To you American football devotees, Art Modell has died.  He was the much-vilified one-time owner of the Cleveland Browns and later owner of the Super Bowl-Champion Baltimore Ravens.  He did much to bring the NFL to TV and spear-headed Monday Night Football, but was never inducted into the Hall of Fame after moving the Cleveland football franchise to Baltimore.  This Sunday, the Browns play the Eagles, and I bet if a minute of silence is requested, it will be greeted with a chorus of jeers.  For all his great works of charity, Art Modell will always be demonised in Cleveland as a figure more traitorous than even LeBron James.

Saddened to hear this, this morning. I met Terry in Birmingham, once back in 1995. A genuinely nice man, who took time out to chat to me for a long time. Talked about all the animals he saw and about them. Showed me his finger, of which half was missing. Told me all about that too.

RIP Terry.
