Just seen a small piece on Nationwide on RTE about Gael Londáin CLG and London Irish RFC. Full credit to London Irish Rugby for letting Gaelic in over the Summer! Has to be one of the heart warming partnerships between the two different Codes.

Well done to all!

Connacht final 1997 Mayo v Sligo! Referee gives one minute extra time! Sligo had us on the rack. Would have lost if the proper injury time was given.

General discussion / Irish Hockey

Just watching our Girls on the TV playing India in the World Cup QF.

Anyway, my girl who play Camoige asks me ''What game is that?''

''Hockey'' I tell her!

To which she reply's ''It's looks like it's (Hockey) to Soccer what Hurling is to Gaelic football!''

What can the GAA do to resurrect an interest in Intercounty Football?
#26
Well as far as the league is concerned, that's that! Time to start talking about more serious stuff!

Was just thinking there about various factors (outside of training and practicing a lot) that help a Player develop into a great player.

Being the youngest in a family of lads who plays football - Cillian and Diarmuid O'Coonor, Michael Meehan and Colin Cooper come to mind.

Being given the role as free taker from an early age.

Having pull. If you come from a strong GAA family, your dad is the coach, etc. You'll get more chances to shine.

If you play for a good club with good players.

Learning from Players in your club that have played at the highest level.

Good coach(es) in your club.

GAA Discussion / Thank God it was not a draw!
September 18, 2017, 12:23:26 AM
Gas, as we (the poor downtrodden Mayo fans) left Croke Park. The overwhelming feeling was 'Thank God it wasn't a draw'. The Financial as well as the emotional cost was just to much and most were happy it was done and dusted. Who wants to spend more money on Petrol, Food and €80 (cos the GAA of the people don't reduce the price for replays in Football). If there was one small thing that made me happy it was that them greedy corporational whores missed out on screwing us one last time. Small mercies!   ;D

GAA Discussion / Clare v Mayo Round 3A Qualifier
July 03, 2017, 09:19:03 AM
From a distance looks a decent draw. But Clare were the only team on this side of the draw to impress in the last round. Also away in Ennis will be no fun. This was/is always going to be the toughest fixture with the short turnaround.

I don't understand why we have to wait 4 extra evening starved weeks for the Hour change.?As well as energy savings, there is also the opportunity for kids and Adults to get out in the evening and for Clubs to get back to outdoor activities.

If you look at Sunrise and Sunset for the 26th of February it is perfectly set for the hour change! So why wait another 4 weeks?

Well Aido is out with an ankle injury from Basketball.

Lee will be devoting his time to Westport for the moment.

Mayo are 4/9 Monaghan 9/4 and Draw 15/2.

Hard to know if Mayo will be happy to just retain League status or have a go at winning.

Dublin are so strong, it's hard to see Mayo putting the push on to win a League title they would get no credit for.

Clarke hoping to sign for New York Red Bulls
[/b]

Former Armagh ace Jamie Clarke is keeping himself fit on his travels by training with Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls.

The 27-year-old Crossmaglen star is rubbing shoulders with the likes of former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and The Irish News reports that he hopes to earn a contract with the club where French icon Thierry Henry finished his playing career.

The talented all-rounder has also been playing for Longford GAA club in New York and it is understood he will find out in November if he has a future with the MLS side.

You know the GAA is in decline when they charge for young kids into games. I know people who have stopped bringing kids!
You know the GAA is in decline when you get games where no one kicks the ball.
You know the GAA is in decline when pundits determine rule changes.
You know the GAA is in decline when pundits with personal issues with Managers gets a outlet to abuse that power
You know the GAA is in decline when Players and Managers stop giving interviews
You know the GAA is in decline when ask amateur players to go out 3 weeks in a row to fulfill fixtures
You know the GAA is in decline when you don't have a clue between a Black, Red or Yellow Card
You know the GAA is in decline when the most exciting part of the Leinster final is a Streaker
You know the GAA is in decline when Sky forces people to go to the Pub to see a match
You know the GAA is in decline when Referees become to afraid make big decisions
You know the GAA is in decline when Red Card suspensions don't stand up because of Solicitors

Any one got any more?

Well who would you want next? On paper Kildare look the easier draw. Cork away would be a stinker and could be the end of us.
#36
So it looks like we are out next Saturday week July 09, 2016?

From reading here and there we are in the B side of the draw. Which includes the winner of games next weekend Saturday, June 25.

Offaly v London
Antrim v Limerick
Down v Longford
Wexford  v Fermanagh

From a quick look down the line and looking to see who we would meet in the Quarters (if we are lucky enough to get there) We would play the Ulster Champions or the Leinster Champions!

Any disagreements with this?

Why is the hour not changed back earlier? Like February 28th or March 6th? Why do we have to wait until March 27? God knows we have a long enough dark winter without prolonging it. I'm sure it would benefit Sporting organisations without floodlights, help part time farmers, etc

Why don't they do it earlier?
#38
There are a lot of players out there who are not really bad guys, but get up your nose. For some reason, you just don't like them.
Kerry's James O'Donoghue! Really annoys me. Hate the smirk on his face. Donnacha Walsh another.

(This is not an anti Kerry Rant!)

Look we don't really have a hope in Eurovision, no matter who we send, Do we? So is it better to just ignore the annual gig and send nobody? Should we look to the old formulas that did the business in the past? Personally I think that we have disrespected the competition for the last 20(ish) years sending moderate to poor songs and performers. And then complaining about block voting. If the Song is good enough it will get votes.

Where did this Nicky Byrne idea come from? Seems like a bit of a quango for a new boys club in RTE.

Looking forward to seeing how Mayo and Connacht champions Ardnaree get on in this competition. Monaghan champions Rockcorry are the Ulster representatives. Pat Spillane's Club Templenoe cruised to a junior Munster title. St Brigid's Killashee are in action against Curraha (Meath) in the Leinster Club Junior Football Championship Final.

Is there any dates/venues set for semi final games? Anyone know who is representing the UK?
