One thing that I noticed watching the 49ers game at the weekend was for the first two TD's scored against them the Defense in Fantasy football had points deducted. 1st TD was a blocked punt, special teams which is still the Offense and the 2nd TD was an interception thrown by Kap. Found that strange as Kap got the points deducted against him for the pick and the Eagles defense got credited for both. I would have thought that the defense would have to be on the field to have the points deducted from them.

I just checked on this. The Niners conceded 21 points, but were awarded  2 points for conceding 14-20 points. That means not all scores were counted against them. So I had a look. The Eagles scored 3 TDs, 1 by the Defence, as you said from an INT. The others were 2 Special Teams TDs. A Punt Block and a punt return. That accounts for 14 points, and thus the points they were awarded.

When you were looking at it, maybe it deducted the points and was then corrected afterwards?

Quite possible, I didn't go back and check on Monday. On the special teams being the defense, are the awarded points for a kick return or field goal? Technically they are the special team also. Anyway, points were given back so I'm happy the pick wasn't awarded against them.

AZOffaly

Yep, for returns. Not for field goals though. The kicker's the only lad that gets points for Field Goals.

The scoring for DEF/ST is

Defense/Special Teams   League Value
Sack   2
Interception   2
Fumble Recovery   2
Touchdown   8
Safety   2

Points Allowed 7-13 points   7
Points Allowed 14-20 points   2
Points Allowed 21-27 points   0
Points Allowed 28-34 points   -1

OK, we're at the 1/3 point of the season now, with 5 weeks complete, so in lieu of a weekly matchup report, lets look at the standings in each championship, and see how the early season form has panned out. We'll also take a look at the team of the season so far....

First of all in the Montana Superbowl Championship competition, the picture is as follows.

The Vince Lombardi Division is headed by Faithful Turfmen 'B', with a 5-0 record, which is good enough for the #1 overall seed at the moment if the playoffs were to begin today. Unfortunately they don't. Hot on the Turfmen's heels are the reigning Champion Coolera Bears, on 4-1 and behind them come the 3-2 Savage Bears. 4th place in the Lombardi Division is the 2-3 hegan's clowns while the 1-4 Ruthless Rossies bring up the rear.

The George Halas Division is led by the 3-2 Oraisteach's Browns, with a logjam of 2-3 teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in this division as the Smackdown Clowns, New York Jets VIII and Colm O'MEaloid are only seperated by points scored. Bottom of the division is the 1-4 Ballyhaise Bills.

Overall, the Coolera Bears are the top scorers so far, with 729 points, while the hegan's clowns are the low scorers with 528.79.

If the playoffs were to start today, the #1 Overall Seed would be the Faithful Turfmen 'B', and they would face the #4 Savage Bears, also from the Lombardi Division. The #2 seed would be Oraisteach's Browns, by virtue of leading the Halas division, and they would play the #3 Coolera Bears.

Standings.

In the Walter Payton 'B' Championship, we don't currently have an unbeaten team, but we have 3 4-1 records in the early going. In the John Madden Division, The Faithful Turfmen lead the way on 4-1, on points scored, from the Galway Bay Tribesmen who also sit on 4-1. The Crossmaglen Hitmen on 3-2 are in 3rd place, ahead of the 1-4 Bear You To Shreds. Bringing up the rear are the winless 0-5 Gary O'Neill's Team.

The George Allen Division is very tight, led by L'Esprit de Biff on 4-1, followed closely by Rehab is 4 Quitters on 3-2. Behind the Quitters 3 teams are vying for 3rd place, all locked on 2-3. They are Red Hand Helmets, Big Apple Orchards and M4S Someday.

Top scorers are the 3-2 Hitmen with 732.19 points, while bottom of the pile is Gary O'Neill's Team with 457.92

If the playoffs started today, the #1 Seed would be the Faithful Turfmen, and they would face the #4 Crossmaglen Hitmen. #2 Seed, and Allen Division leader, L'Esprit de Biff would face #3 Galway Bay Tribesmen.

Finally, the Jerry Rice 'C' Championship is keenly contested. This is a 12 team league, which makes points even harder to come by, and 9 of the 12 teams are within 2 games of the overall lead. We have 4 teams at 4-1, 2 at 3-2 and 3 at 2-3. Leading the way, and leading the Andy Reid Division is the #1 seed, David's Superb Team and his 4-1 record. Behind him on points scored is Troy PolaMAYO in second place. Third is the 3-2 Antrim89 squad, while Mayo Monsters and their 2-3 record are 4th in the division. 5th is ronan's team at 1-4 while the hapless Insane Clowney Posse bring up the rear, winless for the season so far.

In the Bill Belichick Division, the leader is 4-1 Sean's Team, ahead on points scored of 2nd Place Oakleaf Dolphins. 3rd position is the 3-2 UShane's Bolts while Faithful Turfmen C are in 4th with a 2-3 record. 5th place, also on 2-3 is FermanaghandSam while the bottom of the division is held up by Geezers49ers on 1-4.

