Kieran Donaghy is understood to have been cleared to play for Kerry in their NFL clash with Cork tomorrow night.

He was originally handed a two-week ban for two yellow card offences in last weeks clash against Mayo.

The suspension, which he was given because it was his second such infraction within a 48-week period, was described as "extremely harsh" by the Kerry County Board.

Im glad for him. I was at the match and he did not deserve to get sent off. Trevour Mortimor didnt deserve his two yellows either. The referee was terrible to say the least.

Yellow cards can't be overturned though, even if you get two of them. And all the refs this year seem to be giving them out for very little.

Very strange.

The Kerry representative had no idea what the grounds were for the overturning of the suspension.

I haven't heard how or why Donaghy got his suspension lifted, maybe Frank Murphy was helping out his neighbours in how to get a suspension dropped and if anyone knows its the bould Frank.

Kerry line up the same in numbers 1 to 9 from last weeks game with Mayo but only Bryan Sheehan holds onto a jersey in the forwards albeit with a different number.

Donnacha Walsh comes into wing forward after impressing last weekend and Tommy Griffin is on the other wing after also  showing a bit of hunger against Mayo.

In the absense of the Dr Crokes players who are club tied, Eamonn Fitzmaurice starts again at centre forward and Mike Frank Russell start in the corner instead of Gooch. Both making their first outing of the year. Fitzmaurice was tried there during the full run of the league to limited success but once championship came around he was struggling to make the team. Does not however look like a scoring half forward line, a lot of grunt and toil and hopefully that will create the space and ball into MFR and Quill.

Declan Quill starts in the other corner while Bryan Sheehan takes over full forward instead of Mike Quirke. Paddy Kelly and Sean O'Sullivan also dropping to the subs.

Cork too have a strong lineout and it will be a challanging game tomorrow night, Games between the Kingdom and the Langers always gets the blood boiling even on a cold February night. Hopefully we will see an improvement in refereeing over what was seen last weekend otherwise this local derby could end up 12 a side.

The Langers will still be hurting over last years semi final while Kerry and Donaghy in particular will have a point to prove over last years Munster final.

Cork recent run of games in the McGrath cup should probably see them more match fit but Kerry were not far away from Mayo last week and did finish the stronger of the 2 teams.

Hard to call how tomorrw will go but with both teams looking at a second successive defeat , I think Kerry might up their performance and take the 2 points. A lot will depend on how we deal with the supply of ball to Masters, If Knees and Star get on top at midfield it will limit the attacking threat of Masters.

Anyway looking forward to it.

Kerry's Kieran Donaghy has been cleared to play in Saturday night's National Football League clash with Cork in Tralee after a successful appeal to the GAA's Central Hearings Committee against a two-week ban.

The Austin Stack's clubman was issued the suspension after being sent off following two yellow cards on two separate occassions within a 48-week period.

"The Committee, having viewed video of the incident and having received clarification from the referee, decided that the player was not guilty of the infraction as reported," read a GAA statement.

Donaghy was present at the CHC meeting on Thursday night and has been named at midfield in Kingdom manager Pat O'Shea's team to play the Rebel County at Austin Stack Park.

The game will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports Ireland (throw-in 7.30pm).

Meanwhile, Kilalla's Noel Ryan, who was sent off in the All-Ireland Junior Club quarter final against Fulham Irish on 13 January, also came before the Committee.

Ryan had been offered the minimum suspension by the Central Control Committee, and the HC, based on video evidence, decided that he was guilty of a lesser infraction and was cleared.

Good result for us on Saturday night in Tralee, 0-11 to 2-02.

Did not make it down as planned but caught the second half on the box and the hightlights last night. Seemed to be a fair crowd in the stand but given the rain there was probably no one on the open railway side of the pitch.

Declan Qulll scored 6 and Bryan Sheehan scored 5 in a poor qulaity match played in very bad conditions.

Kerry led 5-0 after about 20 mins before Cork came back into the game with a fine goal before the half time break.

Kerry however were well on top in the second half and only for a 2nd goal by a mistake by a dropped ball by Darragh O'Se the scores would have been wider.

Though Cork only scored 2 points in the whole game they had about 12 wides as well so Kerry were probably lucky enough to take the points given that Diarmuid Murphy had to make a fine save for us at the end.

Still 2 points on the board and Cork looking in trouble for the drop.

BTW the Kerry GAA Site seems to be back after its 5 month absence.

The last 3 games look tough with 2 difficult away games, but thats a good run-in to the championship if we dont make the league play off's. Saying that though, away to Fermanagh in the next round will be no easy game.
