GAA Discussion / TG4 coverage of NFL & NHL
January 15, 2016, 08:06:01 AM
Does anyone have the list of fixtures they are showing on Sundays?

I can find the Setanta Saturday matches on line but no sign of TG4.

Two men, who allegedly abused and insulted tourists of three different nationalities, have been remanded in custody at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

What a great place to go for your holidays.

How the mighty have fallen but not unexpected! How long before something similar happens to one of the current big clubs in England? It happens in the league of Ireland all the time it seems.

GAA Discussion / Tyrone Ladies Football Final
June 27, 2011, 08:17:02 AM
I heard Noel Doran from the Irish News on the wireless last night talking about a Punch up at the Tyrone Ladies final. Apparently there was a row at the end of the match and the referee and a county board official were both knocked out.

Never annoy a Tyrone woman.

General discussion / National Day of Protest on 6th Nov!
November 03, 2009, 07:41:04 PM
ICTU have organised a National Day of Protest for Friday to protest the Govt's handling of the economic crisis. Marches will be held in 8 town and city centres - Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Sligo, Tullamore, and Dundalk.

Details here: http://www.getupstandup.ie/getinvolved/nationaldayofaction/

Over on Slugger O'Toole, Mack argues that the unions have been in denial but that they are beginning to smell the coffee. Not everyone agrees with him. Here's a link to the story: http://sluggerotoole.com/index.php/weblog/comments/end-of-the-denial-phase/

Union leaders appear to favour cuts in the number of public servants rather than cuts in pay. http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1103/partnership.html

Will you be supporting the Day of Protest?

General discussion / Traditional Irish Food
October 20, 2009, 09:01:59 PM
Is there such thing?

The French, Italians and even the English might look down on us but there are times when I love nothing better than the meals my mother used to cook.
Liver, bacon and onions. Or Champ. Or stew. Or fried turnip/cabbage and bacon. Vegetable soup. A fry on Sunday afer Mass.

Sometimes the traditional Irish meals we grew up with just hit the spot.

I see the British "Hearts and minds" campaign in Afghanistan is going well. If it wasn't for the death of the unfortunate child this would almost be funny it's so ridiculous.

GAA Discussion / Club with the longest name?
September 18, 2009, 08:30:57 AM
I met a woman recently who proudly informed me that Newtownbutler First Fermanagh's Gaelic Football Club has the longest name of any GAA in the world.

Why someone would want to claim this I don't know. I suppose in Newtownbutler there isn't too much to boast about.

Surely there must be another club somewhere with a longer name than that or is this accepted as fact? Should someone inform the Guinness Book of Records?

GAA Discussion / Paul Grimley Changes his mind
September 16, 2009, 08:23:42 AM
According to Monaghan County Board chairman John Connolly, Paul Grimley has changed his mind. He advised the county secretary yesterday that he now wants a red Ford Focus rather than the blue one the Board have ordered for him.

GAA Discussion / County Finals
September 15, 2009, 08:11:13 AM
Where and when are all the county finals and who is competing in them?

The Down SFC is in Newry, 4th Oct at 3.30pm. Kilcoo v Loughinisland.

SHC final is in Portaferry on 27th Sept. Ballygalget v Ballycran.

Cushendall play Dunloy in the Antrim SHC. When will it be played?

The Loup play Dungiven in Derry SFC. Where and when?

What's the situation in other Counties?

The CCC's preferred option for 2010 has been published. Carlow get to play in the Liam McCarthy with no relgation throughout the tiers.

Next year there will be 1 county relegated to Christy Ring provided it's Carlow that lose the play off. If it's any other county then the rules will be looked at again!

No promotion for Christy Ring winners next year to bring the numbers back to even numbers. What's the point in winning Christy Ring?
