Quote from: Blackandblue2 on April 22, 2024, 10:37:57 AMSo whats the chances this weekend? Anyone giving us a punchers chance?

I see the game isn't being televised? On BBc or Rte?
Has this every happened for a Ulster semi final before, why would all games including prelim be on and not the Semi final?

Is it expected to be 1 sided and not worth the viewing?

GAAGO are showing it

Surely that can't continue.

I wonder how far away the next 'similiar' primary school is to each of them?

Is there not an enrolment figure in primary and once it dips below that, there needs to be an assessment down on it.

Politicians won't make good decisions - like hospitals etc.

By 13 pupils is very low.

That's kids from P1 to P7, so at best two per age group and a classroom size of 4 or 5 for each teacher...

Is there not a £300 fine for not fielding?

Ah the aul hindsight and replays, multiple angles and so on, people hate VAR in the PL but call for it here!

Gavin needs to throw stuff out there otherwise he'll be not getting a wee earner

Correct on that point.

Both "square balls" in the Clare v Limerick game are really hard for umpires to call in real time, especially the second one as no doubt the umpire on the far post had his eyes on Hegarty coming in that side so when his shot hits off the post and pops up for Gillane, he's just turned his point of focus toward Gillane who's there in the square, but so is the ball.

First one, fullback needs to take a bit of the blame, rule no 1 of fullback play is that absolutely no one gets near that high ball dropping down, Cleary really should have been driving Gillane away from it, making sure he doesn't even get a chance to flick the hurl at it. Too weak for my liking there.
There's no way Brian Lohan lets Gillane get a touch on that in his day.

Clare will be kicking themselves as the other Limerick goal was very saveable, the lad didn't connect at all well with it and it bounced twice before hitting the net.

Glad that Everton got the win yesterday, but VAR did indeed screw Forest in at least one penalty, maybe two.

It'll be interesting the Premier League and PGMOL response to their Twitter tirade.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on April 19, 2024, 11:41:47 AMKlopp was a huge success and took a very under achieving Liverpool to a title and many cups.

His style and way he handled the press was refreshing and the PL will missing a huge character and be worse for it.

God help whoever comes in and replaces him, they'll be on to a hiding to nothing if history is to repeat itself and thats not using Fergie's example, bar Bayern its replicated in most big clubs when a huge personality leaves, though the likes of Madrid get rid fairly quick of managers that don't bring immediate success.

Ah here, Liverpool aren't like any other club, they stick by their manager no matter what.

So at the the boiler there are two pumps one for the rads and the other for heating the water.

If the spindle isn't spinning then the motor isn't working and that was the case, I said can ya fix it? nope, its a throw away world, ya need a new one

The plumber said that the water should still warm up though, it isn't, anyways I've been doing the Wim Hof experience for the last 3 days!

Did the pump look like this?

I've three of these feckers in the house and one will need replaced.

There's isolating valves either side of it, so toying with the idea of doing it myself, but as they're in the hotpress and don't want to make a balls of it.

That's the one, I've two, but that they are in the garage...

Unscrewing that copper nut in the middle let me know that it wasn't spinning inside, after that I was stumped

I've a mate that loves all that DIY stuff, the easy stuff I've no problems with, But I know if I try and remove that and replace it there will be problems, pipes will need replaced and threads will be fecked and whatever else would go wrong will, with me.

Turn that pump on and go to the garage.
Give it a gentle tap with a hammer to see if that frees it up and if that doesn't work there's a wee red dial for the speed settings, it's normally set to the middle speed, but change it to the top speed and that might free it up as well.

It'll still need replace one way or the other, but at least you'll get some hot water for a day or two

Action kicks off this weekend in both Leinster and Munster;

Clare v Limerick
Cork v Waterford

Have Limerick woken from their slumber to turn over Clare, the League champions?

I believe theres quite a large injury list emanating from the Limerick camp, so some big gaps to fill whereas Clare are sticking by and large to the league campaign team with a very strong bench including a lot of lads with serious experience if needing to be called upon.

I still have it in my head Limerick will click and Clare minus a flying tony kelly will come up short in this game...

Waterford are an enigma, they don't seem to have bought into Davy's ultra defensive strategy and that's their downfall this weekend.
Cork need to be attacked as their biggest weakness is the FB line, Coleman is now fully fit and back in a strong half back line, Cork will win this well IMO but there'll be a few rude awakenings in the weeks ahead as the more powerful, direct teams expose them.

Leinster

KK v Antrim

Expected stroll in Nowlan park for the cats, but Antrim have parachuted in a lot of lads who didn't commit to the league, quality hurlers alright but this game won't be the making or breaking of Antrims championship campaign.

Wex v Dub.
Dublin always seem to fare well against Wexford and I'd expect the same here, although this game really could decide who gets the third berth in Leinster and could be feisty enough.
Rossiter will be wanting some blood and thunder from his team, This could be one of the better games over the weekend

Gal v Carlow,
Galway to ease into action but it won't be plain sailing although Carlow were well beat by Laois in the league final in a game that didn't really matter, but all the same.

