GAA Discussion / Re: Joe Brolly

QuoteJoe's story about the U16 sounds fairly dubious to me.

The housemate and I went over to St Brigid's pitch one evening a month ago and came across Joe taking the U16s.  Players were in a game of backs v forwards at the end of the session. Joe( in suit trousers and shirt) with a running commentary "Losers make excuses, winners get on with winning!" but at one stage he did take a young lad aside correcting him with the coaching points of the punt pass. That may have been the extent of it, but sure it doesn't make for as good a yarn in the paper.

Anyone heading over to Vienna in a few weeks?

I'm heading over Friday to Sunday. Belfast - Vienna (via Amsterdam)

Hopefully we get a clean bill of health after this weekend's fixtures but the noises about McCarthy don't sound good. Arter'll hopefully play a part if he's unavailable but we've more MF options unlike up front where we're threadbare ATM. Could've done with Robbie still being available.

Anyone going over?
Heading via London tomorrow. Back on Tuesday. 3 points and no bombs would be lovely!

On Eurostar Sunday morning and staying until the end of the 2nd round. I'm trying to keep the expectations low but you can't help but dream of something special.

DCU aren't the first group of lads to come away from Jordanstown with just 2.2 to their name.

I see a few places saying today that Paul Durcan us back for the Ballyboden match. Is he definitely eligible? Played the middle eastern games at the weekend in qatar and now for ballyboden 2 weeks later

You don't need a transfer to play for a middle eastern club.

I've booked the Eurostar from London the day before the Sweden game and 2 nights accommodation in Paris. From there, the train to the Bordeaux region for 6 nights(potentially 2 different bases atm) then fly up to Lille for a few days. I'll stay for as long as we're in the competition. Hopefully it's as enjoyable as Poland but more memorable.

9 up at half time in extra time??
The game was nip and tuck until Rasharkin pulled away, going 8 clear by half time of ET and the game looked to be over. They then went 9 up but we rallied scoring 2.3 on the bounce to get a draw and pushed for a winner. FT Ballela 3.20 Rasharkin 2.23.
In the first game of the double header our camogs beat Aghagallon in the Ulster Int so it was a memorable day down at the club.

Was there a huge wind or anything? Sounds like a cracking match.

There was a decent breeze but during ET both teams racked up the majority of their scores playing into it. Sums up the hectic nature of ET yesterday.

Just out of curiosity, if I were to create an FAI Away ticket applications account, and apply for tickets for the Poland game - what are the chances of getting any?  ::)

I'm neither of the following:
:- Club Ireland Member
:- ROI Supporters Club member (although I see this can be easily added in to your supporter profile - do they check this out if I just enter Derry ROISSC?   ??? )
:- Member of League/Club/Affiliate
:- Season Ticket Holder

50fiftyball Myself and 3 others received confirmation this morning that our application was successful and we didn't have a great paper trail to meet all the above criteria. There's around 3,500 tickets and the feeling is most applications will be successful. Maybe worth your while sending the FAI an email if the portal is closed.

I'd recommend going to http://www.230-fifth.com/ . No point sitting inside in any of the run of the mill bars that are the same as home. It's rooftop and looks across Manhattan with the Empire State Building behind you. Class spot with the sun shining and a beer.

"I am just going outside and may be some time."  Antarctic explorer Capt Lawrence Oates set out to meet his death.
He was one of five men who died as they tried to return home from Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1912. Oates is remembered because of his act of self-sacrifice, committed because he believed he was slowing the others down.

Few weeks left to go.
Anyone link me to any time filler tasks/activities etc?

Year? 'BGFL maths investigations' for a rake of numeracy work with zero input, which keep both KS1 and 2 busy, . General knowledge is key IMO, so any quizzes forward them on. Personalised comments for the year (achievements and targets) which have been typed up to copy into reports are essential. .. Vote on your favourite book of the year and make a door display to show off to other years.

These next few weeks drag! Going to work the children as normal right up to the last Friday, then a couple of Dvd days. Then freedom!

Wishful thinking, I teach as an NQT in London. Different ball game. We'd 4 inspectors in yesterday for a 'Teaching and learning Review 'and can "look forward" to another 5 weeks of school.  :-\

I'm thinking of heading  to Ruislip for the Cavan v London match on the 20th. Never been before and haven't a notion about London or Ruislip. Any advice on good spots to stay the night after??
Recommend Camden, great spot for bars. Northern line southbound to Euston, change for Victoria line southbound and get off at Oxford circus......then hop on Central Line westbound to South Rusilp...take about 50 mins in total. Rusilip is a mile out and a kip. Avoid Leicester square at all costs....Temple bar crossed with The Only Way is Essex....

Camden has a rake of class bars...lock 17 by the canal/market is decent. The Oxford Arms is a good solid Mayo pub if you are looking for any Irish Sport/Sunday game that night.

No mention of the Swan Stockwell as a high quality establishment?  :o Championship days out in Ruislip are always a good excuse for a day on the beer for us exiles, looking forward to it.

The prequel to my one and only appearance in London club football was a trip across the top shelf in that place. Was delighted to see a pretty old guy approaching me the next day at throw in. Fcuker never stopped running though, appearances were deceiving. No idea who won the game, there was a fair few rows and we all had a few pints after.

With the Swan closing at 7am you did well making the match never mind playing well.
