Hi lads, been a while!  Hope you are all well.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with changing the car over from northern reg to southern reg?

I currently have a temporary exemption from VRT (customs came to the door, didn't realise I needed it) as I was a student; runs out at the end of the month.  Started a job in Cork but it's only a 12 month contract...they will hardly give me another exemption for 10 months as I am working here would they?

So basically I was wondering if anybody has been in this situation and can help me out, there are that many forms and leaflets on the Revenue website I'm getting confused.  Do I still need to apply for transfer of residence even though I have the temporary exemption?

Thanks in advance!

General discussion / Re: cork city

Near the city centre there is the River Lee hotel (used to be Jurys), handy spot for getting in and out of town.  Plenty of B&B's along Western Rd too.  Further out would be Rochestown Park, Midleton Park Hotel, Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig.  For the craic, try Reardens on Washington St or have a dander around the place and see if you see anywhere you like yourself, city centre is quite contained and easy enough to get around!  Enjoy!  :)

General discussion / Anybody good at maths??
April 27, 2009, 05:21:08 PM
Ok it is chemistry based but it is analytical so I'm hoping someone who is good at maths can help me out...I have a sample answer for it but I don't know where the figures are coming from...

This is the question:
1g of a sample of iron ore was dissolved in H2SO4 in a titration vessel yielding Fe2+. This solution was titrated using 0.1M KMnO4.

The analysis was repeated five times with the following titration volumes:
5.0, 4.8, 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3ml.

Calculate the average iron ore content in the ore as a mass percentage.

Aw(Fe) = 55.84 gmol-1

Then basically it works out as
MnO4- : Fe2+
1:5

then it has written down
5n (MnO4-) = n Fe2+

Ans x(%)Fe = 2.794 ml V  KMnO4

How do you work out the 2.794 part?????

Anyone else been having problems with Meteor lately??  People aren't getting my messages until ages after I send them and one day last week I got like 10 messages through from 6 days beforehand...and the signal is fine so it's not that.  Also I just noticed they have increased the price of texts to the north from 15c to 25c.

Time to go back to O2 maybe?!

General discussion / Electricity Prices
January 28, 2009, 01:34:25 PM
Ok, so as everyone probably knows by now, I am living in student accommodation, so we have a utility advance of €400 or something paid up front.

Got a statement of out electricity costs from start of September to middle of December, for a 4 person apartment it was €640, so breaks down to €160 per person...this seems really expensive to me, went in to query it today because we turn lights and TV's off, unplug chargers etc, very environmentally friendly (apart from the annoying housemate we always have to turn lights off after him).  The only thing that I can think of that would push the electricity up would be the heaters because they are electric, and perhaps the dishwasher?

Anyway went into her and she was like electric has gone up 17.5% and it said on the statement the Nov/Dec reading was only an estimate and I said can you not go down and do a meter reading and she said oh well there will be another statement in February we can give you an actual reading then.

So, point of the thread is, are we being overcharged?

Ok, we live in a privately owned apartment complex, 3 of us know each other and lived together last year, and we are in 3rd year but a 1st year has been put in with us.  He is really immature, leaves his stuff at his ass and expects us to clean up after him.  He had a group of his mates over there tonight, we had a cleaning rota written up and they wrote all over it, left the place in an absolute mess and our front door isn't closing right so we had put a wee note up saying please shut door tightly or something along those lines and they ripped it off and started shouting how 'gay' it was.

What is the best way to handle this???