Emi Martinez is some spud, the type of player any team would want in their ranks but the opposition and their fans absolutely hate.

With him being an Argie certainly doesn't help to endear himself to the British red tops and their on-line equivalents with football 365 calling him "the pricks p***k"

He's a winner though and doesn't give two shíts how he does it, every team needs a Martinez.  ;D

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on April 18, 2024, 04:45:00 PM"It's not just the removal of the helmet though, it's if you've to stop the play to allow a physio on at all."

If I have to stop play.

Though if a physio comes on and can administer a spray while play continues I'm happy with that, should I have to blow the whistle and the player requires assistance they have to go off, now seeing as it was my first real go at it, I waved the player on rather than waiting for a break, he was genuinely hurt from a tackle from the other team, its a bit unfair surely to disadvantage them twice?

But is that not wrong, going by them new rules?

Completely

Bitta common sense needs to be applied and while I'm not against following it to the letter, sometimes it's actually counterproductive and not serving the reason why it's introduced

The reason for the new rules is to prevent cynical playacting,  faking injuries to slow the game down like nicky quaid getting something in his eye last year.
If its genuine then it's harsh but if they're acting the bollox then I'd make them wait for the next break in play.

This rule was apparently amended during the week, to include the goalkeeper! Doesn't make much sense.

I said that a few weeks ago that to circumvent all this is for the keeper to go down. The rule didn't mention keepers.

I'd make it another player must stand i  goals and team down to 14 players until next break in play.

That is what is meant to happen even if there's a penalty to be taken, if the keeper receives treatment from the incident that led to the penalty being given they too need to leave the field of play until the next break in play or in MR2's case when he waves him back on...

 ;D

Those frankies never were ones for following the rules.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on April 18, 2024, 11:21:34 AMI know it's easy to say the best team lost but the concentration levels from Madrid were amazing. And then when it was needed they had lads like Nacho and especially Rudiger jumping in.

City tried to pull them around but it's not like Palace and their low block, these boys were not for turning. Also in the extra time Real did fire a few warning shots to keep City honest.

Truth be told I don't like Pep as he just seems like a flase hoor.

To defend against that quality of player under that much pressure for so long and to not make any mistakes is hugely impressive. Carvahal and Rudiger are boys you would want in the trenches - they'd do well in GAA them boys. City were better but like someone said they didn't really create the chances.

The thing as well is City can completely change the type of threat they have -e.g. Doku on for Grealish going from someone who cuts inside to sheer pace - yet they still dealt with it.

Haaland was non existent too. Absolutely non existent.

Didn't watch it, listened to some on way back from game, but how many balls were played into Haaland, is he, this year getting the same support? Still joint top in the league, I know some clubs would love a 20 plus striker lol

Games against the better teams don't suit him, I think last night you could count on one hand how many times he touched the ball, Alvarez came on and was more involved straight away.

Flat track bully I think is the term needed for him

And Eoin Cody, and Conor Whelan and half the Cork team and Cathal Barrett and I could go on...

If the defender isn't tackling lawfully which is the first issue being ignored by all and sundry then of course players are going to engineer fouls out if it.
Fix the first problem and then other problems like overcarrying, head high tackling, dipping in the tackle go away.

Did a game last night, pitch conditions meant that lads would be losing their balance and slipping or sliding in and out of tackles, granted high summer (whenever that is) pitches firm up and that gives me less hassle.

Lads were looking frees for sliding in to collect the ball saying they were pushed, they initiated the slide first, play on, due to the heavy conditions players were being 'held' up more, again, no obvious free like arms being pulled shirts being pulled and so on, if he doesn't release the ball he'll over carry it.

In these incidents the cry is there all over him! There could be 15 players all over him, if there is no actual free being committed then play on.

As you say Johnny, get the first free, it depends on your interpretation of that first free lol

As frustrating as it is, sometimes there is not that obvious free so playing on is the best option

Not all tackles are frees, clear as mud

Did my first game with the new rule that if a physio comes on to the pitch and player removes his helmet he has to leave the pitch and can only come on in a break of play.. They had no idea!!

The following is the guidance provided,  injured players.  We should communicated the guidance to medical and management teams if they enquire about implementation.

1. If a Doctor or \physio comes on to the field of play to treat or access an injured player we will not be instructing them to leave the field of play.
2. We will allow treatment on the field of play - however if this necessitates a stoppage in play, this will,
            (a) be added on to the allotted time and
            (b) any player treated on the field of play will need to come off and return to the field of play at the centre point of the sideline, after a break in play.
3. Just to inform you also after the meeting of Central Council the goalkeepers will be treated the same as every other player. In other words he also has to leave the field and come back on at the centre point of the sideline.
  4.  This also applies to removal of the helmet in hurling.

It's not just the removal of the helmet though, it's if you've to stop the play to allow a physio on at all.
