How come Killoe are favourites?

*kicks seafoid on the shins under the table*

Reputation.

Colmcille 3-14 Killashee 2-8

Colmcille make it through to the quarter-finals.
But they didnt win last year. So I was wondering. Did Mullinalaghta ambush them last year or do they really have the pedigree to get to a Leinster semifinal?

The bookies obviously view things in a particular way. Last year was not an ambush.
So is 7/4 a good price ?

*diplomatic silence*

I think the other bookies have longer odds on Mullinalaghta. Killoe have a larger base and a deeper bench.

Dromard, if they get past Longford Slashers next weekend and then get a good draw, might be awkward.
Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

All the bookies seem to run groupthink

Final round of group matches this weekend:

Group 1:

Killoe v Mullinalaghta, Fri 8pm, Monaduff
Longford Slashers v Dromard, Sat 5.30pm, Newtownforbes

Mullinalaghta 4pts, +12
Killoe 3pts, +5
Longford Slashers 1pt, -11
Dromard 0pts, -6

Killoe v Mullinalaghta is a case of deciding who gets to win the group and be put at one end of the draw. Dromard may be too cute for Slashers.

Group 2:

Clonguish v Abbeylara, Sun 7pm, Ballinalee
Carrickedmond v Mostrim, Sun 7pm, Ardagh

Abbeylara 4pts, +14
Clonguish 2pts, +3
Mostrim 2pts, -3
Carrickedmond 0pts, -14

Mostrim should wrap up the qualification question by being too strong for Carrickedmond. Abbey may have the added confidence to get one over Clonguish.

Group 3:

Killashee v Fr Manning Gaels, Sat 7pm, Cloonbonny
Ballymahon v Colmcille, Sat 7pm, Newtownforbes

Colmcille 6pts, +14
Ballymahon 5pts, +15
Fr Manning Gaels 3pts +5
Granard 2pts, -16
Killashee 0pts, -18

Colmcille and FMG should both win - the only question is whether Drumlish can close the score difference gap on Ballymahon.

So the bookies were dealing in fake news. Sad!!

J. K. Galbraith:"The conventional wisdom"gives way not so much to new ideas as to "the massive onslaught of circumstances with which it cannot contend".

Relegation play-off:

Granard 2-18 Fr Manning Gaels 1-10

So after 42 years at Senior, four Connolly Cups (including a three-in-a-row), and a one-point loss in a Leinster semi-final, Drumlish drop down to Intermediate for 2018.

Mullinalaghta 2-8 Killoe 0-14

Narrow escape for us with a goal to draw in stoppage time and a Killoe kick hitting the wrong side of the upright in the last seconds.

Clonguish 1-14 Dromard 0-15

Dromard will be aggrieved with refereeing that saw them reduced to 14 men for 35 minutes and their entire management team sent to the stand.

Funnily enough, Killoe's odds drift out and Mullinalaghta's odds drift in after a quarter final that most people on the ground expected Mullinalaghta to win. Clonguish must fancy their chances of taking a team that will be playing three games in three weeks on the hop in the semi-final.

Not sure why Clonguish are drifting out. They haven't played Mullinalaghta this year but ran them close in last year's Leader Cup final (arguably should have beaten them except for the referee) and have beaten Abbeylara on the other side of the draw.

That Mullinalaghta team will be talked about 50 years from now . Such a team is a very rare pearl in such a small parish.