Top Scorers in this 12 team league is David's Superb Team with 661.96, while Insane Clowney Posse are lowest scorers with 486.10.

In the hypothetical playoff scenario for today, the #1 seed would be David's Superb Team, versus #4, division rival, Troy PolaMAYO. #2 seed would be the Belichick leader Sean's Team, and they would face fellow Belichick team #3 Oakleaf Dolphins.

Finally for this week, the team of the season so far is

QB - Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts - 107.59 Points

The Stanford man has been huge so far this season, and holds over 20 points of a lead from the second place QB, Peyton Manning, albeit with a game more played. Luck has fired 14 Touchdown passes so far, as against 6 interceptions for the 3-2 Colts. He has 1617 passing yards, and has also managed to rush for 65 yards and two touchdowns. He might be ready to take over from Peyton, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees as the Fantasy MVP for Quarterbacks.

RB1 - DeMarco Murray Dallas Cowboys - 89.70 Points

Murray was highly touted before the season began, but the worry was that the Cowboys, let by Tony Romo, would throw the ball left right and centre, and ignore the ground aspect of the game.  That hasn't materialised, however, and Murray has at least 22 carries in each of the 5 games played so far. He's gained 670 yards on the ground at a clip of over 5 yards per carry and has found the endzone 5 times.  The one knock on the ex-Sooner is a slight case of fumlitis, and he has lost 4 fumbles this season so far, which he will have to eliminate as a costly fumble could see him lose the confidence of the coaches. In a PPR league, normally the best backs catch a lot of passes, see Ray Rice, LeSean McCoy etc, however Murray is not that sort of a scat back. He has been part of the passing game, normally as a dump off checkdown option, but his 15 receptions for 124 yards don't put him in the traditional PPR back category. All points are useful however and so far Murray has been an integral reason for the Cowboys 4-1 start.

RB2 - Matt Forte Chicago Bears 75.90 Points

After week 3 of the season Forte owners had to be getting restless as the Chicago Bears feature back was not producing. A good week 1 was followed by 2 weeks of below par production for a PPR top 5 back, which is where most people would have seen Forte. However the last 2 weeks have seen improvement, and he finds himself as the #2 ranked back at the 1/3 point of our season. His 319 yards on 82 carries ( 3.89 per carry) with no touchdowns is not stellar, but Forte always has historically contributed heavily in the passing game in PPR and this year it is what has driven his value this high. 36 receptions for 299 yards and a touchdown evidently make up a big chunk of his 75.90 points to date.

WR1 - Antonio Brown Pittsburgh Steelers 96.79 Points

There have been some outstanding performances to date at the WR position, and no one has been better than the 5th year man out of Central Michigan, who has blossomed into Ben Roethlisbergers favourite and most dangerous target. Brown has been thrown the ball 51 times through 5 games, just over 10 a game, which you want from a #1 receiver. Even more important, he has hauled in 34 of those passes for 511 yards and 5 Touchdowns. He is on a pace for 163 targets, 108 catches, 1635 Yards and 16 Touchdowns. That would be 295 points (excluding bonuses) for the year in our league. That would make for a few very happy owners.

WR2 - Jordy Nelson Green Bay Packers 95.25 Points

Hot on Brown's heels is another Fantasy reliable this past few years, Packers wideout Jordy Nelson. Nelson and Cobb form a dangerous one two combination that Aaron Rodgers is well capable of using. Nelson has been the outstanding performer of the two thus far, but I think it's fair to say that Cobb has probably contributed to Nelson's somewhat erratic performance when viewed week by week. Week 1 saw 9 catches for 83 yards, week 2 was 9 for 209 yards, then week 3 was just 5 for 59, week 4 was 10 for 108, while week 5 just had 1 catch, albeit for 66 yards and a TD. His overall stats are impressive,  34 catches for 524 yards and 4 TDs, but I think the K-State alum will have weeks where Cobb or Lacy at RB are more productive.

TE - Jimmy Graham New Orleans Saints 75.80 Points

It's been a good season for Tight Ends so far, with 6 of them over 60 points through 5 games, but Jimmy Graham is still the leader of the pack. In fairness, Julius Thomas of Denver will probably overtake him this week as Graham has a game more played and is on a week 6 bye, but Graham's numbers put him at the head of the queue for now. Brees loves throwing to Graham anywhere on the field, and his 34 catches (the same number as Nelson and Brown our top 2 WRs) attests to that. He has found the endzone 3 times and has 376 yards receiving, which is better than 10 yards per catch. That's a big stat for a TE. Thomas is a TD machine in Denver, but Graham is more of a consistent target and that's how he is keeping his nose ahead. He may be overtaken by a couple of TEs before the season is over, but few would bet against the 4th year Miami player from being ahead when all is said and done.

