General discussion / Re: Death Notices

Scottish rugby commentator Bill McLarron died today aged 86. He was the voice of rugby on the BBC for a generation.

Great old fashioned commentator. I always laughed when he used to say "and there's a wee bit of argie- bargie going on!" as half a dozen 20 stone rugby player knocked 7 bells out of each other.

THere used to be a Barony League in Down yeatrs ago. It was played at the start of the season and was used as a trial for the County. 4 teams were picked from clubs in Mourne, Iveagh, Lecale and somewhere else and they played each other.

It's worth trying again as long as playing in the SFC doesn't prevent a lad playing JFC for his club.

Is there a meeting tonight? McNamara really has no choice but it's a bad state of affairs.

I hazard to guess its a majority or significant minority of Irish people who don't like the civil service. But its actually delinquent to be a member of a group not distained theses days, we hate the civil service, the bankers, the builders, the taxi drivers, the politicians, the publicans, the clergy, the dentists, the retailers, the unemployed, the students, the farmers, the unions, FAS, the GPA etc. etc.

You're right! Who do most people not hate? The immigrants? The Protestants? The Jews?

I think this is all brilliant. Hope it goes for a 3 dayer next time.

Why is it brilliant?

I just heard on the news there now how the Council workers in Athlone refused a plea ignore the strike to help locals facing severe flooding.

How could you ever look your neighbour in the eye after doing that?

It must be wild hard for shop workers in Dublin, Drogheda and Dundalk watching these people driving past and putting them out of work. I'd say it makes it all the harder to take when they know that the shop workers taxes help pay the public service pay bill.

Could you not just cook them frozen like fish fingers? Stick them under the grill or throw them on the pan as they are and Bob's your mother's brother!
