Liverpool were lucky to win that final but were far the better team in the final they lost two years later. As Greavsie used to say footballs a funny old game...

And Milan were a poorer team at that stage. They were in year 2 of Inter Milan's 5 in a row league titles.

Much poorer indeed.

2004-2005 finished 2nd in Serie A seven points behind Juventus.

2006-07 finished 4th in Serie A  thirty six points behind neighbours Inter Milan.

Milan reached 3 champions league finals between 2003 and 2007, winning 2. They also reached the Q/F and S/F the other 2 years

United also reached 3 finals from 2007-2011. And one QF and a semi in the other two years too.

Only for meeting that Barca team in two finals, they could have had 3 titles.

Or zero if John Terry hadn't tripped on his arse.

Yup, that too.

Fine margins and all that.

Only for an undeserved injury time winner against Chelsea Barca wouldn't have even been in the 2009 final and United would have fancied themselves to beat Chelsea...

Small margins ndeed.....

Imagine if Liverpool had had Allison for the past three seasons, fully fit all the time?

No Karius in Kiev.

No Adrian gifting a reeling Atletico a decisive goal out of nothing in extra time.

Could be going for three in row, COVID notwithstanding. Small margins! :)

Atletico won both games in fairness.

Liverpool were well on top and likely going to win the tie until Adrian's mistake.

Atletico would have had to come out, having spent the game camped in their own box, to get back in the game. Instead, Adrian took care of that within a few minutes, and they were then able to pick off a tired Liverpool on the break.

This is a big move towards getting football back fairly soon. Despite the soundings these past few weeks that football would inevitably come back, probably in June, this second phase was seen as a major hurdle to overcome.  The fact that it is a unanimous decision is highly significant too.  Maybe the reality of PPG has hit a few of the bottom six.
That's just, like your opinion man.

Virgil van Dijk: "We played fantastic for the first 95 minutes, but unfortunately things like this happen. We were not tired at all."

Maybe demoralized then. Because Liverpool didn't really threaten at all after the Adrian error and the second half of extra time was a non-event, with the only question being whether Atletico would score again to win on the night.

In fairness Athletico lost the second 90 minutes 1-0. They did well in extra time though after Adrian got them into the game. Liverpool were the better team by a long way but Athletico took  advantage of Liverpool mistakes in both legs to win the tie. Athletico won't be winning the champions league this year.
