GAA Discussion / Re: John Morrison for Cavan
September 15, 2011, 09:23:00 AM
I interviewed him once. Nice man, very professional and accommodating. Really intense. However, at the end of the interview I didn't know if I had interviewed him or he had lectured me. Highly articulate and passionate about what he does. Can't knock a man for enthusiasm , espcially when it is backed up with vast knowledge. His ideas are undoubtedily wacky, but I guess that's not news to anyone, so the Cavan players need to be open minded. Ask any Meath player of the Boylan era and they will tell you that here was none wackier than Sean. didn't seem to hold them back any.

Have I got this right.

These guys are very upset that someone linked them to a demand for an apology, and they are so upset that they now demanded an apology?

That's about it in a nutshell Muppet. Concisely put. Well done old boy.

Duggan is from Domnegal but he is also an advocate for the little man and the underdog. Just read "House of Pain and you'll see his affinity with the under achiever.

Wonderful bit of writing.... it was the ABC of journalism... articulate, had bullocks and a bit of class.

One crucial thing to be remembered here is that McGuinness and Donegal are not in the entertainment business.... Spillane et al are.

The three amigos in the studio have an paid obligation to provide some for of entertainment for the masses but McGuinness and Donegal do not have any obligation to entertain the three amigos.

The did what they felt they had to do in order to achieve as much as they felt they were capable of doing.

In my book.... job well done Donegal..... and I am sure that if Jim McGuinness was relived of his duties in Donegal tomorrow more than one county board chairman would be making a call to Glenties to see how the waters lie.

That's the problem, he will infect some other county with his anti football tripe.
I invested 14 years of my life playing, training and being involved with London. In all that time I probably experienced the taste of victory no more than 6 times, usually in some meaningless league game against Carlow or Kilkenny. What I would have given for someone who had the tactical ability to help us scrape out a few more 0-6 to 0-5 wins to make the whole effort worthwhile.

As an underdog myself, I applaud McGuinness's angle on football and Duggan for defending it... be it biased or not, be it pretty to watch or not. And in the same way that I would have craved just a few more wins with London, so too the Donegal players, the Hegartys , Toyes and Cassidys are glad that McGuinness came along when he did and helped them put an Ulster medal in their pockets.

Further to that, in my time in London week after week Spillane commented in the paper that London shoudn't be in the league because we were hopeless and the games we played in were a waste of time and one-sided... this because we weren't competitive and this from a man who had never seen us play a game in his life.

During that same time in London Jim McGuinness took the opportunity to come and train along with us and provided us with support and the benefit of his knowledge..... albeit only for a few weeks. But at least he had the decency to see what we were all about.

Spillane spouted a few years back about coming over to train London for a few weeks.... Did he? Did he bollix.

He was like the girl I knew way back in my teens...... she talked a good ride.

And I'd happily repeat that to his face.

Oh no, Fernandes mentioned the B-word.

Beckham.

I think you should have gone for Robbie Keane.

Absolutely agree. I think had Fernandes been in control a week or two earlier then we might have got Keane full time. He went for peanuts and despite what he said, somehow I don't think the MLS was a dream come true for him. Not just yet anyway.

With a bit of luck we might pick him up over the winter.

Is it silly season over there?

Gary Neville was saying that Alex Ferguson could not hve won the world cup if he was managing England as there wasn't good enough players available.

Need to fill the space.

Sadly the downside of Neville retiring is that he has more time to express his opinions.

Regarding McClaren. BBC are reporting that his representatives are talking to the Forest board. Surely it would be more constructive if McClaren spoke to them himself.

It's reported that he isn't even in Nottingham today and that the team are training without him.

Maybe there's your problem right there Stevie.

Looks like Steve McClaren will be on the sofa at Sky Sports quite a bit again.

Surely the job of these managers is to work with what they've got and coach the players to play well. These players have all been considered good enough to be given professional contracts by various clubs over and over again.

It's not "Supermarket Sweep" these managers think they have signed up for is it?

Can't understand why anyone would hire someone to clean their house. Lazy f**kers the lot of ye if you ask me.
Unless your disabled in someway I don't see why anybody can't clean their own house.

