GAA Discussion / Connacht u20 Final Venue?
April 15, 2022, 05:39:30 PM
I think this deserves its own thread because I want as much input as possible and for outside of Connacht folk to see what's going on.

Sligo qualified for the Connacht u20 final beating Roscommon on Wednesday. The game was in Markievicz because we last played Roscommon last year at u20 in the Hyde. Connacht at underage has a home and away agreement and at senior but because of attendance issues we play our final at neutral venues at senior.
Mayo beat Leitrim in the other semi-final.

Mayo and Sligo last played in the u20 in 2019 in McHale Park.

So can someone explain to me why the final is fixed for the Centre Of Excellence in Mayo?
A few things -

Its clearly our home game
No player wants to play there in a final
From a health and safety perspective if a huge crowd shows up, how many can it hold?
It favors Mayo and gives them home advantage
They played there in the qtr final

The Connacht council in 2019 changed the rules on the minor after the league to favor Mayo when they were likely to finish 3rd in the group. 2nd place was supposed to get a home semi-final but they changed it back to the home/away agreement when mayo finished 3rd.
Sligo played Galway 3 times in a row away in the knockout part of the minor championship in the noughties when they were a league format.

The rules are always changed to suit certain counties but this blatant disregard for the agreements in place. I think it's scandalous and if I was Sligo I would say Markievicz or nowhere.

Does anyone know what the logic is here or what's going on?

Visitors to Canada's National Tower in Toronto can now pay $175 (£111) to walk hands-free around the outside of the building... attached only by a cable.

Groups of up to eight will shuffle across a ledge that's only 5ft wide, has no guard-rail and is 1,168ft above ground.

During the experience, called EdgeWalk, trained guides will encourage adrenaline junkies to lean over the edge of the tower and take in views of Toronto and Lake Ontario.

The insane-looking experience lasts around 90 minutes, with the walk itself taking 20-30 minutes.

Anyone can have a go as long as they meet height and weight requirements, and the experience has been designed with 'utmost safety and security in mind'.

CN Tower President Mark Laroche said: "EdgeWalk is both thrilling and unique and will push visitors to their limits — literally and figuratively."

:-\ wouldnt mind doing it, but take balls of steel

Given the countrys states seeing these clowns lepping up and down, and standing ovations, and big crowds of cheering well wishers is pissing me off.

Enda kenny nearly lost his seat in 2002, lost the 2007 election LUCKIEST LOSS EVER,  and only because fianna fail were so bad hes getting in now. Its looking likely hes going to have won that election on a pack of lies but that will be known later..

Its like me getting starting for Sligo on sunday not because im any good, its because the others players in my position are so shite..

Although i do hope he gets it right and fixes the problems. I really do. Good luck to him but fck the celebrating clowns.

:D :D
It is often said of goalkeepers that they have nothing to lose in a penalty shoot-out. Tell that to Khalid El Askri.
The Moroccan was between the sticks for FAR Rabat who were in action at MAS Fes in the last 16 of the Moroccan Coupe du Trone.

The game finished 1-1 and, after 30 minutes of extra time, it went down to penalties.

In the penalty shoot-out, El Askri stepped up to make a critical early save from Fes man Driss Belaamri.

So happy was the stopper that started beating his chest and, celebrating with his fans, kissing the club badge. The crowd, however, could see what El Askri could not.

The ball, laden with spin after being blocked, was edging lazily back to the goal. As it rolled over the line, Belaamri - who kept his eyes on the ball throughout - celebrated scoring the world's luckiest penalty.

And for El Askri and Rabat, who are the most successful side in the Moroccan cup's history, there was no reprieve - Fes won the shoot-out 7-6 to advance to the quarter-finals

Mum's Miracle Cuddle Brings Baby Back To Life

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100827/twl-mum-s-miracle-cuddle-brings-baby-bac-3fd0ae9.html

A mother who nursed her premature baby back from the dead has been describing how she refused to give up even though doctors had told her he would not survive. Skip related content

Kate Ogg gave birth to twins in a hospital in Sydney, Australia.

They were delivered at 27 weeks, weighing just 2lb, and though Mrs Ogg's little girl Emily was healthy, her brother Jamie was not breathing.

After battling to save him for 20 minutes, medical staff told her he had not survived.

"The doctor asked me had we chosen a name for our son," said Mrs Ogg.

"I said 'Jamie' and he turned around with my son already wrapped up and said: 'We've lost Jamie, he didn't make it, sorry'.

"It was the worst feeling I've ever felt. I unwrapped Jamie from his blanket. He was very limp."

Mrs Ogg told Channel 7's Today Tonight programme that she wanted to hold him next to her skin.

"I took my gown off and arranged him on my chest with his head over my arm and just held him.

"He wasn't moving at all and we just started talking to him.

"We told him what his name was and that he had a sister. We told him the things we wanted to do with him throughout his life."

After two hours, he began showing signs of life.

"Jamie occasionally gasped for air, which doctors said was a reflex action," Mrs Ogg explained.

"But then I felt him move as if he were startled, then he started gasping more and more regularly. I gave Jamie some breast milk on my finger, he took it and started regular breathing normally."

"I thought 'Oh my God, what's going on?' A short time later he opened his eyes. It was a miracle.

"Then he held out his hand and grabbed my finger. He opened his eyes and moved his head from side to side. The doctor kept shaking his head saying: 'I don't believe it, I don't believe it'."

It is thought that the warmth of Mrs Ogg's body acted like an incubator to keep the baby warm and stimulated.

It adds weight to the theory of "kangaroo care", named after the way marsupials care for their young in their pouches.

Some experts believe a skin-to-skin approach is more beneficial that taking newborn babies into intensive care incubators.

Jamie is now a healthy five month old.

His father David told the Channel 7 programme: "Luckily I've got a very strong, very smart wife. She instinctively did what she did. If she hadn't done that, Jamie probably wouldn't be here."
