there's far more competition in place now since GAA board started up. If I want to get the up to date on what's happening I can go on Twitter and get a blow by blow account of what's happening in games, I don't need to come on here to know who lined out, who scored etc. Similalrly Paul Fitz in the Celt does top class real time reporting on fixtures. Less need to use this space.

Particularly happy to see Conor Moynagh get some game time today, the impact he had when he came on in last years AISF was something else, hope he gets injury free this year, Would say it was a stronger line out than last week with only a few notable absentees. Can only assume Mayo were well below full strength as reading the posts here earlier in the week one got the impression an encounter with either Mayo or Ros could result in one hell of a tanking.

Things looking good but will be a hell of an effort to retain Ulster this year with the draw.

Wexford Rodders? In personal experience a narkier little shower of supporters or officials you will travel a long distance to match. Mind You I was not totally without blame on the occasions in question. Family connections with louth make soft spot for them. Longford lads can't be faulted. Galway always seemed to play the game like it was meant to be played. No problems with Down either,

The myth of Galway  ::)

It has to be untrue to be a myth. ;)

No Myth, genuine football achievers, probably more football All Irelands than the rest of Connacht combined and 10% of the online noise. 3 in a row 60's 98 All Ireland Winners were super footballers, was a pleasure to watch their Under 21s unravel McGeeneys Gym monkeys last year, just a few examples there.

the fact that we are in the EU makes it a bit difficult to bring in an Australian or US green card system, well unless we are saying it's only non EU immigrants people have a concern about

see above Westside, he came on as a sub for Carlow IT after an hour last night, suggests to me he might be coming back from injury, hard to imagine him not being with under 21 panel

Anyone hear a rumour about another Cavan star moving to Sylvester's? I won't mention any names in case it not true.

Sylvesters have a few country lads in addition to Keating I think. I understand there are some serious connections there to very senior staff levels at one of the banks and a bit of help can be given on the jobs hunting front. Given the way things are for lads coming out of college it would be easy enough to be tempted by an offer.

So nothing about the polarised communities up here then MR?

Employment and Education on a level playing field, but the lack of integrated schooling mean continued polarisation between the two communities up here. Obviously the way a lot of the older generation (on both sides) and the catholic church want it, but long term in gets us nowhere.

In fairness the thread was addressed to 26 counties and while there is merit in the view taken about the possibly differing positions taken in the South it hardly needs a PHD in much to come to the conclusion that the divisions in the north will take longer to mend,

think this thread might have been relevant in the pre internet era myself. Most Catholics in the "south" these days give very little heed to being catholics themselves so are hardly going to get wound up  about whether the other fellas is a prod or something else. there's always the odd nut job of course

Will offer just a few updates to Deiseachs comments. Hell of a lot of investment has gone into the viking triangle down by Reginalds Tower/Tower hotel end of the Quays. Big money has been spent on the reopened Reg Bar and I understand its doing a fair bit of business along with the Munster bar which is 100 yards along. There are a number of really good restaurants across the street close to the Crystal Visitors Centre. Sabai is a very nice and reasonably priced Thai/Viet restaurant in a very nice building. Next door is an Italian restaurant which is the same crew as used to own La Palma, can't remember the name of it to save myself. Plenty of action over the pre and post christmas period with the Winterval festival which has brightened things up quite a bit. If you want top class, really good value indian food Cafe Ghoa is halfway down the Quays opposite the bus station. Cramped for space but I defy anybody to find me better Indian food in the country at the price level.

Deiseach-T and H's is for sale with the owner retiring from the game. Looking at the asking price I'd say he'd nearly give it away if pushed. City on it's uppers and that side of town really suffering.

With christmas on the way people might be looking forward to a break from the football and a chance to buy a few presents. I've finished reading The Fairytale in New York by Paul Fitz and would strongly recommend it to people as a read over the silly season. Some story, some amount of research went into it and very well written. Hope Cavan give him a reason to put pen to paper again at some stage in the not too distant future.