WR/TE/RB - Julio Jones Atlanta Falcons WR 92.60 Points

7 out of the top 10 players in our Flex position are Wide Receivers and the third of them, Julio Jones, fills our Flex spot ahead of Maclin, Cobb, Bryant and Smith. The Alabama man has well and truly taken the #1 mantle in Atlanta from Roddy White at this stage, and is Matt Ryan's favourite target by a mile. Jones has 57 targets, 40 receptions, 552 yards and 3 TDs. Actually, his TD count is a slight worry, as if you take the week 3 shellacking of the Buccs out of the equation, he would only have 1 TD on the other 4 games. The Falcons are 2-3 in a poor division, and will need Jones to get a few more scores to push the win total north.

K - Stephen Gostkowski New England Patriots 57 Points

Several kickers are averaging more than 10 points a game, which is a good mark for the boot, but Gostkowski is leading the field with an impressive 57 points thus far, an average of 11.4 for his 5 games. The 2006 4th round pick from Memphis hasn't missed a kick all year so far, and has made 13 in a row, including 6 of over 40 yards. His owners will hope it isn't unlucky 13, but so far Gostkowski has been money for the Pats.

DEF - Philadelphia Eagles 96 Points

Team Defense/Special Teams can quite often be a very heavy scorer on a week by week basis, but it can vary hugely depending on matchups, so it's hard to find and settle on one team, which is why a lot of movement happens on that position. Amidst all this turmoil, the Eagles stand out as the best so far, with a 14 point lead over the Buffalo Bills. A lot of the reason for this lead is their propensity to score on the defense and special teams, and this week they became the first team in history to score on a kick return and turnover return two weeks in a row. A lot has been made of the Chip Kelly offense, but it's the D's scoring that are the main reason the Eagles are 4-1 this far into the season. So far the Eagles have allowed 132 Points, which is a relatively high total for 5 games,  over 25 PPG, but they have 11 sacks, 3 interceptions, 5 Fumble Recoveries, 5 Touchdowns, 3 blocked kicks and 2 return TDs. An unreal performance in hoovering up points so far.

DB1 - Jonathan Joseph Houston Texans CB 51 Points

The IDP (Individual Defensive Players) can quite often be the winning and losing of games in our leagues as there are almost always hidden gems that sparkle each week. If you can hit on one of them you can often times win your game on the strength of that alone. Our outstanding DB is league standout Jonathan Joseph, the South Carolina Gamecock in his 4th season in Houston. Joseph plays at corner for the Texans, and can see a lot of action there.. Thus far he has amassed 32 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and  only 3 passes successfully defended, which implies he is a better tackler than a cover man. Still 51 points is not to be sneered at, and places him at the top of our DB charts.

DB2 - Harrison Smith Minnesota Vikings S 50 Points

Coming into the season, Smith was earmarked as one of the top prospects in IDP, and it has turned out that way so far. Unfortunately for his owners he got a nasty injury in the last game and is currently in a walking boot, and probably out for at least one week, but up until then his performances have been very good. He was drafted in 2012 out of Notre Dame, and has been a very good addition to the Vikings defensive backfield. He can lay the lumber on a runner, but really comes into his own trying to suck in errant passes. This year Smith has 22 tackles, 1 sack and 3 Interceptions, including 1 Pick 6. He has also defended 6 passes successfully.

DL - JJ Watt Houston Texans DE 47.05 Points

In news that will surprise absolutely nobody, JJ Watt, the big Defensive End for the Texans, is the outstanding defensive lineman of the year so far in our league. He has actually caught a TD pass this year, but as a defender he is terrorising QBs and running backs up and down the league. His sack stats are not immense, but his disruptive influence cannot be measured, and he is contributing to his fantasy teams in a very meaningful and measurable way as well. He has 13 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 touchdown, 3 passes defended and 1 blocked kick. Just another eventful year for perhaps the best real life player in the league.

LB - Lavonte David Tampa Bay Buccaneers 55 Points

The Buccs are 1-4, but have been competitive in most of them apart from the Thursday night nightmare against Atlanta. A big part of their competitiveness has been the play of David in the Linebacker slot. David is a 2012 2nd round big from Nebraska, and the husker has been a dominant force on the Buccs linebacking corps. He has a huge 41 tackles, including 2 forced fumbles. He's recovered a fumble himself also, and has added 2 passes defended for good measure. Nothing flashy here, but such a high tackle count is point harvesting go leor in our Fantasy Leagues.

3rd highest point total in the games this weekend - and I still lose - I'm cursed  >:(

Muck Savage

The spirit of the '94 hurlers and Seamus Darby combined to come back for 10 pts down with 1 min left for beat you AZ last night and knock you off that perch. Looked like it was all over until my home club had the pick 6 inside the last min to win by 0.5pt. Hope now that there are not any adjustments over the next day or two.
At least it was a fell BIFFO that broke the win streak :)
Mad win

I'll tell you what it's a crazy season for injuries. Moreno is out for the year and Cruz both with knee injuries. Ingram still not back.

Really need a TE in the Jerry Rice BB league - willing to let Eric Decker or Trent richardson go
