Don't kow if this has been touched on before. I see Pink Jerseys have become popular among some of the women folk. They are a pet hate of mine. The only thing that identifies you as to what county they are from is the crest and the sponsor name. What is the purpose? Is it for girlies to more so show they are ladies rather than county team followers. For me if you want to wear a jersey, support your county and show you are part of the female race, then buy a inter-county replica Ladies Jersey!

Have been seeing a lot of new Posters on this forum not declare what County they are from. Find it annoying when they use the word we and you are trying to guess what County (Team) they follow. Some have profile pictures or profile names which point you in the right correction.
If you are proud of your county show your colours.
Anyway just a small thing but wrecks my head!

We have had two years in a row where no backdoor team has made the AI semifinals. Is the backdoor a waste of time? Are we just prolonging the agony for teams who are just not good enough?

Time to move on from the Cork/Mayo National League thread.
With no real game untill we meet Leitrim or London on June 24. There wont be much of real note happening. The two extra bonus games against top in the League look very valuable now.
The late Garda Robert McCallion will be fondly remembered by family, friends and colleagues on May 6 when Swinford GAA club hosts a challenge match between Mayo and Donegal to mark the rededication of their all-weather pitch.

With the death of John Egan, who played on the best team (group of players) i ever seen, i decided to have a look on Youtube and get nostalgic. One thing i noticed from this clip is the quick and often use of the Hand-pass. Don't get me wrong the footpassing in the clip is top drawer (when used). You can see the emergence and influence of ball retention through the hand pass. Spillane and quite a few more talk of the lack of Kick passing in the modern game and how a Rugby league 15 could play Football, but with the rule that applied in the late '70's and early '80's maybe the RL side would have had a chance in their time.
Also note the amount of goals scored by the hand, how was it ever allowed!

Shearer is a good call on this list.
Not sure about Cantona. Agreed that he missed out on the French stuff. But he had a successful domestic career. Could always rise to the small occasion!

Mayo / Last Player from unfashionable clubs to play Senior Championship for Mayo?

Was talking to a few lads at work and we were looking at some of the clubs who never get a look in with Senior players at Senior Championship level. Parke KC's Last representative was John O'Boyle in the 80's. While Islandeady's last representative was 'Horse' Sweeney. We reckon Tourmackeady have never had a representative. which comes to my question which club hold the record for the longest without a Mayo senior championship player (if none)?

Not being disrespectful to both counties and Hurling but why is there no stream, comment on this game today. I went through the Hurling section and it is very limited with comments. God, the Premiership gets more comment x 1,000. Why also is Hurling fecked off to a different section where as the main section covers everything else.

That a patient died when their diagnosis was delayed at Tallaght Hospital because x-rays were not reviewed by a consultant radiologist.
That even though George lees political career nixed he still has a job still awaiting him in RTE and people look to him as a hero.
That John O'Donoghue's decision to step down after weeks of media revelations about some 90,000 euros in foreign travel costs since becoming speaker in June 2007 was done without any question of him being penalised.
We have no real political parties. The Green Party are top of the list. Green metaphorically speaking, in that the wool is pulled over their eyes every week by FF.
That Rody Molloy's resignation as director general of FÁS meant he would receive €111,000 severance payments and full pension benefits despite his resignation.
That the builders have been swearing blind that their inside knowledge shows there are a mere 40,000 empty dwellings in the state. Now, an independent academic survey shows it's more than 340,000. One in six dwellings is empty.
That the government has spent €52 million on electronic voting machines and spent €800,000 per annum to store the machines.
That in October 2007, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern became the highest paid Prime Minister in the democratic world at €310,000, more than US President George Bush at €279,000. Fianna Fail Ministers such as Willie O'Dea are paid more than US Vice President Dick Cheney.

