Remember Rossies playing Down in a league game back in the early nineties too in Orchard park Elphin. Mickey Linden was in his pomp, and Derek Duggan similarly for us. Down were physically huge! Won on the day too as I remember.

Anyone have the team sheets?

Yeah, you Tyrone lads must understand that winning the AI and outgunning Kerry for over a decade is only 'technically' fulfilling the requirements for greatness. True legendary status only comes from getting your ass handed to you every year and still turning up faithfully confident of success!

Domnican was very solid for a number of years. Not spectacular but sometimes the better more-effective back is like that. Invariably he was marking the hotshots on the opposing team. Held Kerrigan very well the time they played Nemo in the semi and the Corkman was flying that year.

Love to see Sligo come through this and win but unfortunately think it will be Galway reasonably comfortably. Still, sands might be starting to shift in Connacht and Sligo always give them a game. Galway I think will also benefit from this and could take Mayo in the final.

From a Rossie point of view, please play him! We're happy to facilitate his re-introduction to the game and we promise to give him a new warm-up routine he won't have met in rugby up to now!

After poor game against Derry in the league, Mayo will want to re-establish their championship credentials and wrap up Connacht fairly easily. Expect them to blast out of the traps against Ross and have a match-winning lead built up by half-time. Still 2 divisions between these teams despite our progress and that shows on a championship day. Mayo stronger in most positions and will take a serious team to the Hyde. Rossies will look to be competitive as long as possible, and try to keep the game alive.

Seen Mulligan play many times and especially against Brigids in the club championship last year and he really is a special player. Lovely balance, two-footed and quick. Would walk onto any county team in the country.

Hard for Feeney to be out for most of the club final but no defence possible - clearest bodycheck you could see and straight in front of the referee. A lot of players will reconsider this tactic having seen this example. Could actually see referee saying he had no option..

Syf, I'm in agreement. Mango's guile and distruibution to an inside line that is currently on fire would give Ross a massive boost for the summer. John / Gay / whoever, make that call!...

I guess all careers come to an end sometime, even for Karl - thought he might have had one more tilt at IC though. For me, he has been the standout player of his generation in a Roscommon or Brigids shirt. Exemplified all that is good about the game. Strong, intelligent, competitive. He played against the best in the business and rarely came out second best. Highlights would be i)goal against corofin to win connacht club, ii)AI club final display iii)display against Tyrone/Kevin Hughes in Croke Park qtr final some years back iv) battles with Seamus Quinn. I've also seen his interaction with younger players coming through and it was that of a real leader - showed them respect and made them feel 10 foot tall. The highest accolade that can be said of a rossie player is he was a player in the mould of Dermot, and that applies to this man. Best of luck outside the white lines Karl.

Green Line, Wicklow stops - at least three with no infrastructure at all around them. Check it out yourself sometime Jinxy.

Paidi RIP was spot on in this article. Spatial awareness or future planning never came into it with our politicians over the last 10/15 years. We drew down BMW funds from Europe to sustain our rural regions, but all was invested in the urban sprawl around Dublin. No development of the regions, no growth in the other cities while Dublin continues to struggle with traffic, waste disposal, ghost estates and water shortages. While the LUAS now serves shiny new stations that nobody uses, post offices, garda stations and pubs close throughout the countryside! And to compound the problem they have now changed the electoral boundaries to ensure more politicians in the urban and less in the rural areas. And the onslaught continues: close the bogs, cover the country in pylons and, oh yeah! - drain the Shannon and divert it to Dublin because all its waterpipes are leaking! You couldn't make this up, only in Ireland!!
