Hectic weekend of football action ahead. My attempt at the winners:

Killanain v Mountbellew-Moylough                   Mountbellew
Glenamaddy v Dunmore McHales                    Glenamaddy
Killererin v Annaghdown                                Killererin
Claregalway v Tuam Stars                              Tuam
Ml. Breathnach v Cortoon Shamrocks               Cortoon
Milltown v Caherlistrane                                  Caherlistrane
Menlough v Caltra                                         Caltra
Corofin v An Cheathru Rua                             Corofin
Kilkerrin-Clonberne v St.Brendan's                   Kilkerrin-Clonberne
Salthill-Knocknacarra v Barna                           Salthill

Think we should have the beating of Annaghdown, tough enough assignment though. They brought Caltra to extra time in the championship last year and any team with players like Niall and Mattias Coleman and Frankie Burke is a serious prospect.(I presume Niall is clear to play for them because it wsa two yellows he got last week?)  Still think the ability of Padraic and Nicky Joyce should shade it for us. The team is doing well and I expect a win on Sunday. ;D

Seriously Gallboss, Menlough to beat Caltra? You a Menlough native by any chance?!

Won't particularly comment on individual matches, but Caltra (3rd. favourites) may struggle in the unfortunate absence of Noel Meehan against a Menlough side who won the Inter. c'ship in style last year. Salthill and Corofin are the 2 favourites, perhaps rightfully, but Corofin will still have the same failing of being unable to run up big scores against the better teams; Salthill will have much the same problem as they may be over reliant on Armstrong and Mikey D. Killererin should be even more solid this year and are good value at 10/1, (should gladden Duine's heart!). A good dark horse bet are Cortoon who have a nice mix of experience and some good young players coming through, at 20/1 an e.w. wager wouldn't go astray. Tuam Stars could also be worth a look as they seem to be on the up again after a long time in the doldrums.

In the Intermediate grade Moycullen appear to be the form team with Kilconly, St. James and Monivea/Abbey (hopefully) in with a shout.

On the hurling side, Portumna are favourites and will be going all out for the title. It's hard to see who might stop them; reigning champs Loughrea are off-form and injury-hit, Athenry struggle in E. Cloonan's absence for scores, Craughwell are handy but light, Mullagh solid but no scoring machines either. Clarinbridge are on-form at the moment and they or quite possibly Gort may be in the shake-up.

For what its worth, below is my punt on predictions for the weekend.

Killanain v Mountbellew-Moylough                   Mountbellew
Glenamaddy v Dunmore McHales                    Glenamaddy
Killererin v Annaghdown                                Killererin  (Just about - you could be biting the nails here DE!)
Claregalway v Tuam Stars                              Tuam
Ml. Breathnach v Cortoon Shamrocks               Cortoon
Milltown v Caherlistrane                                  Milltown (to shade it - a real 50:50 match here)
Menlough v Caltra                                         Caltra (should be a bruising encounter - class to prevail)
Corofin v An Cheathru Rua                             Corofin
Kilkerrin-Clonberne v St.Brendan's                   K-Clonberne
Salthill-Knocknacarra v Barna                           Salthill

Duine Eile

Yeah have a feeling it'll be a close one! The Coleman's and Frankie Burke are great players but who do Annaghdown have to keep tabs on Padraic and Nicky? I'm an eternal optimist so I'm going for a Killererin win (big surprise!) by about 2 points, wouldn't be surprised to see it go to extra time though.

MaroonAndWhite

Killanain v Mountbellew-Moylough                      Mountbellew
Glenamaddy v Dunmore McHales                       Glen
Killererin v Annaghdown                                   Killererin
Claregalway v Tuam Stars                                Tuam
Ml. Breathnach v Cortoon Shamrocks                 Shamrocks
Milltown v Caherlistrane                                   Caherlistrane
Menlough v Caltra                                           Caltra
Corofin v An Cheathru Rua                               Corofin
Kilkerrin-Clonberne v St.Brendan's                     Ballygar
Salthill-Knocknacarra v Barna                             Salthill

Killererin v Annaghdown will be a cracker.......I've still not forgotten that Co Final and that damned crossbar in Tuam Stadium!!! I believe Mike Newell is out for Annaghdown so that will be a huge loss-puts big pressure on a small man in Frankie. Killererin to have just enough.

There should be a shock somewhere in there but i dont see where its going to come unless Menlough can turn over Caltra. Local rivalry - you never know?

Duine Eile

Wins for Caltra over Menlough and Corofin over Carraroe and two draws AET, Kilkerrin-Clonberne and St.Brendan's and Tuam and Claregalway in the SFC

GallBoss

Shock of the round had to Annaghdowns win against Killererin what went wrong DE. Menlough really put it up to Caltra as I expected and it was only the man that is Mike Meehan that proved to be the difference.

Elsewhere wins for Cortoon , Salthill, Mountbellew, draws between Ballygar & Clonbern, Claregalway & Tuam not sure of the rest of the results. Milltown and Caherlistrane went to extra time not sure how it finished though.

Killererin were denied a draw and possible extra time when a perfectly good point was waved wide by an umpire.  DE will not be a happy bunny this morning !  Milltown beat Caherlistrane in extra time.
