been reading the points on the paul galvin story...just had to add my own thoughts as its been def topic of the week in gaa circles...so just a few simple Q&A i had for myself...
Firstly is paul galvin a great footballler ? def he is an would be the 1st man on any managers team sheet an i wish we had a few like him playing for my own club and county.
Does he have a good disciplinary record ? By all accounts he does have a good record an considering he is a dual player then he must be fairly clocking up some game time over the years...but now to the meaty issue...
Did he knock the notebook from the referee's hand which is considered assult ? YES HE DID
Did he have verbals with the referee ? YES HE DID
Did he run 20-30 feet to verbally remonstrate with a linesman ? YES HE DID
Did he strike a player (admitedly from his own team) prior to leaving field ? YES HE DID
Do the 1st couple of points in relation to how good a player he was and his track record have any bearing on the case...I do not think they should.
The points in relation to his job etc do not matter a single jot an have no bearing on the subject whatsoever an should not be tolerated in this or any other forum....
No matter is said though we cannot IGNORE the fact that he DID knock the notebook, give verbals an struck / shoved a fellow player after receving a 2nd yellow card. The in an outs of the justification of the 2nd yellow have no bearing on the subject either...If were all being honest we would not accept that behaviour from an U-12 player in our own club..The 6 months sentence i believe is wholly justified.
