Not even something glaringly obvious that everyone is aware of and didn't need saying?

Application of the charging rule is v v poor.

Enforcement of the free kick position is worse.

Good to have a couple of signs of life for sure though not sure how indicative of future success those would be. The u15s wouldn't be top level competition.

From an Armagh perspective I think McGeeney has us punching above our weight consistently and that has raised expectations internally and externally  - artificially so if you ask me.

I think he has put us in the mix and we have a punchers chance now with the best teams. What happens next i'm not sure - probably down to whether Rian Turbo and TK can kick on individually whether we can identify a marker to release Forker to the middle third.

I really like Cantwell's style. She's not supposed to be anyone's friend - she's there to stimulate discussion and draw opinions from the guests. I think that she is often being lift hearted or mischievous gets lost in the perception of her.

Armagh are a bit like Cavan in that they've a manager that has run his course probably but when you look out there for the next manager you might be inclined to stick with the devil you know.

I'd strongly disagree there. That's fear rather than making the right call for the right reasons.

There is lots of people out there. You just have to be ambitious - Louth going after Harte; Antrim with McGinley and then Andy McEntee. Down getting Laverty.

Was Gallagher an obvious one to Derry? Manages will travel, Mark Doran going to Clare, Tally to Kerry.

Could they sell a project to Malachy O'Rourke? Oisin McConville? McEntees? Mickey Graham? Enda McGinley? Jim McGuinness? Pat Gilroy?

I think some overthink it. Top managers love the challenge and the chance to make a breakthrough.

Mad the way some people think. What have Andy McEntee, McGinley,  Laverty and a couple more on that list done that would put them ahead of McGeeney?

McQuillan consistently favours favourites / profile. I'm sure it's subconscious...

In all seriousness, Conor Lane is nowhere near the level required at the top level. In this day and age, how do you hop the ball as a result of a fair tackle, how do you stop the game for minutes on end for cramp? His inconsistency in refereeing the tackle is infuriating.

Cawley was grand. He's what Croke Park want in a ref and will get more and more big games. Got calls wrong and got more right. Too sanitised for my liking but, again, he's what the powers want.

We are going to find out today again that Dublin joe is in the Lane category. Miles out of touch from the game in terms of its pace, contact and ability to make split second decisions. He's demonstrated that consistently, including this year.

You'd have to wonder what the leadership with referee development are at when you see McQuillan and Lane getting Quarter finals.

A number of counties in Ulster don't allow established players to play Sigerson any more.

It's good to see an increase in the number of Antrim players being selected for UUJ compared to just a few years ago when Saffron representation was noticeably low. Think there's about 9 on the Freshers panel alone this year and four or five on senior panel. Can only be good for Antrim.

Done a few games already at the college, they have some lads coming through, it must be a magnet for GAA..

Low entry grades and scholarships surely?

Connacht draw makes a shambles of the All Ireland series and highlights the stupidity of the lengths gone to to protect the provincial championships.

The hardest thing to get right is the transition from underage to adult competition because of the diversity in physical development. There is no perfect solution to this. The u18 (or u18.5) argument doesn't stack up either because as generations of neglect has shown us this isn't good enough to keep the majority of players involved until they are ready for adult competitions.

Some observations
I haven't seen any evidence that there is any change in retention rates with the change in age grades (up or down)
Most counties used to cut lads loose after u18 - with an u21 championship tacked on in the winter (waste of time for long term development)
Most counties have (maybe deliberately) put no effort into planning the bridging competitions
Lower down the pathway also needs considered, i.e. the transition from Go Games into competitive grades

Bizarre that we keep going from sub committee to sub committee and from one half baked idea to another. Is there noone planning this in Croke Park who has benchmarked similar sports or run targeted pilots?

Armagh / Re: Club Hurling in Armagh

As fasr as I can see about half of underage hurling fixtures on the Armagh website don't take place every week between postponements and concessions.

Des Mackin (Cullyhanna) played four years as a minor for Armagh.

1990 - played centre back
1991 - played full forward and scored a hattrick in the the first round Vs Down
1992 - played full forward on the team that won Ulster and lost the All Ireland final to a last minute Meath goal
1993 - played full forward and played for the seniors the same year
