New Underage Club Structures
« on: December 13, 2017, 11:28:42 AM »
There has been a lot of debate in Tyrone as to whether we will remain with club competitions at u12 u14 u16 and u18 or whether these will change to u11 u13 u15 and u17. What is happening in other counties around the country

No idea whats happening in Antrim....but if it changes to suit the intercounty decision, it will see more young players walk away from the game. More than ever are 18 year olds on the whole not developed enough to physically compete in senior grades but here we are looking at stripping a year away from them. OK  :o

Derry staying with old grades for this year. The new sysyem is a surefire recipe for losing players at a younger age than previously.

Crazy to me that it requires a debate. It should be a straightforward ... No! ... too many young people will stop playing our games if we do so, so No!

This "But if a county game takes place it'll affect 2 age groups" argument doesn't seem to care about losing players. Seems to be the only reason to blindly follow suit. Are there others I haven't heard?

It was decided to change to u14 half. U16 half, u18 half in Tyrone. Ulster council knocked it on the head
Is this a new debate

Thankfully Down are sticking with the status quo for 2018.

This has been poorly thought out in CP and to address a burn out issue affecting a maximum of 5% of underage hurlers and footballers they've screwed over hundreds of 18 year olds through the country.

I believe Monaghan are going u11, u13, u15 and both u17 and minor with the u17 competition in the early part of the year and the minor in 2nd part presumably after all exams are over.

Mayo run both. Even age competitions are the main competitions. U 11, 13 and 15 played from August onwards. U17 dropped a few years ago due to poor interest.

we broke the rule book, no one on our county board knew that the rules book states at a kid has to be 18 after the 1st Jan.

Laois changing everything to the odd numbered ages. Under 17, 15, 13 etc...