Away ye go, whilst I shouldn't have to justify it, I work away from home a good bit and I am not too fussed on spending the time I have at home cleaning the four flippin toilets they decided to put in my house.  Who are you to judge people just because they don't see cleaning as a priority in their free time??  I am far from lazy, and on the six days that the cleaner doesn't come, I manage to make sure the house is not a pigsty.
I imagined, being self employed, that you'd support the home services industry, rather than abuse people who choose to use the services on offer.

Ah boo hoo hoo poor you..Of course you need someone to come in and clean all of your 4 bathrooms  :D

I never asked you to justify it either,I don't care what you are anyone else spends their money on but I won't change my opinion that unless you are disabled in someway I think anyone that pays someone to clean their house is just plain lazy.
I don't really care if that opinion bothers you or anyone else.

Funny the opinion here in Spain would be that there are a lot of unskilled immigrants here from South America and the work area that they find employment in is in the cleaning / nanny sector. So it is actually a very important part of the economy here.

Many are employed formally by the people they work for, they pay tax and have paid holidays etc. If people weren't prepared to employ these immigrants, then it would be an extra burden on an already crumbling state. For the most part they are hardworking and honest people, who don't always get the respect they deserve.

Our lady has said to us in the past that we treat her very well and the simple answer to that is that we treat her no differently to anyone else we know. My parents both worked as cleaners, my wife's parents both worked as cleaners and for more than ten years I worked as a cleaner. Why wouldn't I treat her with respect? She is no different from me... the only thing that separates us is a bit of good fortune.

The lady who works for us is in her mid 50s and divorced. She came to Spain 12 years ago, has six kids, 5 of whom still live in Columbia. She shares a small flat here with a daughter (who works for McDonalds) and a granddaughter. She is going back to Columbia for the first time in 6 years this Christmas and is having to pay for her ticket on an installment plan. She regularly pawns items of value in order to get by. Our giving her a job, while it is a luxury for us, makes a huge difference in her life.

Don't get me wrong, it is a pure luxury and there is no place on earth where snobbery is more alive and kicking than here in Madrid. I have seen WAG types strolling around the supermarket pointing at shelves while some pure Peruvian maid, dressed as a maid, pushes the trolley around behind here loading it up as she demands. You'd feel like kicking the WAG up the backside and telling her to have an ounce of respect for the poor woman who gets up every morning with the sole purpose of tending to your every whim..

I've been a house husband for a while now. In our last house I did all the cleaning, ironing cooking everything, but we recently moved to Madrid and here it's normal to have a cleaner.

Some have cleanser who work for them full time and do the cooking shopping etc. When the wife lived here previously she had a full time maid. Now we have a cleaner 4hrs a day five days a week. I have no idea how she manages to find things to do, but she keeps herself busy. I know she's struggling when she starts to hose out the garage.

On a sad note, last week one of her friends (they are both Columbian immigrants) was working at the apartment where she cleaned and was cleaning windows inside when the ladder she was on slipped and the poor woman fell out an open window five floors to her death.

The people she worked for where on holidays and didn't think it necessary to come back for her funeral. She had worked for them for 4 years.

Some people are incredible... and they were only in Germany.. two hours on a plane.

Virtually a whole new team bought now from the team that won promotion aside from Paddy Kenny and Taraabt. We'll see how this one goes. Badly needed re-enforcements and they don't look too bad in the attacking sector... defensively though I would have some real concerns.

Fair play to the new owner, while they didn't spend a fortune on transfer fees they are forking out some pretty big wages.

Evidently Pat's knowledge of football atrocities doesn't stretch to the Corn na nOg Final of 1984. Final score St Coleman's 2-9 Omagh CBS 0-0. My therapist reckons it's time to let go.... but I don't think I'm ready just yet.

That's got Banty scratching his head now.  Like someone said .... So many questions. This has disaster written all over it for POR. You've heard of lame duck presidents, well here's a lame duck manager. Grimley obviously been promised main job in 2013 ...... Or before.

Sadly, hardly a raging improvement on the previous one!
