You might see somewhat safety first style football, but he has better knowledge of the PL than ETH did (as that clearly shows ), and I reckon he'd steady the ship and tighten things up at least.
I'm not clued into the European leagues so I don't know who else would be a good fit at united ( other than Ancelotti, perhaps), but as we've seen, continental managers to the PL are much riskier as the game in Spain/Italy is different. So in that respect, Southgate would probably be the best of a mediocre bunch of british-style managers , at this stage
Is that true? 14 of the 20 PL managers are foreign, 13 of them European.
What less risky English appointments have there been? Potter?
Could never understand that move by Potter, moving from one of the most stable structures in the premier league to one of the biggest basket cases. Don't think it made him a bad manager but it has definitely hurt him, he will need his next job to be a success to get back to that level.
ETH got a good reception from the OT fans last night after the game, don't think there is any real desire to oust him. That may change after the Cup Final or maybe it is just an acceptance of the situation the squad are in at the moment.
Varanne seemed genuinely sad to be leaving, Martial on the other hand looked like he couldnt get off the pitch quick enough.
