Apparently that is Roscommon's 3rd win in a row against Mayo in the FBD. The last championship meeting between the two Mayo only won by one point. If Roscommon stay up in division one they could make impact this summer.

Mayo not beaten Ros since 2012 in fbd according to a tweet I just read when Michael Jackson scored 0-6 .

You'd have to think they are closing in though all joking aside they have some classy little footballers in their squad.
Walk-in down mchale rd , sun out, summers day , game day . That's all .

Well that's the FBD experiment over for another year. Great crowd in McHale Park. Pitch was so so! But hey it's mid January and it has pissed rain for the last 2 and a half months. Referee was a bit biased, and we got little of the 50/50 calls. I found it humerous, but many of the Mayo supporters around us were not impressed. In fairness Padraig O'Hora should have walked for a second yellow, but the ref had enough cop on not to give  a rookie a red in this sort of game.  Roscommon looking very sharp and well worth their victory. Player availability a bit of a problem for Mayo at the moment. Looks like Keane, Higgins and Loftus got bad knocks today and will add to this. Maybe just as well we don't have another game next week. In the scheme of things today means nothing. Now to regroup see who is available for the first two games of the league and what we can get from those games.

Scorers - Roscommon: C Murtagh 0-4 (4fs), C Cregg 0-3, E Smith, N Collins, N Daly, F Cregg, S Kilbride, D Murtagh all 0-1 each

Mayo: C Loftus 0-5 (4fs), J Doherty 0-2 (2fs), M Ronaldson, K Ruttledge, J Gibbons all 0-1 each.

Roscommon: G Claffey; S McDermott, N Collins, R Stack; C Daly, N Daly, N McInerney; E Smith, I Kilbride; F Cregg, C Murtagh, R Daly; S Kilbride, C Cregg, D Murtagh. Subs: B Murtagh for N Daly (49), S Oates for D Murtagh (56), K Kilcline for F Cregg (56), G Patterson for Stack (58).

Mayo: R Hennelly; P O'Hora, K Keane, G Cafferkey; K Higgins, C Crowe, C Boyle; T Parsons, J Gibbons; J Doherty, M Ronaldson, D McHale; K Ruttledge, D Vaughan, C Loftus. Subs: L Keegan for Higgins inj (5), S McHale for Keane inj (18), D O'Connor for Ruttledge (44), S Nally for Boyle (50), B Harrison for O'Hora (52), B Reape for Loftus inj (56).

Referee: J Gilmartin (Sligo).

The ref may as well have wore a Mayo jersey in the second half Bunker. At least three phanthom gimme frees were given to Mayo in the second half. You wouldn't have been in the game without him.

True, the crowd had began to get on his back by then and booed and hissed every decision that went against Mayo. Made little difference in the end. Roscommon always had Mayo at arms length.

Plenty of misplaced passes by us but a good performance overall. Defense looks like they have a clue now and that's a huge plus if it follows through to the league.

Duirmuid Murtagh and Senan looked a bit rusty in the first half but both stepped it up in the second half. Senan scored a beauty on his wrong side and popped up a perfect pass for a point not long after. Midfield did well considering we've no established midfielders left standing. Hopefully Cathal Shine isn't injured and was just rested today.

David Murray is highly rated in the county but by God does he have miles to go to be as good as Seanie. Some of his plays on the ball today were spectacular, he's electric. I can see him going down as one of the all-time great Ros players at this stage.

Is the Tuam pitch fùcked then? Attendance will be way down on both sides if they drag it to Salthill on a bitter January Sunday. Better to do what we did today and give the home game up and play it in Kiltoom like last year.

Don't know what the story is there. He seems to think it'll be on in Pearse though.

Prenty won't be happy if it's in the wind tunnel.
Probably take a €15k hit if it is.

Davy's given us a dream to cling to
We're going to bring home the SAM

It was a day for big upsets.

Man U beat Lpool
Dublin knocked out by Longford as well.

So shock Ros win probably another part of it.

Longford beating Dublin an upset - Yes!
Man Utd Beating Liverpool - Not really!
Ros beating a Mayo side with 7 that played against Dublin last summer - No shock (really)! (no Barrett, Higgins, Cuniffe, Shamie, Barry Moran, Durcan, McLoughlin, Cillian, Andy Moran, Mickey Sweeney, Aido)

No Keenan, Higgins, Cathal Shine, Donie Shine, Ward, Harney, Carty, Murray for us. All championship starters. D. Murtagh and Senan just back after injury lay-ups. Mayo were up against a team in a similar situation, it's hardly like we lined out with a full team so that can hardly be the reason for the loss. Rochford had an epic rambling monologue on Mid West after the game.. hopefully the Mayo panel give this man a chance before cutting him at the knees.

What did he say that made you describe his interview as a rambling monologue(youre some buck for irony I tell ya)  ?  The dig you have at our players re the no confidence vote last year is just pathetic .

Ye have put down your marker now come and get us in the White Heat next July if your balls are big enough .  Jeez if Ye beat us in the league ,we might have to have the Connacht final in croker such will be the demand for tickets .

Yeah Sy, was not belittling the Ros win. More giving a perspective of the Mayo squad out and discounting this result as a shock giving the players missing (on both sides from your post). Today was (sorta) Rochfords first test, given it was against a 'Real' team and was at home. From being at the Match there was a hunger for success in the stand which I assume Rochford felt. The reality is most of the lads out on the pitch today will be as much fans like the rest of us come the summer. The most important thing today was not the result, it was more getting a run out without getting injured.

Higgins got a bad knock to his knee, looked totally fecked trying to run it off. And Keane's shoulder went too. Both going for scans Rochford says. Wouldn't wish a serious injury on any player this early in the year.
