavanagh and Neil McGee would serve up their typical fare of "snarling nastiness".   WTF?   Say what you like about Cavanagh but I doubt there's a player in the country who would accuse him of "snarling nastiness"!

Perhaps he's looking at the incident in Ballybofey from 2015 through the lens of his long held anti-Tyrone bias where McGee tried to break Sean's finger from behind when the ball was out of play and both got a yellow card so that warranted castigating Sean Cavanagh?

He went on to suggest that a Tyrone fan with too much beer onboard giving him what for after a match was symptomatic of the entire county's inability to accept any form of criticism.

No Colm the county we not unable to accept criticism but we don't appreciate the way you offer the laziest form of analysis.  You attempt to smear the contribution to the game  of lifelong gaels players like Cananagh and Brian Dooher by singling out an incident that suits your narrow agenda and magnifying it to suggest that they are bringing the game into disrepute.  Rather than calling out the incident where McCann took an embarrassing dive in 2015, you chose to vilify the entire team with your "bad smell"  suggestion.  In your  article today attempted to belittle Tyrone and Donegal's entire contribution to the modern game rather than taking the time to properly analyse their recent performances.   You and Spillane persistently choose to run down Ulster teams and players based on single incidents in a game and a negative bias towards Ulster as a whole with little actual analysis of the tactics or individual gameplay.

Please get your head out of your ass and earn the salary you get from RTE rather than simply decide to be an irritant who relies on cliches and agreeing with everyone around you.

It is mere coincidence that on the same day the Kincora HIA inquiry (which the RUC, MI5 and British Politicians are alleged to have been involved in perpetrating as well as covering up) began, the PSNI just happen to claim a breakthrough in Kingsmills massacre, thus stealing the news headlines.  The following day the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings inquest reopening is announced and grabs the headlines again?

The Asst Chief Constable of the PSNI was on Nolan this morning and a somewhat sceptical Stephen asked him how a match of the palm-print on the van at Kingsmill could only come to light now 40 years on and he said that the recent advances in forensics and DNA should bring justice for many families no matter how long ago the crimes were committed.  Hopefully this is so.

Loughinisland massacre happened as recently as 1994 and the RUC found the getaway car, the weapons used, not to mention the balaclavas and gloves worn by the perpetrators.  Given the new advances in forensics and DNA mentioned by the ACC, justice for those families should be on its way soon too you would think?

General discussion / Anyone going to Poznan?
April 23, 2012, 03:57:12 PM
Myself and a mate have booked an hotel for the 9th June but cant get anywhere for the 10th that's not daylight robbery.  Does anyone know somewhere central that will take a one night booking at a reasonable price?  Even all the hostels seem to be insisting on a min 3 night stay.

Alternatively if any of you have rented a house/apartment and have a room going we'll be happy to pay our share.

thanks

Price of scrap copper is now about £4.50 a kilo!   Old copper pennies and two pences are now worth more for scrap than their face value! Crazy!

General discussion / Green Thumb
April 15, 2011, 02:00:18 PM
Does anyone here use Green Thumb for their garden?   I used them up until last year when we moved house and it was £50 for the year which I think was 4 visits to feed the lawn with something.   The lawn looked superb, no weeds and a lovely lush green.

Does anyone know what it is they put on the grass?  Whatever it is its mighty stuff.

General discussion / Pressure Washer recommendations
April 15, 2011, 08:42:04 AM
Lads the pressure washer has packed in.   Can anyone recommend one they use for the patio?   something nice and compact but that cleans well and quickly instead of standing all day.  Loads of cheap ones out there but many are like using an eletric toothbrush.

I have a steep bank at the side of the house that's a nightmare to cut so have killed the grass off and want to plant some fast-growing ground covering shrubs/plants.  Can anyone recommend some?

Everytime they meet a half decent team there's a new record score knocked in against them.   At this rate they'll be +20 in the handicap betting from July onwards.

I've bought myself a big Panasonic 46".  Super job.   Now I need a decent sound system for it.

I saw one in Makro that clips around the back and on each side so it looks like an extension of the TV itself which I liked.  I dont have a whole lot of room either side for floor standing speakers and am not fussed on wires trailing all ove the place.

Has anyone got the one I've decribed or can they recommend any other one?
