Hi Caid,

The bulk of preparation for volunteers is done on the three training weekends, the other main thing is fundraising the amount but that can be done in the UK of course. If you can make it to all or almost all of the weekends you should be grand for time off work.

The Programme itself lasts 10 weeks, around June 8-August 20 (rough dates).

You can indicate your preference between India and Kenya on the Application Form, Suas will take it into account but there is no definite guarantee you'll get the exact placement you want. They focus on building suitable teams of volunteers who work well together as well as looking at what they will bring to the Programme. If you have a particular interest in one of the countries or reason for favouring it you can always mention that in the interview. (I did, I wanted to go to India and was placed there, but of course I can't promise you the same thing!  ;)).

Suas Looking for Leaders to work in India/Kenya next Summer

Owenbeg, you're asked to raise € 2995, which covers flights accommodation and a donation to your host School. If you've fundraised before you know how generous people can be, and Suas provide full support and a fundraising mentor for each team!

Check out http://www.suas.ie/fundraising0.html for more info on fundraising!

Suas looking for Volunteers to work in India/Kenya next summer

COACH. TEACH. LEARN.

Join the staff and children of our Partner Schools who believe in education as a step to a brighter future. Next summer could be your opportunity to work together to make a difference.

The Suas Volunteer Programme provides an opportunity to volunteer in a community-based education project for ten weeks, while learning about different cultures. It offers the possibility to develop personal and professional skills, to work in a team, and to learn about the challenges and opportunities of Development in our interconnected world.

What does the Programme involve?

Training and Preparation (Feb - June): Including preparation weekends (teaching skills, language, project management, Health & Safety), and full support while you fundraise the participation fee (an experienced fundraising mentor per team, materials, resources, training and more..)

Overseas Work Placement (June – Aug): a 10 week placement working for one of our Partner Schools in India or Kenya. Volunteers work primarily as teaching assistants but also engage in various other activities including research, curriculum development, & IT support.  The Programme also involves a unique opportunity to learn about Development through on-going NGO visits and a week of in-country workshops facilitated by the UN.

Return and Closeout (Aug - Oct): A debriefing weekend in October gives Volunteer teams a chance to talk about their experience, to celebrate their achievements, and to look forwards and ask what's next?

Application Deadline – Monday 21st December
