Looking forward to seeing how Mayo and Connacht champions Ardnaree get on in this competition. Monaghan champions Rockcorry are the Ulster representatives. Pat Spillane's Club Templenoe cruised to a junior Munster title. St Brigid's Killashee are in action against Curraha (Meath) in the Leinster Club Junior Football Championship Final.

Is there any dates/venues set for semi final games? Anyone know who is representing the UK?

Zulu

John Mitchells are representing Britain. They're good but it seems to be a strong field this year and Templenoe look to be particularly strong.

Rockcorry are pretty strong too. They were senior 3years ago but lost a few lads and dropped 2 levels. They got a few back and they'll be hard to beat

Rossfan

Didn't Curragha bate the Longford bucks yesterday?

That's the thing with the Junior Championship. Every now and again you get a strong club dropping down a level or two who begin to get their act together and are miles ahead of all the rest of the bunch who are really of Junior standard size and don't have a chance.

That does happen and some clubs even make a deliberate decision to drop down if they have a young group etc.  Rockcorry definitely didn't as they had a few lads away who came bavk this year from what I heard and they have a small enough area to pick from.

Templenoe finished top of Division 2 in Kerry this year. They were higher placed than current Munster IFC champions St Mary's!
How are Templenoe JFC when there are five divisions in Kerry?

AZOffaly

Because they never won the Junior Championship. The 5 county league divisions don't necessarily reflect your championship status. There are 4 championship divisions at club level. Novice, Junior, Inter and Senior. You progress up the ladder by winning the championship.

So in Kerry you could technically be playing division 1 league football but still JFC by virtue of the fact your club had never won the JFC before?

AZOffaly

Yep. Or have been relegated to the junior championship again. Certainly that's how I understand it.

This would explain a lot why Kerry teams are so successful at IFC and JFC level on the All Ireland stage. Down's system is a lot more honest than this.

Not sure why you think this is dishonest? It's the same in Offaly. This is a championship, so the representatives come from the relevant championship grade. Does Down seed its championships based on League position? Maybe that's the only real difference. I presume your Junior Champions are the winners of the third tier championship. If you decide that only Division 3 teams can enter that championship, then fair enough, it's just a different way of making up your championships. Kerry aren't doing anything 'dishonest', it's just a different way of deciding who is in their own championship levels.

Completely agree.

How is it dishonest?

Lots of counties have 'unconnected' leagues and championships.
