What did yous think of the referees over the weekend?

Clonoe V Donaghmore -  Eugene Mc Connell

Trillick V Moy - Sean Mc Cartan

Dromore V Ardboe - Sean Quinn

Augher V Aghaloo - Eamon Mc Hugh

Thought the ref in the Ardboe Dromore game had a decent performance, although he is fond of blowing the whistle 3 or 4 times evertime he blows it!
If i was an Aghaloo man id have to be disappointed with the ref, imo he was a lot harsher on them than augher, with the Aghaloo no. 11 especially on the receiving end from him continually, either with frees given against or not for, altough his red card in the end fully merited.  Aughers goal, overcarried, lot of steps on way through but finished well.  Overall though Augher were best team on the night and deserved to win the game.

thought the appointment of an eglish referee to the moy eskra game was a bit strange, given the fact of the close proximity of the clubs and especially that hes from the same club as the moy manager - and it showed in his performance.  normally i would have a lot of time for this ref and think hes fairly decent, but poor performance today, looked starstruck.

moy to reach final, but on that performance, stewartstown  would get my vote ahead of them, although conditions were terrible and moy will look to improve after today.

GAA Discussion / 7 a side football
June 02, 2008, 11:53:59 AM
Was wondering if any of you have experience of taking a 7 a side team, or watching good 7 a side football, whats the best way of approaching it tactically.  Is it playing 1-2-2-2 & sticking to positions or would playing most of the team behind the ball & building out with support play be more beneficial - if its this then would hand passing be the best option?

I know this is slighly different but anyway, is there anyway of appealing against a straight red card.  Got into a bit of a scuffle with the boy i was markin & the two of us ended up on ground - no punces thrown by either of us, and then ref sends both of us for striking.  It really was nothing and nobody at the match could understand the red cards.  Never been lined before so dont know the procedures in place.  Any help? Thanks

I was playin in a championship match a few years ago, and when we got ahead the boy i was marking started coming out with all the oul insulting slagging stuff and kept saying "Come on hit me, take your best shot" obviously trying to get me sent off, to which i replied, "I'm not as stupid as you look." This must have took a few minutes to register with him, but about 5 minutes after the penny must have dropped, cos he gave me a haymaker from behind, ripped my lip into shreds and shook the teeth.  It was him who promptly got sent off ;D  Its something that i didnt thing was funny at the time what with the busted mouth and all!, but its one that lookin back still makes me laugh

Apparently Dromore had 4 players in the final trial of which only two names were in the paper. The other two were informed on Friday Night but both were away at the gala so never found out until possibly Saturday at which time they couldn't make it. This disorganisation cost these players their chance, Why were there names not in the paper??
[/quote]

Disorganisation cost more than them the chance!  The reason i kept asking about the u15 squads was because i knew our club sent names forward but the lads were never called to trials.  When i saw the piece in the Irish News about the final trial i got in touch with our youth officer to see what was going on.  He made further investigations only to be told that all clubs had been informed via club email of what boys were to go to what trials , and that if the club hadn't acted on this it was their fault.  Our chairman then went through the emails received via this system,  right back to when we were originally asked to nominate players for u15,16&17.  No email had been sent asking for our boys to attend U15 trials.  Contact was made with the GDO on the Friday before the final trial- and it was confirmed that a mistake had been made by them, and that our club had NOT been emailed with this information.  Due to this c**k up our lads who would have had a chance at making the panel never got a fair crack at it.  They were told to go to the final trial the next day, but realistically they had no chance of making it- as all the other lads had been at at least 2 trials beforehand, and had already made an impression and in my opinion it was an empty gesture.  And before anyone says if they were good enough they would have made it based on the one day- they were as good and in some cases better than some of the boys on the panel.  My main gripe here is that someone in a position of responsibility made a balls up which left the lads involved with no chance & gutted that they didn't make the squad.  Did any other clubs experience the same sort of situation?

Does anyone have the final list for the U15 development squad?  The boys were told on Saturday morning that clubs would be emailed the final list on Tuesday.    If any of you have access to it could you post the panel.  Thanks

Thanks Norf.  You wouldn't by any chance know if the first list of names  for initial trials were sent out the same way?  I would be surprised at some omissions if all the boys from around here that were to be sent went, it could be more of a case that they didn't know it was on.
