GAA Discussion / Re: Tyrone 2014
August 27, 2013, 10:46:36 PM
Without winning significant (although we'd take a McKenna cup in Armagh) silverware Tyrone have had a decent season.

Next year may see the likes of O'Neill and Gormley retire and despite some good young players coming through there doesn't seem to be enough to suggest they will improve any more in 2014.

Are Tyrone fans happy that Mickey is doing the best anyone can do or does it reach a stage like Pete McGrath in Down where a successful manager stays on too long?

Heard Jarlath Burns on radio after Galway game saying great progress had been made by Armagh this year and Grimley would continue it for 2014.

Easily beaten by the 2 half decent teams we played this year, we don't have players of 2002 era but there should be enough talent to be aiming for QFS at least. Decision making on side line seems to be non existent and all out attacking policy flies in the face of the way football has went over the last 10 years.

Surely a song to the tune of The Boxer should be about Conor Gormley?

GAA Discussion / Justin McNulty stepping down

Word is McNulty not staying in Laois next year. Was he under pressure as he seemed to be doing an ok job with what he had to work with?

Why would Everton sell Felliani for less than the 23mill in the clause which has expired?

Baines would be more difficult to replace than Felliani.

GAA Discussion / Re: Time for Joe to go??

No EC you're not, nothing wrong with people having strong opinions but focus needs to be on the game rather than egos.

Little attention paid to some of the great scores in Tyrone/Mon game from McMahon,McManus etc, instead it is the Joe show. RTE don't care as ratings will be up.

Soccer has a better balance where Giles/Dunphy can give their views but game is still analysed properly.

Who has written this statement? is it from the county board?

Surely pointing out that they are the only county who spoke out against the black card (the panacea of all problems!) doesn't do them any favours.

Obviously Tyrone are a bit stung by media comments painting them as the bad guys but this statement dispels none of the accusations levelled at them.

A bit of siege mentality does no harm in a dressing room but Tyrone need to do their talking on the pitch.

If Mayo get past Tyrone would they prefer Dublin or Kerry in the final?

Also most neutrals in country rooting for Mayo, only downside would be looking at Enda Kenny weaseling his way into every photo opportunity!

After the great service he gave St Kevins surely no one should question his right to move back to is former club.

The Hype in Mayo will have kicked in since the Donegal game. Players and management will be greatly affected by this hype as many have not encountered this before in their football career. Mayo do not deal with being favourites going into a match, being favourites in every game in Connacht and the quarter final greatly affected the teams performance.

After nearly 3 years under Horan, Mayo still have no marquee forward.  Mayo's scores so far have been spread all over the team (squad). So when the going gets tough we don't have that one forward you go to who will pull the game out of the bag.
That means both teams have no marque forward, Tyrone have been relying on a spread of scorers all year ( Cavanagh the main threat over last 2 games). In fact with Cooper playing further outfield all 4 remaining teams have no marquee forward this year, Cluxton being close to top scorer for Dubs this year.

Agree that Mayos biggest problem will be playing down hype. A Mayo performance even at 80% of Sundays level will beat Tyrone unless Tyrone somehow pull a performance from memory that they have not hinted at all year

GAA Discussion / Re: ULSTER DOMINANCE
July 28, 2013, 11:27:57 PM
Going off on a tangent Cavan are now the 8th Ulster team to reach a QF.Only 6 out of 11 from Leinster have.

Ulster have provided 20 out of the 52 QFinalists who have came through the back door which is the best of any province relative to its size.

GAA Discussion / Re: Oisin

Only when he quit playing for Armagh did we really appreciate how good he was.For years if Armagh had a free or 45 it was taken for granted it would be a score.

AI semi final replay with Kerry stands out. Oisin was on fire that day, practically carried the Armagh team that day and only for a great O'Keefe save from him Armagh could have won.

Tragic News. Just reading an interview with him in todays Impartial Reporter, after last weeks semi final win for Lisnaskea where he is looking forward to the final.Condolences to his family.

GAA Discussion / Re: Gilroy is Gone
September 05, 2012, 09:56:29 PM
When you consider the mess Dublin were in after getting hidings in 2008 and 2009 Gilroy did a great job of getting to 3 AI semi-finals and winning Sam last year.

Dublins success, a bit like Donegal was built more on perspiration than inspiration. It would be hard for Gilroy to have went to the well for another year.

Dublin seem to have a conveyor belt of talent coming through so the next manager will have plenty to work with over the next few years.