That Fianna Fail is determined to save the Anglo Irish bank whatever the cost because it is, to all intents and purposes, the Fianna Fail bank. It was Anglo that bankrolled the wildest developers who in turn pumped millions into Fianna Fail.
That unlike Ireland, Iceland had a referendum and could vote NO to the bank compensation deal. Why should ordinary Icelandic citizens have to pay up for the misdeeds of a few Icelandic bankers, the greed of UK investors, and the spend-it-like-water attitude of the Brown government?
That when you stand back and look at the vested interest of some of the rich ruling elite a very clear picture emerges. The people controlling Banks, Media, Big Business, Finance and Property amount to no more than a hand-full.
That the Catholic Church weave and twist their way day by day still not acknowledging their horrible part in hiding paedophiles.
Pope Benedict XVI's personal preacher on Good Friday likened accusations against the pope and the Catholic church in the sex abuse scandal to "collective violence" suffered by the Jews.
That the Pope sends letters that are read at mass when he has something to say or make apologies.
That we were all conned by the Swine Flu hype, so pharmaceutical companies could make money.
We have Professional Footballers. The untold wealth that all of these possess, totally overpaid for the service they provide.
That we have Big Soccer clubs, all of whom have no connection with the Fans, the players or the area they are supposed to represent.
That Thierry Henry cheated, but more so that Blatter condoned his actions and laughed at the FAI and Ireland.
That we are overloaded with Reality TV - Jordan (Katie Price), Simon Cowell, Big Brother.....etc. untalented nobodies who live of Celebrity Magazines.
That we are overloaded with Celebrity Magazines
That I don't hate Ian Paisley anymore.
That teachers get a day off work for every day they work.
That People bought homes during the boom to make a profit.
That Ireland is a poor country again.

Don't know if this was done before but i was wondering if anyone can think of 'Great' Players out there who won nothing (or very minor honours), and vice versa - a 'Shite' player who ended up by fortune on great teams and won many (coveted) honours!

Judging by the small attendances and pedestrian feel to the two top Division Finals, is it time to just give the top team in each division the Trophies when topping the Division, after all it is called the league. So why does it not do what it says on the can?

Time and time again we see soccer in this country get a hiding, but do we look at the GAA with rose tinted glasses?
Suspensions - The fiaso with Paul Galvin - Suspensions in general, no consistency of punishments, to many administrators and boards. Have a rule, hand out a suspension and have it done with. Amateur players have more to be doing than running and racing to incompetent administrators.
Tickets - Prices, availability, have come to become major issues, People paying professional prices to see Amateur Players. Costing to much to see players who are doing it for the love/pride of their county. This is not the premiership and charging high prices puts unreal expectations on players. Time to bring down the prices, bring in the crowds and make it affordable for families to see their team.
County Board Expenses - County boards are spending hundreds of thousands on County teams, less going to grass roots. Biggest problem with the game is the amount of money going into inter-county teams. Much of this money could be used on camps, facilities, for the growth of the game.
Croke Park - The Monster that needs to be fed for 4/5 months of the year and has been on rations this year (No Dubs, No full house). ALot of empty seats this summer in Croker. Many games could have been played in more local venues. once again excluding the common fan.
Australian Rules Another fiasco, holidays for the board room boys while the player get walloped and the young apprentices get stolen. Time to cut ties. Aussies must be (are) having a good laugh at us.
Fixtures another problem, one team playing 4 games in a month, another team playing no game for two months.
Provincial Politics Kerry and Cork make sure they are seeded so that they are not involved in knockout AI competition until August.

Well today is D-day and all you provisional driving licence holders will have to cycle or take a Taxi to work. The days of Freedom are over. €1,000 fine for anyone caught on their own. Have fun hanging around for a Full Licence holder to acompany you when going to town or even to practice for your test. And if you are a person with no family members or friends with a licence then it's gonna cost you a bomb on driving lessons as this will be your only way to drive your car. Rumour has it that testers will be getting stricter, so don't think this will be for a short while. And by the way have a nice day

Any Mayo Lads/Lassies see this weeks Mayo Echo Edition? Dodgy stuff, it alledges that there is a (Gay) Pervert den along Lough Lannagh in Castlebar. The Edition includes a Picture of a man you is alledged to be involved in the Pervertion, along with a Picture (including Number plate) of a Jeep in the facinity. The Question here; Are these Pictures and allegations allowed in our free speech world? The tone of the article does little for the Gay community in Castlebar and groups them in the (archaic) Pervert cathgory.

Not to put down one of our own but i find Kilinascully very poor TV. I realise that it is a family show but there seems to be no jokes with any substance, in fact there seems to be no Jokes full-stop. It has replaced Glenroe as RTE TV viewing on a Sunday before the News and has settled neatly into the (boring) comfort zone that series had.
