QuoteThe Israeli foreign minister denied any connection to Israel.

Has he no connection with Israel at all? How did he get the job?

He's from Moldova. Anyone can get in. Except Palestinians, obviously. It's a bit like Norn Irn in the good old days.

Is that one of the Mossad Dubai assassins travelling on a fake Irish passport ?
The Israeli foreign minister denied any connection to Israel. You can see why.

I seem to remember Meath winning things back in the good old days. Where did it all go wrong, Hardy ?
Too much of the good life?

There was a thread called "three things you would change about football". Someone posted this

1) get rid of the ball

2) introduce a smaller ball

3) introduce hurls.

There was also this from Hardyarse

I admire Armagh's football and the childish spewings of this nauseating p***k wouldn't have the slightest effect on my opinion.  I usually don't read his posts, in the same way that I would decline if a wino with running lip sores offered me a swig from his bottle. But every thread I visit this morning , this irritating creep is there chirruping inanities, bleating about Armagh's win as if he had something to do with it or somehow gained some reflected glory from it and gratuitously spewing bile at just about everyone else.  There's no analysis, no talk about the game, the tactics, the decisive events, the form of players or anything that would indicate the slightest interest in the game itself, other than to use it as a vehicle to haul his own insecurities and inadequacies out here in front of us all when we'd rather not look, thanks all the same.

I was going through my files there today and I came across the following correspondence from 2003. It brought a tear to my eye. The All-Ireland was on September 28th as I recall.

Jesus, 20 years is hard to believe. And most of them were FF. Even worse.

Mayo have such a powerful effect on me. Green and red and one day they are going to nail the effin' thing.

I was over on Sgaoi, Eilean a Cheo a few years ago and asked the woman in the local shop if there was any chance of seeing a shinty match and the next thing I knew I was on the team bus with the lads going to Glen Urqhart . An unforgettable day from the biscuit tin that made the rounds at half time to the many rounds after the match.

sorry lads should have phrased that better at the moment the managers involved in managing the senior teams in connacht
2 have won the Ai a senior championship as managers
1 has won the Ai  senior championship twice as a player
1 has Coached an Ai winning senior team
1 has managed an Ai winning minor team

I remember a very patronising Sunday tribune article from Ross Kyarr in 1996 the day Mayo beat Kerry predicting that a Connacht team might make the all-Ireland final within 10 years. It was more like 10 hours. And the following 10 years had a good few all-Irelands at various grades.

Really pleased for Clare, and even more pleased that I can say that after the rancour of 1998. Death to the Big Three! ;D

seconded. Although to be fair Tipp don't really qualify as select these days.

You would miss GalteeMountainBoy.  Tipp in an all-Ireland final  and everything.

I'd say Kerry would swap 6 AIF  appearances in a row for just one final win over Tyrone.   ;D

Mayo should be awarded the All-Ireland posthumously.

Otherwise I think Cork will win. Kerry seem to be overleveraged.

Very evocative. The hurlers of Waterford did so much over the last few years. It's a real pity they didn't win the big prize but I think they gained everybody's respect.

I think it's going to be the second most emotional future all-Ireland win. Mayo will be the first.

In the spirit of revisionism Seaf, what have they actually done? (When compared to our own county?) Why should they have more respect tham Galway? (Or Mayo footballers for e.g.) League record over the past 10 years is rather similar and Galway's c'ship record is slightly superior - we reached 2 finals and weren't beaten heavily in either. Yes, they won a few Munster finals, but provincial titles count for little in my mind. Sure, they played a lot of exciting matches, but they weren't the only ones. Believe me, this isn't an anti-Waterford sour grapes rant, I was at last year's AI final and was shouting like mad for them, but in my book moral victors = gallant losers = losers.

I repeat, I've nothing whatsoever against Waterford but getting a little tired of the whole sympathy, 'everyone's second favourite team' lark. Plenty of other teams entitled to sympathy also (Dub footballers / hurlers?)

Dub hurlers maybe but how many people in Dublin care about hurling? I'm not pushed about the footballers. I suppose it's a personal thing. Galway hurling's long 22 years of failure is due to county board ineptitude imo. They could have gone into Leinster a long time ago and would have won a few all-Irelands if the honchos cared more about the team than their own egos.

Laois, Westmeath , wicklow, Kildare etc leave me cold. I would like to see Fermanagh winning something. Waterford have a bit of romance. I don't know what it is.

I was watching the Ashes on sunday and the England fans have a dose of Mayo about them. Even at 546 runs up there were loads of people who thought they would throw it away with Australia in the Meath role.   Mayo is a mental thing more than anything else.  Fascinating to watch. So much passion but so little confidence in the last 5 minutes.
