Apparently Jonny Cooper was the 21st player sent off in an AI football final.

I'm trying to figure out the other 20.

And who was the first sent off? It wasn't Kevin Moran again, was it?  ;D

I can only think of:

Donal Vaughan
John Small
Liam McHale
Colm Coyle
Charlie Redmond (eventually)
Diarmuid Marsden (unfairly, of course)
Tony Davis
Meath 2001, Nigel Nestor, was it?
Cork 1988, Colm O'Neill? (Punched Mick Lyons. Brave man!)

3 Dubs in 1983. Mullins?
1 Galway in 83?

OK, I'm done.

Joe Stafford of Cavan in 1943
John Donnellan of Galway and the brothers Derry O'Shea and John 'Thorny' O'Shea of Kerry in 1965
Charlie Nelligan of Kerry in 1978,
Páidí Ó Sé of Kerry in 1979,
Brian Mullins, Kieran Duff, Ray Hazley of Dublin and Tomás Tierney of Galway in 1983,

That's the first 10...

Gerry McEntee of Meath in the 1988 replay,
Tony Davis of Cork in 1993,
Charlie Redmond of Dublin in 1995,
Liam McHale of Mayo and Colm Coyle of Meath in the 1996 replay,
Nigel Nestor of Meath in 2001,
Diarmuid Marsden of Armagh in 2003,
John Small of Dublin and Donal Vaughan of Mayo in 2017, and
John Small of Dublin again in 2018.

10 more, up to 20...

21...Jonny Cooper of Dublin in 2019 drawn game.

Dublin lead the way with 7, Kerry have 4, Meath 3, Galway and Mayo 2 each, Cavan, Cork and Armagh 1 each.

Tatler Jack

I remember Corney O Shea of Kerry sent off in 64 or 65 final. I think his brother and John Donellan of Galway were also sent off.

Top, top reading of the previous post.  Being in the Tatler Jack till 5:49 in the morning has consequences I suppose.

Ball hopper, no Colm O'Neill?

I can't recall John Small getting red last year.

I'd say we're top of the table based on no. sending off per final appearance. I'm sure if we got to a few more finals we might 'improve' those numbers.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

Yes O'Neill was sent off in 1990.

John Small got a second yellow in the 71st minute, so that's a red for him.

No idea why O'Neill wasn't on my list...just proves that RTE research went to the same wiki page as I did  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_records_and_statistics#Disciplinary

What was Charlie Nelligan and Paidi sent off for in 78 and 79?

What was Charlie Nelligan and Paidi sent off for in 78 and 79?

A schemozzle in the Kerry square - Charlie in his bright gold geansai stuck out like a sore thumb in the middle of it all.

Paidi jumped up on David Hickey's back, piggyback style.  Probably one of the gentler ways he could have chosen to bring him down, but Hugh Duggan didn't agree.
